It has to be because of the people who don't support Obama seem to truly hate him. I don't remember a time where someone was hated so much by nonsupporters. It's scary.
Agreed. A lot of people really, really, really, wanted Bush impeached. A lot of people really, really, really want Obama assassinated.

I know it's terrible to think about, but I've thought to myself I wouldn't be surprised if someone assassinated him while in office. The level of hate against Obama (both against his race and his policies). He received several death threats during the primaries when it was likely he'd be the democratic nominee.

Mitt Romney is xshady.
"When it comes to shifting responsibility for failure, however, no one is a more frequent object of President Obama's reproach than President Bush," said Romney. "It's wearing so thin that even the late night shows make fun of it. I am convinced that history will judge President Bush far more kindly -- he pulled us from a deepening recession following the attack of 9-11, he overcame teachers unions to test school children and evaluate schools, he took down the Taliban, waged a war against the jihadists and was not afraid to call it what it is -- a war. And he kept us safe."

I take solace knowing Mitt Romney will never be president.
I figured Romney was going to re-mold himself again. Appears he's just going to go down the same path that made him unelectable last time.
Hopefully the Republicans continue this embracing of Bush. They can keep reminding everyone of those years so Obama won't have to.

hahahahahah omg the guy that got into a fight with Romeny on that plane was one of the guys from LMFAO :
LMFAO’s Sky Blu and Mitt Romney Scuffle on Flight to L.A.
Earlier this week, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was involved in a confrontation on a flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles. His alleged assailant? Sky Blu of the electro-rap duo LMFAO, the pourers of “Shots.” According to new reports, Sky Blu had the audacity to lower his seat back prior to the flight’s takeoff, which caused Romney, who was sitting behind the rapper, to loudly request that he straighten his first class seat.
From there, things escalated, and Romney’s spokesperson told the press Sky Blu became “physically violent,” the New York Daily News reports (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/02/19/2010-02-19_rappers_lmfao_say_mitt_romney_go t_physical_first_on_flight_from_van couver.html), leading the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to remove Sky Blu from the plane. In a video posted on TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/19/lfmao-mitt-romney-airplane-flight-fight-video/), Sky Blu and his Party Rock accomplice Redfoo talk about their run-in with Romney, and Sky Blu insists Romney became physical first. “He grabbed my shoulder, and I was like boom get off of me,” Sky Blu said. “The man assaulted me. I was protecting myself.”
In the end, Romney did not pursue charges, and even though the police said they arrested and released Sky Blu, he claims he was never actually placed under arrest. Romney and his wife were in Vancouver for the Winter Olympics while LMFAO had a concert in the British Columbian city the night before.
Ironically, while this all went down in Vancouver, the encounter has strong ties to the city of Detroit: Even though Romney is the former Governor of Massachusetts, he was born in the Motor City, a pedigree that helped him win the Michigan Republican primary over John McCain in 2008. Sky Blu and Redfoo, meanwhile, are the nephew and son of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, one of Detroit’s most important musical figures. Since Sky Blu seemed willing to forgive Romney for the encounter — “I’m sure he’s a good dude. It was just an unfortunate situation,” he said — maybe they can go to a Tigers game and hug it out.

California Town To Start Charging Up To $400 For 911 Calls (http://consumerist.com/2010/02/california-town-to-start-charging-up-to-400-for-911-calls.html)
The town of Tracy, California has come up with a new plan to make money: you'll have to pay between $48-400 to call 911 (http://cbs13.com/local/tracy.911.calls.2.1502690.html). I wonder if Tracy is planning on giving the caller the bill over the phone--they might be able to chain 911 calls together by giving the first caller a heart attack, thereby prompting someone else to call, and so on. Money!
Here's the pricing breakdown: if you want unlimited 911 calling for emergencies year round, you can pay a flat annual fee of $48. You don't have to pay that, but if you end up calling 911 and you aren't a member of the 911 club, you'll be charged $300. According to our tipster, out-of-towners will be charged $400

Honestly...I can't even describe her music. She's a very skilled harpist and pianist, and one of the most underrated lyricists in modern music. She's got this really high, crackly, inaccessible voice (which really showed itself on The Milk-Eyed Mender, but she toned it down for her next album Ys, and from what I can tell, she's toned it down a lot more for the new one). It's just one of those things that you have to hear, haha. But honestly, if this doesn't send chills down your spine then nothing will.
The meadowlark and the chim-choo-ree and the sparrow
Set to the sky in a flying spree, for the sport over the pharaoh
A little while later the Pharisees dragged comb through the meadow
Do you remember what they called up to you and me, in our window?
There is a rusty light on the pines tonight
Sun pouring wine, lord, or marrow
Down into the bones of the birches
And the spires of the churches
Jutting out from the shadows
The yoke, and the axe, and the old smokestacks and the bale and the barrow
And everything sloped like it was dragged from a rope
In the mouth of the south below
We've seen those mountains kneeling, felten and grey
We thought our very hearts would up and melt away
From that snow in the nighttime
Just going
And going
And the stirring of wind chimes
In the morning
In the morning
Helps me find my way back in
From the place where I have been
And, Emily - I saw you last night by the river
I dreamed you were skipping little stones across the surface of the water
Frowning at the angle where they were lost, and slipped under forever
In a mud-cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky'd been breathing on a mirror
Anyhow - I sat by your side, by the water
You taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledger
Thoough all I knew of the rote universe were those Pleiades loosed in December
I promised you I'd set them to verse so I'd always remember
That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee
You came and lay a cold compress upon the mess I'm in
Threw the window wide and cried, "Amen! Amen! Amen!"
The whole world stopped to hear you hollering
You looked down and saw now what was happening
The lines are fading in my kingdom
(Though I have never known the way to border them in)
So the muddy mouths of baboons and sows and the grouse and the horse and the hen
Grope at the gate of the looming lake that was once a tidy pen
And the mail is late and the great estates are not lit from within
The talk in town's becoming downright sickening
In due time we will see the far butte lit by a flare
I've seen your bravery, and I will follow you there
And row through the nighttime
Gone healthy
Gone healthy all of a sudden
In search of the midwife
Who could help me
Who could help me
Help me find my way back in
There are worries where I've been
Say, say, say in the lee of the bay; don't be bothered
Leave your troubles here where the tugboats shear the water from the water
(Flanked by furrows, curling back, like a match held up to a newspaper)
Emily, they'll follow your lead by the letter
And I make this claim, and I'm not ashamed to say I know you better
What they've seen is just a beam of your sun that banishes winter
Let us go! Though we know it's a hopeless endeavor
The ties that bind, they are barbed and spined and hold us close forever
Though there is nothing would help me come to grips with a sky that is gaping and yawning
There is a song I woke with on my lips as you sailed your great ship towards the morning
Come on home, the poppies are all grown knee-deep by now
Blossoms all have fallen, and the pollen ruins the plow
Peonies nod in the breeze and while they wetly bow
With hydrocephalitic listlessness ants mop up-a their brow
And everything with wings is restless, aimless, drunk and dour
The butterflies and birds collide at hot, ungodly hours
And my clay-colored motherlessness rangily reclines
Come on home, now! All my bones are dolorous with vines
Pa pointed out to me, for the hundredth time tonight
The way the ladle leads to a dirt-red bullet of light
Squint skyward and listen
Loving him, we move within his borders
Just asterisms in the stars' set order
We could stand for a century
Staring
With our heads cocked
In the broad daylight at this thing
Joy
Landlocked
In bodies that don't keep
Dumbstruck with the sweetness of being
Until we don't be told
Take this
Eat this
Told
The meteorite is the source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

I'd like to know people's thoughts on this. I'm not incredibly familiar with the details of reconciliation, but if a public option was passed through using it and given the limits it has passing through that method, do you think it would be harder to get rid of once it got through even with recon? I'd imagine once passed, something that gives insurance to the people is publically hard to remove. People could be more for it after being passed.

Ok, so, I have a question. I'm apply for this fellowship program, where basically, you get a stipend to work on a campaign. I've been having a fairly hard time getting involved and can't afford to work for no money, so this is perfect. Anyway, one of the questions asks you about your most important activism. I was a press intern for a senator, which is obviously in the political realm, and helpful, I think in terms of getting a job. But, I've also done a lot of voter registration drives, which I sort of think is more important, and more "activism" than my internship, which wasn't. Which do you think I should write about? Could I work both in there, or would that be not answering the question?

But, I've also done a lot of voter registration drives, which I sort of think is more important, and more "activism" than my internship, which wasn't. Which do you think I should write about? Could I work both in there, or would that be not answering the question?
I had to write a similar essay for a graduate fellowship a few weeks ago. Personally, I'd write about both but I'd make the voter registration drive the focus since that seems to be more in line with activism than being a press intern. That being said, your work as a press intern would only make your application stronger so I'd definitely include it.

Yeah, thanks - I'm sure if I think hard enough there is a way to intertwine. And hopefully my internship not giving me a letter of rec won't fuck me over either. They said "we'll give you a reference, but we don't write letters." Used and abused.
P.S - good luck with whatever you applied for.

I like him, so I was interested to see what he said. If the point he was trying to make was, if you're going to call it a 'hood pass', let's really call it what it is, as in 'look at how black people are still treated, let's not dance around the words and feelings', well then, good point, bad idea to drop an N-bomb in Playboy. If he was just looking to drop n-bombs, then tsk, tsk, John Mayer.

the general rule of thumb is that you can stay on as long as you're claimed as a dependent - for most people this is through college as the "fulltime student" rule. the obama plan extends this to age 26, though i don't see in practice how that theoretically matters - unless it's a subtle dig at how the employment forecast going forward looks.

Scott Brown posted a statement on his FB page. The comments on it are HILARIOUS.
Scott Brown “I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I am voting for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work. ... I hope for improvements in that process going forward.”

Opinion on the Obama plan ? On the surface, it seems pretty decent. I think it did the right thing with the individual mandate but on the employer mandate, it seems kinda of weak. Still better than nothing. I can deal with something moderate going through.

I think the public option will have to be part of reform that passed later. Thankfully, this whole thing has made it into an issue. I was kinda of hoping there would be a trigger option on the Obama plan.

See, this is what's sad. Too many of the growing tea-partiers are insistent that any sort of "liberty" is inherently conservative, when that's simply not the case. I'd actually be in support of a movement that was about real liberty (in a social sense), and fiscal conservatism. I can back both sentiments. They're missing out on people of intellectually-driven conservative principles while rolling in the political mud of pseudo-issues like gay rights, abortion, etc.

If you don't want to buy auto insurance, then don't drive. If you don't want to buy health insurance, um, don't live?
Those two don't correlate. It's a stupid comparison, BO. I expect better from such a well run politician.
This has actually been one of my biggest problems (one of my few, actually) with health care reform. You want to make things run smoother? Make things cheaper? That's awesome. Don't make me get insured. If things are going to be cheaper like they say, I'll just pay for them.

My biggest issue is them telling me I have to buy something from the free market. I get that it's health insurance, and it's for the greater good, but it's a slippery slope. Why should I be forced by the federal government to buy something from a private company? What's next? Red wine cuts down on heart disease, so can the government say everyone has to purchase wine?
My issue isn't health insurance. If the government wants to mandate it, then provide it. Don't mandate it and then tell me I have to line the pockets of some CEO in the process.

Absolutely correct. An individual mandate in a private market is not only immoral, it's counterproductive.

You didn't miss a thing. Reid came out after the meeting and basically said 'fuck it, let's push it through, we tried'. They really did, too. The Democrats were great, the Republicans were grasping straws, and acting like the Democrats were the ones who were assholes. It was maddening to watch, especially since CNN and FoxNEWS would cut away whenever someone on the 'other side' was talking, so I constantly had to jump back and forth.

We have a separate senator for the CRs here, it isn't any of the eboard members. There is a top SGA seat up, and one of the CRs is running for it (as a former senator). Senators vote for the position, so it kind of is beneficial to him if I can get this all done in time for the vote at the end of the semester. Kind of excited though, according to our paper, the SGA here is quite a clusterfuck.
The CDs here are a miserable group here though. No presence, poorly run. Quite an embarrassment.

That does sound cool. My school is really small, so College politics are disgustingly skewed in favor of a few students, so I've always stayed out of it.
The Dems here were awful too. It seems each grade has their primary Liberal who takes charge of the group (I was never involved) and when the girl graduated last year it literally just disappeared. I have always felt really outnumbered by Conservatives (though we have a dominantly Liberal faculty) but just recently discovered a bunch of students who want to get the group back together, so I'm sort of spearheading the movement. I'm pretty excited about it.

Last thing I tried to spearhead was to resurrect the defunct Super Smash Bros Group. We had started a group freshman year about smash, but the only people that ended up showing up were a small group of friends so it died. It was easier to just play in our dorm. Flash forward to this year, I go to ressurect it when I find out a bunch of n00bz started one for the Wii/GC versions only. Fucking posers. Everyone knows that 64 smash (and it's japanese cousin, Nintendo!Allstars) are the only true worthwhile ones to play.
