So after swimming in indie waters for the last two years, I've gotten back into post-hardcore. It's gotten to a point where I'm now hooked on Underoath, when just a few years ago I used to despise them.
Anyone have any band suggestions I should check out?
I'm rockstarK9 on lala.com if you wanna shoot me a recommendation that way.

Ummm
Norma Jean (they used to be mathcore, then metalcore and now post-hardcore... you prolly know them though)
The Almighty Proxy (just released an EP)
The Fall Of Troy (if you'll call them post-hardcore.)
Alexisonfire (if you don't know them that's really sad.)
Thursday (read previous parentheses)
Drowning Scarlett (realll underground but if you like Emanuel mixed with DGD and Blood Brothers' voices you might like them.)
At The Drive-In (vintage ish)
GlassJAw (kinda expected)
Fear Before [The March Of Flames]
ummm quote me if you like this list or not and depending on your answer I may or may not be able to help.

Metalcore on estrogen or pop-punk on steroids. It's become a watered-down genre with a few good bands still in it, but most of it is just this new wave of Sc3n3 H1PST3rzzzz

Do we really need a new name for every slight tweak in music trends that comes along? Like, what makes this 'post-hardcore' different enough from 'hardcore' to necessitate a new name?

Like, what makes this 'post-hardcore' different enough from 'hardcore' to necessitate a new name?Well A.) this genre has been around for twenty years and has a definition of "singing with screaming... melodies similar to pop-punk or metalcore." So everything from Armor For Sleep to the new Norma Jean to old/new FBTMOF can fit into it. Glassjaw and Fugazi were like the pioneers I gues of Post-hardcore. If you ahven't heard of them that is ultra-sad...

No, I'm being completely serious. I can understand how Nick Drake and The Beatles are different enough to require being named 'folk' and 'rock', respectively, and Iggy Pop 'punk', Sly And The Family Stone 'funk', David Bowie 'glam rock', Joy Division 'post-punk', Kraftwerk 'electronic', Pixies 'alternative', Wu-Tang Clan 'hip hop', etc. Those names are necessary because they are wildly different takes on music. But the number of different genre names in 'the scene' is absurd. Pop-punk, emo, screamo, hardcore, metalcore, completelyunnecessarynumberofspinof fgenreswithcoreattheendcore, indie, etc., etc., etc., when it's really mostly part of a larger whole, 'the scene.' I mean, do we really need distinct names for what is just really bands putting their own spin on 'the scene' aesthetic?

Okay, maybe what I was thinking was 'hardcore' is 'post-hardcore'. Then what the fuck is 'hardcore'? And why should I care when the only genres I care to recognize are "things my face likey" and "things my face don't"?
Oh, and I've heard of those bands, duh.

Wrong.
These labels are unnecessary, especially with the amount of confusion surrounding all of these "post" and "core" labels.
If the OP is looking for something like Underoath just go to Solid State's website and listen to all the other mediocre bands there.

Hardcore is actually hardcore punk which is defined as a musical genre with a strong DIY ethic and political-based lyrics with fast-paced short songs with little room for melodicism... the ones with melodicism are melodic hardcore...

It can also relate to Hardcore Techno. Hardcore techno, often referred to as just "hardcore", is a style of electronic music that originated in the early-to-mid-1990s in multiple locations including the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Belgium and the UK. The style is typified by a fast tempo. and the rhythmic use of distorted and atonal industrial-like beats and samples.

Well, I'm not saying I want Underoath like bands, I'm just throwing that out there as an example. I've been a fan of Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Fear Before, and ISMFOF. I'm just looking for more bands to further explore this genre, without getting into all these new metalcore bands.
I'm gonna check a lot of these bands today, thanks for the recs guys!

I can understand that. Getting over the initial hype, they dropped alot of the cool post-rock/metal sound that was on SOTE, but I think its still a great metalcore album.

Eh... I don't know how to put it. Labeling music is so sensitive anyway. I know bands like Thursday are always batched into the post-hardcore realm and such.
