the phillies next game is wednesday against st. louis, he is currently at 37 games

I say he gets to 50. He's a good hitter and deserves to pass dimaggio but i don't see it happening. AND if he did he'd get so much crap for it.

i think this would be good for baseball with everything going on with the steorids and stuff

agreed. and to see someone from such a small team do it would be great too.

i think he goes hitless in his next game. there's a reason why no one's gotten anywhere close to it.

I think he makes it to the 44-47 range.

...Although I'd love to see him make it over 50....

it would be great for baseball, but if you really think about it, 56 games in a row is one of the most impressive records in all of sports

i'm not voting. i don't want to jinx it. i'd love to see it happen, but if it doesn't i hope it dies quick. it's going to be enough of an uphill battle for the phils already this year without distractions.

i was thinking about the streak yesterday and i thought of an interesting scenario. Say someone goes on a tear and hits for like 70 straight games, some huge number. But at the same time, he goes 1-4 every game. That gives him a .250 average. Does this make him good? The player has done something that no one has ever done before. At the same time, he has compiled one of the lowest averages for every day players.
Thoughts?

im praying to god he doesnt break this record...

wed 12th or thurs 13th it goes down. hudson or smoltz holds him hitless.

wow just watching ATH and larussa ordered a strike be thrown to rollins in his last at bat, so they didnt walk him and end his streak. interesting.

i think he doesnt get to 40. maybe if this streak wasnt over 2 seasons i would give him a shot

It's legit though. He still had to hit the pitch and in an 8 run game, there was no reason not to throw him a strike. Hats off to Larussa for playing the game its meant to be played.

He would still have to hit the ball. I'm happy to see it still going. I have a feeling he will atleast beat the NL record (44 games). That alone would be good for baseball.

i didn't realize records carried over like that. this is awesome, i think he can get past 44. he's a solid hitter

Dirty Ernie
04/04/06, 08:18 PM
if he even gets to 40 that is impressive, considering he had 6 months in between at bats and game time temps in philly the next two games will be around 40 degrees

Dirty Ernie

double in the first inning, 38 games

yeah, it definitely shows a real respect/love for the game. I think that's something that has been seriously lacking as of late.

With this steroid-craze and all it's nice seeing the good guys get some attention.

i think he'll get to somewhere around 40-45. It's pretty tough, not every manager is as classy as Larussa.

rollins went 0-4 today, so it was fun while it lasted

now if the phillies could win a single fucking game

it was a great run, its unfortunate for the phillies that it ended cause now all attention is on the fact that they lost their first three games of the season at home

streak is over, but it would be nice if the phils could pull out a victory. I have a feeling he'll have another hit streak this season.

I really dont know how a leadoff hitter cannot have a hit streak like that when theyre getting 4-5+ AB's a game. You could argue about the starters being tough but not all relievers are that great.

well the leadoff hitter might face the starter 3 times and a reliever once ....or a starter all 4 times if the pitcher is on fire. A hitting streak like this is unreal, no matter what spot the guy hits in the lineup.

Agreed. Its the leadoffs job to get on, not to necessarily get hits. A leadoff hitter with a reached base streak would be more significant.

it really was overshadowing their three game losing streak, now everyone will get back to the business of hating their front office and pitching staff
