View Full Version : What bands do you like the idea of but not the actual product?

I'll start, I really like the idea of Anal Cunt. Being absolutely vulgar and disgusting is appealing to me because I think that art can be found in vulgar or violent things (Just look at Jean Dubuffet or Cormac Mccarthy's Blood Meridian). The problem is that Anal Cunt sounds absolutely terrible and I don't think anyone can refute that. Although maybe they're just keeping up with the theme.

I like the idea of nevershoutnever.... too bad it evolved to an actual project. Acoustic poppy and sweet is nice, but it's like eating candy, one's fine, but there's an amount that's too sweet, then it goes vulgar and you're vomiting. Add some edge nvrshoutnvr.

I understand. I love GlassJaw, but i can't get into radiohead or wilco. I have tons of respect, and i constantly try to understand the music, but whenever i listen to an album i want more than what they offer.

Angels and Airwaves, although a decent band, definitely fell short of the hype built up by Tom. Blink-182 kills AVA though. Not even a question.

See them live and then you'll understand. Drugs are optional.

In general, I like the idea of positive hardcore or pop punk mixed with hardcore. I consider myself a positive, fun person and appreciate the energy these bands are bringing to music (and the stage, especially), but the only band of this style I can really get into is Four Year Strong.

united nations. i love glassjaw and thursday, but UN did nothing for me.
go radio, the band by a former singer of mayday parade. his voice cannot carry a project on it's own, and everything gets redundant fast.

i agree with posts about nevershoutnever, animal collective, and forgive durden's razia's shadow. i tried SO HARD to like and/or love Razia's Shadow, but couldn't do it. i like a couple songs, but that's it.

I See Stars is the only hardcore/electonic band I loke. Theyr're pretty good.

Manchester Orchestra. I can't understand what the hell is so special.

I only like a couple MO and Brand New songs. Other than that, they're boring. I still think Brand New's best song is Sic Transit Gloria.

Angels & Airwaves. Excellent band name, and I like the idea of trying to incorporate film and the internet into the band. What looked like a great band on paper just didn't work (at least thus far, and I doubt they'll get much better).

judging from the bands you've listed in your profile, it doesn't surprise me, not saying you have bad taste, just appears your more into punk/pop punk/hardcore, just generally fast music, coheed is basically straight rock, you may like there first album Second stage turbine blade, but one of the reasons they are one of my all time favs is because of there ability to mature and grow as musicians

I could do without the PTV singer, but personally, IMO, anything with jonny craig is golden, and craig owens fits in nicely in the music, I'm pumped for the actual EP to come out so I can stop rockin the demos
