Thank God. Justice is finally done...Roy gets 1st team where he belongs and Gay is on 2nd (I think maybe he should have even been 3rd). Thoughts? Snubs? Overrated?
First team:
• Adam Morrison, Gonzaga, junior
• J.J. Redick, Duke, senior
• Randy Foye, Villanova, senior
• Shelden Williams, Duke, senior
• Brandon Roy, Washington, senior
Second team:
• Dee Brown, Illinois, senior
• Rodney Carney, Memphis, senior
• Rudy Gay, Connecticut, sophomore
• P.J. Tucker, Texas, junior
• Leon Powe, California, sophomore
Third team:
• Craig Smith, Boston College, senior
• Glen Davis, LSU, sophomore
• Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina, freshman
• Nick Fazekas, Nevada, junior
• Allan Ray, Villanova, senior

heres the same thing i posted in the ncaa thread about Gay being on 2nd team when some were saying he should be on 3rd:
Gay deserves 2nd team. He led UConn in scoring and was one the most balanced players in the country. He was the only player in the country to average 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest. Rudy's massive potential overshadowed the year that he had. He still had a very solid year and could have potentially had better numbers if UConn had not been so balanced. Out of all the all-american lists i have seen, Rudy Gay has been second team on each of them, except for one voted on by coaches where he was 1st team.

That "only player to have this" statistic is so dumb, it's obvious that it's manipulated to give him more credit than he deserves. Only player to have 2 assists? It's 2 assists! That's not impressive! 1.5 steals? Alright. The blocks are good, but the overall numbers just aren't that impressive and the fact that they have to use 2 assists and 1.5 steals as benchmarks show that it's something the media came up with to defend his overall game. Great talent? Yes. Horrible attitude and unflinching laziness? Yes.

His actual numbers are higher than those, its like 2.4 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.7 blocks; but i see your point. I wouldnt say that he has a horrible attitude or that he is lazy. He is reluctant to be the center of attention and the star of a team. For the majority of the season he did not need to be the star of the team becuase of all the other talent that was around him. He is only 19 (he turned 19 like a month before the season started) so theres plenty of time for him to mature and take on the role that many people believe he can play.

But I look to another kid who is in his class, LeBron, and I see the difference. They are both freakishly athletic, and can be downright unstoppable, but LeBron is putting up near 30 a game while Rudy seems reluctant to even put up half that

Too bad it'll be in the NBA. The guy is unproven and he's been so unmotivated in many games I've watched him where he's just coasted.

A great comparison to Rudy Gay (at least in college) is Charile Villanueva. People were saying the same things about Charlie while he was at UConn, in fact i think that people were even harder on him, and look what hes doing in the NBA.
Just because i was curious i decided to compare Rudy's numbers this year with other players when the were sophomores:
Rudy Gay: 15.2 pts, 6.4 reb, 2.1 asts, 30.8 min
Brandon Roy: 12.9 pts, 5.3 rebs, 3.3 asts, 30.3 min
Adam Morrison: 19 pts, 5.5 reb, 2.8 asts, 34.2 min
JJ Redick : 15.9 pts, 3.1 reb, 1.6 asts, 31.1 min
Basically all 4 of them had comparable sophomore years. This just goes with what i have been saying, Rudy had a good year but it was overshadowed by not living up to the enormous potential he has and the expectations of the media.

totally agreed with your statment up there about the stats. i hate stats like that. 'after 48 games, when down by 12 at the half, with one nut hanging out of his shorts' blah blah blah.
im not calling it overrated, but i am surprised dee made second team. he cost us a few games this year, and sometimes didnt always show up. but ill take what we get. im at least hoping he can crack and nba roster. but im not holding my breath.

Dude, its unfair to compare Rudy and LeBron. LeBron is on different level then pretty much everyone.

if he's not living up to his potential in college, why would he in the nba? rudy gay's overrated and wont amount to more than a bench or role player in the leauge.

Because people develop at different rates and he's only 19! Plenty of time to develop and become a better player. Villanueva wasnt living up to his potential in college either, and look how hes doing in the NBA

i was just gunna say the villanueva thing, that all three draft day commentators were saying how lazy and unmotivated he was and if people keep saying the same thing about gay, who knows, maybe he'll play with spite and go out there just to prove people wrong. I do agree with all the talk of him being lazy and whatnot though, theres no way around that. I guess we'll just have to see how he does, but i dont think itll be nearly as well as people originally predicted it. The comparison on nbadraft.net to scottie pippen is definitely not the case

first off, i cant believe you're comparing him to charlie v. chuck is taller and has more muscle to him. he would bitch slap rudy gay. charlie was a better shooter, a better rebounder, a better shot blocker, basically a better all around player.
charlie's putting up the same numbers he did in college, in the nba. he plays for the raptors. he's getting playing time. now, i love charlie because he's helped my fantasy at times throughout the season. and he's hurt it as well. you must only watch the big games, and not see the games where he has 4 points and 2 rebounds. or doenst score at all.
ill say it now. rudy gay will be a bust among nba standards.

i will give nbadraft.net the props they deserve, most of the time they pick the lottery picks right, only missing one or two. but their comparisons are funny.
a few i remember are maciej lampje or whatever was compared to dirk. josh childress to reggie miller. rafael arajuo to brad miller. theres more, but just a few i remember.
if history plays right, if they're comparing him to scottie pippen, im comparing him to ron mercer.

Yeah, looking at his stat line I would agree, but I think the fact it's a WAC v Big East league difference is what determined it.
I'd love Fazekas to stay around for this next year...unless they play KU again, then he has to leave.

which of the three teams would win in a game over the others? i actually think the third team would do well. yeah, they have a dominant inside game...on par with the second team's.
But, you gotta believe that a JJ/Morrison shooting combo, with Roy and Foye there to add to it...just too sicko.
I mean, the weak point of the first team would be Shelden Williams...
Good fucking question though...it got me thinking that their should be a college all-star game where they do just this...put the best players against each other in a game.

That's so much bullshit, no offense. None of those players made All-American 1st or 2nd teams when they were sophomores, but Gay did....potential does not equal performance in college, and that's my beef with it.

i think craig smith got screwed a little bit just because he deserved 2nd team over Gay ..the other 4 guys I can't argue with, except maybe Tucker. The numbers were pretty similar. First team looks perfect.

I compared them because I watched them both play their 2 years at UConn and watched them receive the same hype/criticism from the media, they were both said to not be reaching their potential. I think they were very similar players on college. Theyre were games that Charlie was non-existant also. They had virtually identical stats theyre sophomore year, the only differences being Rudy having 3 more ppg and Charlie having 2 more rpg. People were wrong about Villanueva in the NBA so far, there's the possibility that the same could be true with Rudy.
