I can listen to some Tool now and then. If it weren't for their fanbase, more people might give them a chance. I don't buy into any of this 'tool is sooooo deep' stuff. Their music can get pretty technical at times, but it's not mind blowing. Their lyrics a lot of the time are just silly. I think taking a lighthearted approach to listening is the best way to enjoy their songs, because they do have some pretty good riffs/hooks/and the whole 9 yards.

A lot of their lyrics and music is a bit too much for me to understand. I've tried reading all the lyrics and shit and what they have to do with and all of it is mind blowing. Some of the time signatures they use are just ridiculous.

Take a look and see what the song Forth Six & Two is about:

Basically, it's believed that there are three levels of human evolution and each has it's form of conciousness. There's the 1st level with 44 chromosones. These are primitve people's like the aboriginies in Australia who do not percieve anything outside of themselves. They only see one large conciousness with no distinguishment between organisms. Then there's the second level with 46 chromosones. That is us. We are a chaotic disharmonic conciousness that is basically used as a stepping stone between the first and third levels. The third level is 48 chromosones. (Or 46 & 2, with 2 being the sex chromosones x & y). This is the higher level of conciousness. Our destination.

But this is where the Jungian theory comes in. It is believed that you can not reach this third level of evolution without first delving into yourself and basically cleansing your conciousness for the next jump. That's where the Shadow comes in. The shadow is basically everything about that is unseen that you are uncomfortable with or hate. This is also known as the Anima (hence the name of the CD).



Here's a look at the lyrics at the end of the song.

tool has a talented drummer, that's it. their songs aren't anything to write home about. the lyrics are borderline pretentious/experimental crap. they're like a heavier mars volta in a sense. not genre-wise, but crazy fans who jerk off to their mediocre music.

Tool/APC are my boyfriends favorite bands. I never really gave them a chance in the past because i had heard so many horrific things about them/every tool fan ive ever met was creepy. I'll admit that after having listened to tool alot with my boyfriend that they arent nearly as bad as people make them out to be, but i would never buy one of their albums. APC has some really catchy shit, too.

I haven't listened to Tool in ages. I still think Aenima is a great album and Opiate and Undertow are pretty good but I've not heard the newer stuff. I saw them live at Donnington a couple of years ago and I thought they were a bit dull. Don't get me wrong they were very good.
