The greatest thing ever is his song "21 Concepts" where he actually takes a shot at Jay-Z.

"If you're still listening to Jay-Z, well I feel bad for you son"

Yeah dude, insult someone who has 20 times more talent than you ever will. Great.

I don't completely hate the song with the Piebald sample, but probably just because of the Piebald sample. The rest is trash.

Who the hell is MC Lars and what the fuck is nerdcore... like we need another musical genre with core as a suffix.

I don't remember what he sounds like, but I remember not liking him when I was 12 or 13, and I listened to awful music at that age so I can't imagine how bad it is.

If you suck as bad as that (I'll take both your words for it, neither of you ahve vulgar taste in music) why make fun of Jay-Z. We'll just subsequently make fun of you for that.

i agree. i went to see him twice now. it was fun but i think people take him way to seriously. like i would put him in the same category as weird al (he had him on his latest record). with that said.... his new record i found very annoying and not funny at all.

I enjoy him. I don't listen to him on the regular basis but I will go on a random listening kick of his about once a year. He does his thing and he has fun while doing it. If you don't like his thing, no need to trash him. If you don't like his genre, then you shouldn't be listening to him in the first place. Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock, Signing Emo, Space Game, and Hipster Girl are all funny and clever songs in my opinion.

MC Lars was in a punk band. He's a smart dude with smart lyrics. Cheesy beats, but pretty fun songs. I give him a "like." He toured with some pretty big bands The Matches, Bayside, Say Anything... just a few. So obviously he possesses some skill that someone notices.

MC Lars deftly mixes the punk aesthetic with intelligent lyrics and catchy riffs often with a bit of humor. He is just as relevant now as he was when *insert name of random angry tween* saw him back in the day. I have seen thousands of musicians in concert and he is one of the few that consistently puts on high energy, charismatic stage shows which get better every year. If you don't feel he is as good as when you had your Mommy take you to see him back when you were twelve then it is your tastes that have changed because his act has done nothing but improve. Whether you have seen him in your home town or not he has been touring steadily. This past March I was assigned to photograph one of his concerts at SXSW music festival in Austin Texas and he put on a great show to a packed house.

If he isn't to your tastes then that is your business but he certainly has maintained popularity.

I really like MC Lars. Sorry.
He can be hit and miss but some of the songs are great and a breath of fresh air in a grumpy world. Oh, and the Jay Z reference is actually having a go at his own writers block and having to rely on copying another song....but I guess you didn't hear it.

I kind of like him. He doesn't have a lot of flow. Kind of takes away from his music. But some of his lyrics are moderately intelligent, if you look some of the songs up. Although, I'm pretty sure his really early stuff is all trash, ha.

I joined JUST to say this -- You're from bum-fuck Illinois, you're single, with a sub-par level of grammatical skills and you've managed to obtain over 21,000 posts on this forum... BUT Lars, who has obtained sales of over 21,000 RECORDS independently, maintains a lifestyle in Cali living off his music, and tours the world every year is the untalented loser.. and not you?

I think you need to re-evaluate your life, once you actually get one.

Real talk.

yeah, he is. I don't try to be overly clever and try to market off being a "white boy rapper" and making purposely geeky music. The guy can't sing, he writes shit lyrics, and his fucking parents come to Coachella to take promo pictures and run his merch? Getting a spot on a festival like that is big for somebody like him and he does that? Think about it before you join to lash out at somebody. People like you make the guy's music and it fucking sucks. And somebody from Ohio is making fun of Illinois? no.

Real talk.

Well, I'm from Toledo, where the population is about 8 times that of your town, so... yeah, I am.

Also, I fail to see how any of what you said, especially his parents helping him out and taking pictures of him playing a big music festival, reiterates him being a loser? Maybe if you accomplished something like that, your parents could also experience the feeling of being proud. Another point of interest would be that you're trying to claim something personal on him based off your opinion of his music. Try meeting him or something, don't just say "His music sucks, he writes shitty lyrics, his parents helped him out, he sold thousands of records and is pretty popular, but he sucks and he's a loser." It makes you look stupid.

Are you really so offended by MC Lars that you felt the need to create an entire thread attacking him? I'll be the first to admit that MC Lars isn't for everyone, but from this just seems entirely unnecessary. What exactly has he done to warrant this level of disdain? I met him briefly at Bamboozle a few years back, and he was one of the most genuine dudes there. He seems like he enjoys what he does, doesn't take himself too seriously, and isn't trying to be something that he's not. What's wrong with that?
