I'd been looking for a good album that sampled rain without being one of those Nature Sounds: Relaxing etc. to Fall Asleep To, and now this is quickly becoming my favorite album of this year. Imagine Gas if he made Dub Techno. The bass is really, really deep and all the songs have a pretty steady rhythm throughout, but it's still really chill. It samples rain ("rigning" is the Icelandic word for rain) and other field recordings throughout each song, and the whole album has this really warm vibe. Relaxing without putting you to sleep.

Check it out if you're looking for some good ambient/downtempo stuff.

I just downloaded that, but haven't listened yet. I remember vaguely hearing about it when it was first released and just forgetting about it completely. The same thing almost happened with this album, it's been sitting in my downloads folder for weeks now (some of the stuff in there with it was like a year old!) without me paying attention to it, I'm not sure what made me finally listen to it, but I'm glad I did.

It's definitely worth all the rave reviews it's been getting, anyway.

Also, I figured I'd post this here since no one else is going to care, Kompakt Records (home of Gas and The Field) is celebrating 10 years, and Pitchfork had Michael Mayer do a small mix for them with some nice Ambient & Tech House stuff.
