Red Panda (http://www.myspace.com/redpandamusic), the side project of Home Grown (http://www.homegrownonline.com) guitarist John Tran, has posted two new songs titled "Stay the Night" and "Hospitals" on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/redpandamusic). A full album worth of songs (all funded by Mr. Tran himself) is expected by late summer.

Barely Survived is by far the best song out of all of Red panda stuff I have heard, i like RP but miss Home Grown alot, HG's songs had more attitude. Barely Survived is GOLD.

not many people know this but j tran is a great all around musician, including being very very good on drums.. check out 'she don't care' off the connections split with home grown/limbeck...this was after bob had his tumor and before darren came in. john did drums/1 guitar, adam did bass, justin did guitar/vox

but why does homegrown never do anything anymore?

I'm not sure, they were writting a new album, then Adam left the band, they said they were going to continue on with John singing, but the band hasn't done anything, except play a couple of scattered shows in Cali, over the past half year or so.

I've pretty much heard they broke up but its not confirmed. I do know that they were all working full time but i think there might be hope for a home grown down the road but not with Adam.

Let's start off by introducing yourself...

My name is John Tom Tran. I am also known as Johnee
Trash, J.Tran, Johnny Tran, and Slant Eye Gookface. I
sing, play guitar, and cowrote songs for Home Grown.
And for the record, I am not speaking for everyone
else in the band(Darren and Dan)

How are things between 'Homegrown'?

Hmmm...where do we start here? Well, as of now, Home
Grown is on a creative hiatus and also on a break for
the holidays. It's been quite an eventful turning
point of a year for all of us.

When and why did Adam decide to leave the band?

Adam quit Home Grown 5 days before our European tour
with New Found Glory/Hot Water Music/The Explosion
Tour which is(let me do my math) February 7, 2005. His
reasons for leaving was that his heart wasn't in Home
Grown anymore and he wanted a "fresh start" which was
understood by the rest of us and we wish him the best
and good luck.

Do you regret the way things were handled?

I wouldn't say I regret it since it wasn't me making
that decision. Things happen for a reason and since
Adam and I are completely different people, I would
have handled things in much of a different manner. I
was really excited to record the new album and we were
in the midst of finalizing our renegotiated contract
with DTR but because of his sudden departure, all I
can say is that now things are much different and
beyond our control. It's just the irony of the music
industry which I have grown to hate but still somehow
love.

Jason Tate of AbsolutePunk want's to know when/where
the Red Panda CD will be released and that he loves
you.

Tell Jason Tate I said "Thank You" and that Red Panda
isn't something I want to pursue as a musical career
as I did with Home Grown. It's more for myself and
whoever is interested in what I write and if he(or
anyone else) wants the actual demos, I will send
him/her via MP3 through IM. IM me at SirJohnee. If I
don't respond, then that's because I'm either at work,
busy, or away.

How did you feel about Halifax being on Mtv's Real
World?

Umm cool I guess. I don't watch TV and if I did, I
wouldn't support MTV because they banned the video for
"Kiss Me, Diss Me" because they said it was too
degrading to women. Ummm...have they not been paying
attention to all the violence and smoke and girls in
bootie shorts in RAP VIDEOS???

What have you been listening to lately?

I've been listening to a lot of Several Arrows Later
by Matt Pond PA. That motherfucker puts out the
greatest albums every year. I thoroughly enjoy the new
Broken Social Scene, too. I also listen to a lot of
European bands like Zoot Woman, Phoenix, Mew, Sondre
Lerche, etc.

Have things between Homegrown changed your outlook
on life etc.?

Considering the fact that I've been doing Home Grown
for over 11 years and started when I was 18, it's
definately had a serious makeover on my perception
with life such as music, people, business, and
culture. I wouldn't change anything that has happened
to me...well...maybe for world peace and a different
threesome every night.

What are your plans for the future?

The only plans I have in my life now are:
1. Making myself, my family, and my friends happy.
2. Keep music a main priority whether if it's writing,
playing, jamming, listening, watching, and supporting
bands I love for the sake of enjoyment of music and
not for a fast profit or that fame bullshit.
3. Get married.
4. Have kids.
5. What else is there? Oh yeah...world peace and
different threesomes every night(before marriage,
duh).

Any last words?

Like I said before, I am not speaking for Home Grown.
Everything that I have said in this interview is
purely from my own eyes, ears, and mind so if anyone
who is biased feels indifferent to what I have
said...then ummm...LICK MY BALLS?

Thank you Ben and AP.net for this interview.

Here are my wishes in order. 1. Homegrown reforms with Adam. 2. Homegrown reforms without Adam. 3.Red Randa releases a cd and decides to tour. 4. Homegrown releases a cd/dvd of unreleased rare stuff. Homegrown rules I have listened to them for years. Please try to fit a a tour in your schedules, and release some new material, kings of pop was a great cd, and I was anticipating the next release to top that! GO HOMEGROWN!

I honestly can't see Tran leading homegrown. It just doesn't suit him at all.
