I have posted a review (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=2976529) for The New Amsterdams - Story Like a Scar. The disc landed in stores March 21st (http://www.absolutepunk.net/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=570&day=2006-3-21) on Vagrant Records (http://www.vagrant.com). I'm trying to alter my review style and use the entire 1-10 scale, this is my first attempt.

I see a negative review on AP and it's for The New Amsterdams? :shake: Throw someone else under the bus. Anyway, I am with you that I expected more. Such a step down from Worse for the Wear, but still worthy of my listening time.

Hahah sorry man, my intentions are never to throw someone under the bus. I just heard this record and had to restrain myself from changing songs, oy.

No, bashing reviews aren't allowed. If you can defend your negative score without being a dick, you can write the review.

What a fucking joke.

I'm seriously embarrased for you man....

I'm sorry, I still think you're a good guy but that's just way off.

I guess I need someone to be embarassed for me, because I'm not embarassed for myself. I don't expect this type of shit from you Slade. In my opinion the album is a dud, and no one will care about it after this week. Now if the readers are so immature as to ridicule us for passing over albums that we would otherwise review negatively and then ridicule us likewise when we once choose to write the review, then that's your problem. Go figure your shit out.

I've always liked you, so before this gets ugly I want to come right out and say that this is strictly a debate. I'm not about to attack you personally for any reason at all.

That being said:

You gave Voices a good review, how and why you could and would do this is totally beyond me. Voices is a terrible mess, the vocals, music, lasting value, lyrics and production were all just plain awful. So when I see you give a review like this for an album that I regard as one of the years best, it upsets me greatly. Yes I know my cred can be attacked from a thousand different angles and that's fine. If you or anyone else wants to go that route about this topic, go ahead. But I guess it's when I compare this to your other reviews that the true audacity of it really shines. C'mon man, obviously you weren't listening very well during SLAS. But, I know that this post will change nothing and that's fine, I'm just blown away that the one negative review on this fucking site is for such a great great album.

I know I know man. But look: I liked Voices. Nobody will ever give Matchbook any cred because, well their name is Matchbook. But that album has a lot of stunning moments, and if you don't agree that's fine. But I don't agree that Mae is good at all, but to each his own you know? I heard Story Like a Scar and I loved the first song, and wanted to love the album, 20 minutes later I was lost, nothing struck me, all I heard was Matt's voice and that was all. Dull, we've heard it before, no oomph, no edge, ach, just didn't touch me at all musically. A couple weeks ago I would have just not even listened to it, but I thought, well why don't I try and review this with my new view on the Score system. So that's the result, and that's all I can say.

Okay......that's fine. At least you have the balls to write a neg review for something.

I just wish that it wasn't this. Oh well.

Yeah even if everyone hates me for this, at least maybe I can shut some people up. Next negative review: Gatsby's American Dream... time to reallllly shake things up.

Cartel's catchy as hell, glad I've already seen them twice.
