View Full Version : NY Met's Lineup
Sorry to make this specific to one team, but i just need to get some opinions from mets fans and baseball experts.
So Willie Randolph has carlos beltran batting third and david wright batting fifth. I don't know but i was always taught that the best hitter on the team should bat third. Beltran (possibly the most overrated player in baseball) has hit over .300 once in like 7 seasons and is a career .280 hitter. Last year wright, in his first full season in the bigs, hit .306 with 27 homers, 102 rbi, and 99 runs. Wright should be hitting third for this team.
And I don't care if it is a righty or a lefty on the mound. Wright should always bat third.
Case in point: In today's game, Beltran is 0-4 and has so far left like 4 men on base yet wright is 2-4 and has a solo homerun.
Anyone else agree with this? I'd be happy with beltran in the 2 slot because of his speed.

This should be our lineup right now:
Jose Reyes SS
Paul LoDuca C
David Wright 3B
Carlos Delgado 1B
Carlos Beltran CF
Cliff Floyd LF
Xavier Nady RF
Anderson hernandez 2B
Tom Glavine P
Beltran popped out twice to the same spot. he ruined a 2nd and 3rd RBI chance. He's so rediculous. You can even put Beltran 2nd, and slide everyone up one..then put LoDuca 6th or w/e.
David Wright is 2-4..a Home Run, a Single, and 1 run scored. Why isn't he batting third? Is it because of his age? I don't know. Either way, Beltran isn't working out in the 3 spot.

i would like to see beltran hitting second to take advantage of the speed that him and reyes have at the top of the lineup. Also, i think floyd has to be hitting behind delgado. The guy hit 34 homers last year.
But wright needs to be batting third. He is the best hitter on the team. He is gonna break out this season and everyone is going to know who he is.

although i am going to say one thing that most people will kill me for, but i think matsui should get a chance to start at second again. I know he is injured but when he gets back im looking for him to have a breakout year. I know he has sucked his first two seasons here after being really productive in japan, but now there is no pressure on him. When he comes back, he will be batting 8th. I think he can resurrect his career now that there is no pressure for him to contribute a lot offensively.

beltran should bat 2 or 3 cause he has speed to score from a single if delgado hits a double.

beltran should bat second, then wright can bat third (he led the team in doubles last year). And then delgado and floyd can clean up the bases with their power.

ive been pushing the give matsui another chance thing for a while, im pretty sure he has the potential to be the fastest player in the league, the games i watched the guy just flew around the bases. I think, if given the chance, they can turn him into a solid hitter for average, and if they can fix his fielding issues hed definitely be worth putting in the lineup. I mean, if worse comes to worse, play him until he ATLEAST becomes tradeable.

is what it should be, but Randolph even said that he's going to tinker with the lineup a bunch before deciding on one.

It would kind of make sense to put Wright 4th or 5th though. Remember all year last year? They intentionally walked Piazza or Floyd and Wright came up with bases loaded and he delivered big.
He does deserve the three spot though. Without a doubt.

He does deserve but I seem to remember reading somewhere that they didn't want him in the third spot because they don't want to put too much pressure on him, it is only his second full season with the team it's understandable.

willie is dumb for thinking that. He was the best player on the team last year. Now he has more offensive help.

You can't have too much pressure if you're David Wright. Let's see..
Barehanded diving catch..
Diving into the stands in Seattle, making the catch..
.302 Avg, 176 Hits, 27 Homeruns, 102 RBI's, 17 SB's last year..
Insanely large fanbase..
Playing in a MAJOR sports market, New York..
Uhhh...yeah, no pressure there, right? He's lived through the pressure in his first two seasons..he can deal with pressure this year.

add that to the fact that there have been no home grown stars playing for the mets in a long time. Plus it must be hard for him to play with the fear that minaya might trade him for some latin american minor league players.

im not sure what this is about but im assuming that it is referring to when wagner enters the game to close it out. My only response would be that i think the players choose the songs they want so their is a good chance that wagner has been using that for a while and it's not a met's thing. I could be wrong though.

That's a decission made by Wagner and let's be honest it's not the most original idea ever to begin with.

The players usually choose their song. Blame Wagner, haha.
Trevor Hoffman walking into the game to Hells Bells is pretty intimidating. Haha.

unless beltran is coming out of the bullpen, it doesn't matter where he hits. The mets still won't win the division.
But i do agree he's overrated and shouldn't be hitting 3rd, however.

although i cannot guarantee they will win, they have an excellent chance. That chance definately hinges on beltran earning all the money the mets are paying him.

I think the Mets can win without Beltran, it's their pitching that worries me at this point. If their staff can stay relatively healthy and productive throughout the year they should win the division by five games at the very least.

no it hinges on the other guys in the bullpen other than wagner, and possibly heilman. oh yeah, and if anyone besides pedro and glavine can get beyond the 5th inning.

i would like to see it higher, but there is really no one else on the team who should be leading off. The guy may be the fastest player in major league baseball. Their are really no other guys on the team who can bat leadoff.

Traschel(spelling?) is plenty capable of getting through five innings so the starting pitching if healthy isn't bad.

Anyone with a better OBP would work until they cant get someone else. It might not be pretty, but someone like Diaz or Floyd could fill it. Reyes hurts them with his horrible OBP.

leadoff hitters should NOT be determined by speed.
OBP should be the determining factor.
that said, Keith Foulke has the best entrance music for any player in the MLB...

Foulke is not going to be getting any kind of intro if he keeps giving up hard hits in the 9th inning.

dude, he was good two and three years ago and was injured last year, he is a good number 3 pitcher, the problem is when you put him in the number 1 or 2 starter spot.

dude, you call yourself a mets fan? i have only been a casual fan for the last few years and i know he wasn't a 20 game winner ever. He went 16-10, that was the most wins he ever had in a season.

That's because I don't like Trachsel? I could of swore he won 20 games. Oh well, he's still not going to be the best pitcher. Plus, how does this not make me a Met fan? I don't memorize every little stat ever.

side question: heartshapedbox, you are from staten island. Do you live anywhere near the "castle house". Everytime i drove back to school in baltimore i would take the outerbridge crossing, and i would always pass this house when i was on the highway (i think it was the staten island expressway). On the top of the house, there were freakin turrets like a castle, do you know of this placE?

Haha, yes. I actually live very close to it. It's been there for awhile. I moved from Brooklyn to Staten Island in 2000 and it's been there since before then. I would love living in a house shaped like a castle.
