All the monuments and memorials: Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, FDR, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, The Capitol, White House, etc.

Then go to Five Guys.

if you're into museums, the Smithsonian is a massive lineup of several of the best museums in the nation, and they're all free. though i doubt if you're only gonna be there for a day or two that you will even have time; seeing the monuments and memorials is a day trip in itself. you can also get tours of government buildings if you're curious.

D.C. is a great city if you're looking at going to college there, in addition to loads of tourism stuff it's also a great place for just everyday entertainment. unfortunately everyone at my college (university of maryland) is too lazy to go even though its like a 15 minute subway ride away.

You have to email your representative to go to the White House and the Capitol.

Some suggestions:

Holocaust Museum
The Archives
Air & Space Museum (one in DC and the one near Dulles [?])
Lauren
Embassy Row (it's beautiful)
Shrine of the Unknown Soldier

If you are looking at colleges in the area:

U.MD
George Mason
George Mason
George Mason
Georgetown
American

hahaha at the bolded. As for colleges, I will be looking at George Washington, Georgetown, and American (and on the same trip, St. John's in Annapolis which I'm definitely the most excited about). I'm definitely going to try to make it to the Archives. And when I email my representative, what should I say?

I'm not entirely sure. Don't know the rules behind that.

Also, in case I wasn't clear: George Mason

The campus looks pretty but I dunno. We've only got a few days in DC (the other days are going to be spent with my aunt/uncle in Baltimore and G-ma in New Holland).

Avoid the metro when the nationals are playing at home. Also go to georgetown there is a bunch of stuff there. I'm actually from the suburbs of D.C. so I know that area pretty well. It's very busy and hectic but it can be fun if you go to the right places. Definitely hit up the mci cener if your into sports, thats a great place. And there's a luigi's pizza in downtown D.C. that has the best pizza ever. Don't do a tour of the white house it's a total rip off. But the air and space museum is great as is the natural history museum. A lot of people for some reason, and this is stupid like to see the "exorcist steps" in gtown. If you've ever seen the movie its the stairs the priest falls down. Clarendon bar in Fairfax which is 10 minutes outside of D.C. is good. Try and visit the suburbs if you have time there's a lot of cool stuff there too. Good bars and clubs in gtown

DC: American, Georgetown, maybe George Washington. Maybe I'll take a harder look at George Mason now that saysmydoctor Sean is pushing it. NY: Fredonia, Ithaca. MD: St. John's College. Maybe I'll look into a few Ivy League schools. I really really want to go to an East Coast school. St. John's especially, I'm really excited to see and to experience.

Political science, political theory, economics, public policy, or any combination/deviation of those. Still pretty open as of right now.

Also, as per your advice I will forgo the GW visit and try out George Mason instead.

I'm guessing when you say Fredonia, you mean SUNY Fredonia and I must say if you want to study ANY of that stuff, UAlbany is THE school in the state (publicwise). Here or Buffalo. Public Policy is ranked in the top 10 in the country, I read somewhere.

haha thanks, I really appreciate it. I've got like a 93/94 average, great scores on SAT's/ACT's (still need to take subject tests), a huge course load for next year, and I also skipped a grade a while back so I'm feeling like a pretty good candidate for some pretty good schools. I'm really looking forward to getting out of high school and moving on with my life.

Here's another vote for George Mason. As an alum (2006), I can say that I'm jealous of all the kids that are going to go there in the next few years. That place was under construction for almost the entire time I was there and it looks like the fruits of that labor are about to be released to the public. It's gaining recognition nationally for academics, has a great campus, and is located in an ideal spot (get the suburbs and city right next to each other). Be one of the lucky ones who get to do their undergrad work at this jewel.

At least I got to be there for the final four. That was crazy awesome.

I can't remember how much the White House tour cost it's been so long since i've gone on it. And I definitely didn't notice you were only 16, my bad. But there are still a ton of cool things to do. I still keep in contact with some of my friends and they go there all the time even though there underage there's still a bunch of stuff to do

I don't go down to DC as much as I should considering how close by it is, but there is plenty to do down there. This is repeating what a lot of other people said, but I'd recommend the Newseum, Holocaust Museum (I went there last week), Museum of Natural History, Air and Space Museum, and all the monuments.

I'm very active in music and drama in my school, me and five kids from my school did a community project program with other schools, and I also work at my parents' church doing sound tech work. And I'm in honor society. So I think I'm pretty good. As far as political involvement goes, it would most likely be impossible (if not for the rest of the school year, then at least until February-March) because I don't have my license until the beginning of 2010 at the earliest and the nearest city is an hour away. =/
