I personally Love this band and I think they're one of the most innovative and influential hardcore bands in the music scene today. Discuss away...

i only got to see them for the first time a few months ago, curse living in australia
it was phenomenal.
it was almost enough to make me become religous
though sometimes i feel i cant always make the connection with the songs when they are direct religious references, am i the only one who feels that way?
i was rather annoyed about the crowd around me, it was a festival but most of the people in front of me and the barrier didnt know half their songs in their set. which i was dissapointed with.
when i first started liking 'screamo' music, underoath were by far one of my favourites from the get go, when i first heard "They're Only Chasing Safety" i was blown away, i listened to that cd over and over. it was that it was all screamo it was the combination of aaron gillespies clean and beautfilly sung vocals and spencers screaming combined that had me hooked.
admittedly i cant play any instruments but i idolise aaron gillespie so much, to me he is incrdible to be able to sing so beautfully and heartfelt at times and yet be such a bad ass drum player.
'can you feel your heartbeat racing?
can you taste the fear in her sweat?
you've done this wrong its too far gone
the sheets tell of regret
i admit that i am just a fool for you
just a fool for you'
amazing song, amazing band

Only enjoyed one album, and also saw them in concert, they praised jesus too much.
Edit: I know they are a christian band.

who?
they're not hardcore and aren't innovative or influential in any way. they bite off past metalcore/pop/punk bands and put it all together. i'm not saying they're bad, but definitely nowhere near the best.
also, official thread, search function, noob, etc...

Are we talking about Dallas era or Spencer era, because they are almost two seperate bands all together?
Too Bright Too See, Too Loud Too Hear is a great song though.

I know I'll get a lot of shit for this.....but this is one band I can't stand. I'm not saying they are not talented, because they've put out records and have a good fan base. I saw them live once, and it was not a good show on their part. The one song I do like is Reinventing the Exit, but other than that, I don't like them much. But with that said, we all have our own opinions.

I thought the whole point of going to youth group was to meet easy chicks. It would be like going to christian summer camp and not having a gay experience... Unheard of!

I can't understand how Underoath receive so much hyperbolic praise. Note: they're not that good.

I just don't like Paramore. Riot was all right, but nothing special, and Decode sucked.

my bad. No wonder you have 0 coolness points on AP.net.
Define The Great Line is, to me, a flawless album.
TOCS is good, but Spencers screaming on that album sounds kinda crap.
LITSOS is awesome. But too short.

Define the Great Line is easily their best album, in my opinion. They're Only Chasing Safety was, at times, too "scene" and a handful of lyrics and vocals on that album were annoying to me. When it first came out in 2004, it was definitely a step in a new direction for the indie music scene. However, in retrospect, it's not one of their albums I'd regularly listen to. Lost in the Sound of Separation was a solid release, but, aside from being too short, it had a very flat-line sound to it. It seems to stay in one mood and not change. Define the Great Line was definitely their best for me. Lots of heaviness being brought to the table with just the right mix of pop-rock...

What year is this? There's no way someone in 2009 thinks this.

yeah it's classic indie rock.

No, but, I was just trying to make it seem like 2004 was so long ago. That's one of the last years where I really paid attention to the music being released. Not "indie" in the sense of how smaller bands of the 80's and 90's were, but, as far as independent record labels are concerned. I don't know how else to put it.

Agreed.
Their new effort didn't stick with me like their DTGL and TOCS. It sounded like an extended version of DTGL and by the time it came out, I was already leaning away from that album, wanting refreshing new material but it never happened.

i mean i dont agree with what you say but your not ragging on them,
you've said you dont like them which is your opinion, but your not the sort of person who just goes 'oh well your fave band sucks so therefore you suck'

life is to short to be a negative person. If Underoath makes someone a better person, I'm all for it.
