For myself it would be between Ed Norton / Daniel day Lewis / Leonardo dicaprio

Daniel Day Lewis

this was a TOUGH choice though, you made some great options to chose from. Props on Emile Hirsch by the way, I think he's going to be easily the next big actor and the biggest of our generation. That guy shows SO MUCH potential it's insane, he's done everything so impeccably well I can't wait to watch his career develop. Same with Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, and Where the Wild Things Are), he DEFINITELY should have been up for an Oscar for his performance in There Will Be Blood. AND Hirsch should have been acknowledged for his performance in Into the Wild.

meh, I think Bale still has to prove himself in my opinion... he's getting there though.

Would have liked to see Philip Seymour Hoffman on the list too.

don't give me too much credit, i only came up with the idea, then made a thread where people nominated who they thought should be on the list. i linked to that thread in the opening post, btw.

edit: i loved paul dano in there will be blood. haven't seen him in anything else, though. actually, i haven't seen emile hirsch in anything. i feel left out.

Went with DiCaprio, but I like Gordon-Levitt as well. My favorite of living/active Actors has to be Gael Garcia Bernal.

Johnny Depp is soooooo over rated since those Pirate movies (which to this day I've only seen half of the first one and didnt care to watch more)
Blow was his last good role that I can think of.

dustin hoffman. if i know he's in a movie the chances of me liking it are all of a sudden improved. Depp's a great character actor too.

ha, didn't really give this much thought, but i just saw 500 days of summer and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's face is still stuck in my head.

out of all the johnny depp movies i've seen, only 6 are good:

edward scissorhands
what's eating gilbert grape
donnie brasco
blow
finding neverland
secret window

that's a pretty poor ratio of good movies he has made to how many he's been in the last 20 years.

i've yet to see dead man though.

Dustin Hoffman > Brad Pitt > Leonardo Dicaprio ~ Emile Hirsch ~ Daniel Day-Lewis > Edward Norton > Johnny Depp ~ Christian Bale > Joseph Gordon-Levitt > many many many many others > Hellen Keller > Sacha Baron Cohen

I went with Pitt even though he hasn't done a whole lotta good lately. You can't beat his three films in a row in mid-90's... Se7en, Sleepers and 12 Monkeys are phenomenal. Not to mention Snatch and Fight Club. Inglorious Basters looks promising.

Bard, you need to see Fear and Loathing.

Norton, in my opinion, is the most talented actor both on this list and of his decade.

i have seen that movie. depp's acting was great in it, but the movie overall was too sporadic and weird. i wish i would've read the book first because i heard that's the best way to do it. i have no interest in reading it now though.

that clip is why i hated that movie

PERSONALLY, it is Tom Hanks, hands down! Seriously, only actor ever to win Best Actor Oscar in back-to-back years. But, it's DDL here.

tom hanks is pretty great, and has way more movies than DDL, but i'm not sure who i'd pick in that poll.

Give it a few more years, and it will easily be Gordon-Levitt. As of right now though, it's hard to say anyone besides Pitt or DiCaprio. I couldn't pick between those two, but it was even harder for me to convince myself that anyone else on there was the right answer.

08/24/09, 09:46 AM
Really, Johnny Depp? In my opinion he is so overrated. He can only play one kind of character and granted he does it well, but if you saw him in Public Enemies (AND HE FUCKING SUCKED) there's no way you can choose him.

I chose Norton but the best professional actor of the bunch has to be Daniel Day Louis. He puts on the most consistent, highest quality work out of all of those.
