Coming from a yankees fan right?

There should still be a salary cap.

Great article, that guy did some serious research. Some of his statistics were so dense that i was a little confused with them but the article definitely made some awesome points

I agree.

I'd like to see a cap...if for nothing else to limit the ridiculous salary wars that happen, but I really don't think the cap hurts that much if you can get good players young.

Me being a yankee fan has nothing to do with this. I honestly would have no problem with a salary cap, because my seats would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Basically what i've been saying. smart teams will find a way to win or be competitive not matter the situation. The Red Sox cut payroll this year and look to be better than 05. The A's have a young team, but will win the West. The Braves played a shit load of rookies last year and still won.

good idea for an article, not so good execution. numbers like that make readers glaze over.

Economically speaking, he's half right and half wrong about his analysis of baseball's competitive balance. It's moving in the right direction, but it still isn't something to write home about (or a dismissive article about).

I dont think the large gap between the top and the bottom have much to do with competitive balance though. I mean, ya, teams like Kansas City and Cincy have trouble retaining players, but if they can make the right trades and develop talent, monetary issues don't become much of a problem.
