I do like Augustana, but I can't listen to either of their albums all the way through. They both have some really awesome songs, but it seems like there's a lot of filler, too.

Boston was so much better than any of the other stuff I've heard.
Sweet And Low wasn't good at all IMO.

Yes, great song. I would argue that the two ballads (Fire and Twenty Years) are the two best on that album.

I aint even know. I really thought All The Stars and Boulevards was their first. How good is that album? And does it sound more like their second album or their third? Because I found their third to be a lot softer and his vocal delivery to be more smooth, which I didn't like as much as his rougher sounding vocals on stars and boulevards. Maybe Can't Love, Can't Hurt was a return to their original sound?

I'd be pretty sure that the vocals will be the rougher style like on All the Stars because I believe the reason for the change was Dan getting vocal lessons between All the Stars and Can't Love, Can't Hurt.

I love Augustana. Can't Love, Can't Hurt was one of my top albums released last year. They're also really nice guys too, at least the time I met them. I got to meet them at a radio thing, and then saw them after the show that night and John even remembered my name.
My fave tracks from CL,CH are Hey Now, Fire, and Twenty Years. Although the whole album is pretty solid. I also like the B-side Reasons. It sounds amazing live with their harmonizing.

Don't feel guilty, dude. They write really sturdy, traditionally structured pop songs with full-bodied arrangements. There's almost nobody doing this kind of music this well anymore. Someone has to carry on the tradition.

I first heard them when I saw them open for Maroon 5 and the Counting Crows. Truthfully, they didn't stick out a whole lot then. But later I bought "Boston" on iTunes, and I still have it on my iPod. So, I'm not a huge fan, just a casual listener.

Remember "," Augustana's breakout 2003/2005 hit? Well, Augustana wants you to forget it. The song was more than a little of The Fray, given a San Diego twist by the pop-rock fivesome (I wonder if they'd ever even been to Boston?), and it was one of early-'00s pop-rock's dying groans -- but a sweet singalong one nevertheless. Now, Augustana must be sick of being critically murdered for their "pop" status -- especially since all it got them was a #34 hit. So their fourth release is filtered towards roots rock...so much so that it rips off Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" ("Wrong Side Of Love") and everything Bon Jovi ("Shot In The Dark"), without so much as a memorable chorus to brag about. Lead single "Steal Your Heart" is equally as directionless, imitating the classic rock stars that Augustana no doubt idolize, but portraying bluntly the band's inability to escape their easy-listening tendencies. No matter how much guitar or how much twang they attempt, they're still just an imitation of the good stuff.

I'm starting to think that Sunday Best from All the Stars and Boulevards might be their best song.
