What are you taking next year?

Senior

English 4 Honors
Goverment AP/Macroeconomics AP
Bio 2 AP
Anatomy Honors
Spanish 3 (failed it this year!)
Computer Science AP
Art I

To people who have taken Anatomy, I'm trying to decide whether to really take that or not. I'm going to take Bio 2 anyways, so I don't know if its really necessary or just additional work.

I'm taking DGA as filler, since my school doesn't allow you to have off periods as a senior. Also! To people who have taken Anatomy, I'm trying to decide whether to really take that or not. I'm going to take Bio 2 anyways, so I don't know if its really necessary or just additional work.

I loaded up with a lot of credits Junior year so I didn't have to take anything for my Senior Year. Technically, all I really needed to take was an English credit and a Social Studies credit and I would've been done, but because colleges really want 4 years of everything, that's what I'm doing.

My schedule for this year was so loaded, I didn't even have time for a Lunch period. But now next year, I get to arrive in school 2 periods late. It's nice.

Same thing happened with me in high school. I tried taking as many classes up front and senior year rolled around and all I needed was an English credit so I got to take some fun courses because I had room in my schedule. I had a study in an autistic classroom that I was nervous about at first but after working with the kids for a year I almost changed colleges and went into Special Ed.

haha same for me. 3 times a week I only go to school for 3 periods, while the other 2 times I have Dual Credit class in the morning (which is basically 1st period off and 2nd period class at local college)

I'm going to be a junior.

My school has block scheduling, so:

Honors Brit Lit
Honors Chemistry
Honors Pre-Calc (or one of the AP Calc classes, I may take Pre-Calc over the summer)
AP European History
Art 2
Photo 2
Photo 3
Gym
German 4

I feel like i'm forgetting some, but whatever.

Junior year

Math B (part 2)
English Honors 3
Physics
US History (I'm not sure if I qualified for AP yet)
Italian 3
Teaching the Christian Message (part 1)
Health (1st part of year)
Music (2nd part of year)
Java 3

Teaching the Christian Message is way better than taking a regular Religion class. For Junior year they teach you how to teach little kids about Religion and how to make lesson plans and things. Then in Senior year, they give you your own Religion class of 1st to 3rd graders and you have to teach them Religion 2 days out of the week. It's fun and alot easier, plus I get an extra free period.

Yeah, we call it Dual Credit here because it gives you college credit and high school credit. But do you go and take it at a college/junior college? That's what we do here.

Yeah, we call it Dual Credit here because it gives you college credit and high school credit. But do you go and take it at a college/junior college? That's what we do here.

nope, you take it in a normal classroom in your highschool. at the end of your current year your teacher asks if you'd like to pay the money, if you say yeah then you just pay it before the year ends, and then the next year its just like a normal class that you have to keep above a C, to get your moneysworth.

i'm not worried. bio, newspaper/yearbook, and spanish 4 will be easy A's. I'm good in spanish, and the teacher's way easy.

honors english 3 i'll have to work at, but i can get an A in it reeeelatively easy.

ap calc i'll need to work at to get a b in it, though, that'll be tough.

and apush will be tough. the teacher, though, raises your grade for both semesters one letter grade if you pass (so a 3, right?) the AP test.

they are making me REtake a class i had gotten "A's" in last year! they are making me retake Algebra! i was supposed to get put in Geometry. luckly the teacher is going to have my schedule changed :]. also i got put in the stupidest english class also! and i got a's in there also! *mad*
tommorow, im going to see if they can put me in Honors English.

wellz, i'll post my new schedule soon.

*yay!* like they said that they can change my english class (thank god!)
BUT!!! my stupid dumbass algebra teacher from last year, "recomended" almost all of the kids from our class BACK into algebra. w/e. they are goin to change my schedule. so then i'll be put into geomerty w/ my friends.
and WHY dont you guys believe, me?
w/e.
there is soo much proof that hes retard (my old teacher) he put one of my friends (who got straight a's) into SUPPORT ALGEBRA. and they changed her schedule, but she isn't goin to my school.
(*sad*)

heack yes! rotc is going to rock. we are going to go to a lot of air force bases.

wellz, that made my day better by having more people hate me/ say mean thing/ think im starving myself. *sad*

my school is pretty ghetto, and strict. they are making us where our student ids, or else they won't let us in. they are afraid, because of what (alsmost, and thank god didn't happen) at this one school.

I went from a pretty bad public middle school.
one of the worst in the state if im not mistaken.
I was plannign on staying in the district for highschool
had all college prep classes, music theory, and video production.
Then went to a catholic highschool
They placed me according to the shitty public schools records.
I did ..bad.
now i sorta got downgraded in most classes

and Im sorta happy im going to be the only person shameless enough to say how terrible i was and own up. I also would like to say that in my opinion being the only freshman to do battle of the bands almost balenced it out...

our old teacher didn't teach us anything useful. the begining of this year was packing in as much basic german as the new teacher could.
we usually mess around while doing stuff.
next semester we have to talk in german for majority of the time or fail.

Yeah I agree. I go to a pretty big school in Texas, and none of those classes are offered. We have basic core classes, a couple elective classes, and maybe a nursing class here or there. Pharmacy and nursing would have been amazing lol. Boo NYC.

Well we only got the health classes because the city that I live in, challenged our school about why we don't have any higher education prep classes or career development classes, so in response, they hired one nurse who started teaching a nursing class, a pharmacy class, and one health science tech. class. If it wasn't for the city board, we wouldn't even have elective classes. Pretty ridiculous.

I am however pretty suprised that in NYC, those higher health classes aren't offered. I want to go to school in NYC, but I couldn't ever afford out of state tuition, nor the living expenses in NY. I'm jealous.

Colleges are starting to come out and say that it's not going to really matter in college how many AP classes you took in high school, and your overall class ranking and GPA, to an extent, isn't going to fully impact college admission, because of false information and rankings being provided to colleges. So these days, the number one thing colleges are looking for are ACT/SAT scores. Too bad fo the kids who thought they had it made just by high school grades alone.

But, at the same time, I find AP classes useful in ways not just because 'it looks good.' I find regular classes boring, and I'm often not challenged, so I don't pay attention. Either that or I have a fat case of ADD.

So all in all, study the hell out of the SATs/ACTs.

theres hope for me afterall

does anyone know the deal with private or public with colleges
i go to private and have been told be my guidance counsiler, teachers, and college kids that the fact that i go to a private school i have a better chance with college

my public school firends are offended and think i crazy when i bring it up

any word?

No, the AP classes aren't useless. It's just that colleges really don't care. They are looking for the ACT/SAT results as well as your overall application. I find the AP classes useful because they challenge me, and I learn so much more. And it will help you as far as the context of college, but not so much for the admission part.

And as far as the private/public school thing...it just depends on which private school you go to. There are alot of really stiff public schools out there, and most can vouch that they've had a couple of pretty hard teachers in public schools. But they're more prestigious in their teachings, so chances are, it will help in the learning and studying part of college. And if your private school is really well known for its schooling and especially if there are academic requirements for acceptance, it will probably help in the admission part too. So...props to you?

im so glad. this year is the final year that i will be taking spanish. ive taken spanish since 7th grade and i still have only learned 'hola'. i hate learning languages in a class. if they really want me to learn, theyd stick me in a room with a whole bunch of people that speak it and see if i survive. id probably learn more.

I'm currently taking (as a Senior):

1. Global Events (aka World Civ/Studies)
2. Global Culture (aka World Civ/Studies)
3. Physics
4. Algebra II/Trig

Other/Electives-

5. Buddhist Education/Living (we have to take it every year at my school, 'cause were a Buddhist school)
6. Yearbook
7. Public Speaking 2 -- Tues/Thurs
8. Intermediate Digital Media (next semester)
9. Study Hall (which doesn't really count)
10. Student Discipline Council (we have to be in one of the Student Government councils and different each year. There's that one, Academic Affairs, Executive, and Community Service. 9th grade we didn't have this and 10th there was Extracurricular before we traded that out for Community Service and grade level extracurricular activities. I was in that and Academic Affairs already)

We are a VERY small school so the only AP class we have is AP Science and I do not want to do that.

I'm at a brand new school as a junior so all of the really awesome classes aren't going to start up for a few years. And the few good electives we had got cut because of teacher shortages. But I'm taking:

algebra 2
american history honors
ap english language & composition
tv production 1 (stupid, we don't do anything)
drama 3
chemistry

I think it's bs that colleges look at act/sat scores for the most part. It's really unfair. Some students (like me) get good grades and take challenging courses, but don't do well on those exams, because of test anxiety.

if you're bright, it won't really matter in the end.

oh, and that schedule isn't very challenging for a junior in HS

Well like I said, it's a first year school. They're not offering that many honors & ap courses because they don't have enough teachers. It's not my fault.

This is just about what my schedule looks like currently (I'm a sophomore right now). AP US History... it's not extremely horrible. In my class anyways, we just basically take notes all day every day, do an activity every once and a while, watch a video rarely. But if you actually read the textbook like they tell you to, the tests and quizzes aren't too difficult. You can sometimes get by without reading the textbook. If you're up to a little extra work here and there, I'd suggest it.

AP classes almost always depend on the teacher. All of the ones I took in high school were easy and fun because I loved the teachers that I had. I don't know how it is in your school, but in mine the AP exams were mandatory, so when you took the class you were basically going to HAVE to throw down the $80+ (per exam) to take them in May. If the AP US History teacher in your school sucks and you don't think you're going to score well enough on the exam to get credit for college (assuming your school won't let you opt out), I'd say take a regular regents class and save your parents the cash.
