There are some genius comments on that article...

My personal favourite: "BTW, it's time we take back the word "gay." We should be able to have a gay old time without thinking about perverted sex. Get another word to describe yourselves!"

I find it hilarious that this guy actually stops to think about men screwing whenever he uses the word "gay".

That is the day that the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts fully expire.

IF Obama decides to he wants these to continue he will lose my full support.

How will Republicans confront this issue?

Will these new-found deficit hawks support letting them expire or default on the right's mantra of "TAX CUTS! TAX CUTS! TAX CUTS!"?

If people are truly concerned with the budget they should be for letting them expire: If extended the cuts will add $3 trillion to the deficit

this race petrifies me. Honestly I'm not sure Deeds can pull it off with all that's going on at the Federal level. he was the right pick out of all of them but it still makes me nervous. and in rural VA for the most part (there are pockets just like any other state I'd imagine) but having a D is unacceptable. blah blah blah no one cares but:

In an interview in the October issue of Vanity Fair, which hits newsstands in New York and Los Angeles Wednesday, Levi Johnston continues to dish on his time living with Sarah Palin's family and dating her daughter, Bristol.

"There wasn't much parenting in that house. Sarah doesn't cook, Todd doesn't cook -- the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, and get ready for school. Most of the time Bristol would help her youngest sister with her homework, and I'd barbecue chicken or steak on the grill."

Johnston also reveals that Palin had a plan to adopt his and Bristol's child as her own before word got out that her daughter was pregnant. "Sarah told me she had a great idea: we would keep it a secret -- nobody would know that Bristol was pregnant. She told me that once Bristol had the baby she and Todd would adopt him. That way, she said, Bristol and I didn't have to worry about anything."

Nice to hear from you all.

Between my computer breaking down, working on a few projects this summer, and college search ratcheting up, I just haven't had any time for message boards. Hell, I didn't download music for 6 months.

Working on a State Senate campaign here, can check it out at www.baruth2010.com, he's a great candidate, could probably be Governor some day, and given the huge netroots support, who knows where he'd go from there. Trying to figure out what my plans are for this summer, I'd like to work for Doug Racine's gubernatorial campaign, but if I can't get a paying gig there, I was offered an internship at Democracy for America, as well as with Organizing for America. So I'm happy to have options, but for now I've got to figure out where I'm heading to college.

Any projects people have been taking on locally?

Damn, you've been busy. So jealous of how involved you are; I wish I could be, but I won't have a license for like six months and civilization is an hour away from Hicksville USA, where I currently reside. Those are some sweet internships.

As far as the college search goes, I'm in the same boat. If you haven't looked at it, look at the undergrad program that St. John's College has. I visited the Annapolis campus a few weeks ago and was so in love. I can't see myself going anywhere else. Glad to see everything's going well on your end.

Reagan fucking preached full-blown economic policy and nobody seemed to give a shit:

Today, to a degree never before seen in human history, one nation, the United States, has become the model to be followed and imitated by the rest of the world. But America's world leadership goes well beyond the tide toward democracy. We also find that more countries than ever before are following America's revolutionary economic message of free enterprise, low taxes, and open world trade. These days, whenever I see foreign leaders, they tell me about their plans for reducing taxes, and other economic reforms that they are using, copying what we have done here in our country.

I wonder if they realize that this vision of economic freedom, the freedom to work, to create and produce, to own and use property without the interference of the state, was central to the American Revolution, when the American colonists rebelled against a whole web of economic restrictions, taxes and barriers to free trade. The message at the Boston Tea Party -- have you studied yet in history about the Boston Tea Party, where because of a tax they went down and dumped the tea in the Harbor. Well, that was America's original tax revolt, and it was the fruits of our labor -- it belonged to us and not to the state. And that truth is fundamental to both liberty and prosperity.

Even if you don't like Rangel, which is fine, there's a reason there is a House ethics committee. If they find there is a problem and THEY asked him to step down, then I'd be fine with it. The ethics rules are there for a reason; having Members call each other out to step down doesn't really make for a productive session.

you should point out that welfare reform occurred under a democratic president which resulted in the single greatest drop in welfare payments.

Just a point of clarification since everyone always says that about Democrats and welfare.

In other news the Senate Finance Committee released its framework today and should be dropping the actual bill tomorrow. Energy and Commerce is set to resume markup next week for the final 60 amendments. Given the Senate Finance plan, the public option is pretty much guaranteed dead in the manager's amendment in the House. Lauren's prediction: Reconciliation they will come up with a trigger option, use the co-op option. The proposal already allows for Medicaid and SCHIP expansion so I'm betting there will be a Medicare buyin too. Tada health reform. Ugh.

After the session, appearing on Larry King Live, Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) said, "Totally disrespectful. No place for it in that setting or any other and he should apologize immediately."

Wilson attempted to call President Obama to apologize personally but instead ended up speaking to Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_Emmanuel). Wilson then issued an official statement later that night, saying "This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

"Aggie basketball game is about to start on espn2 for those of you that aren't going to bother watching pelosi smirk for the next hour," read a tweet on Texas Rep. That note was also deleted after several minutes.

I'm not voting for him, but that is an awesome commercial.

The chances of Jennings losing are slim, primary day is the only day that counts in Albany, so the 15th should be fairly interesting.

Looks my boss, Darius (running for city auditor), has a solid shot at winning. He won the endorsement of Senator Gillibrand, Jack McEneny (assemblymember), the county executive Breslin, former Comptroller Nitido (whose old job is being replaced by the new Auditor position), PEF, Teamsters, and also one of the leading papers in the state (and Albany's paper) the Times Union. His opponent is basically a hold over from last year's Congressional race. Engstrom worked for Steck, who lost to Tonko (who won the district in the G.E. as well) and Steck blames Darius for the loss. The guy has been trying to grill Darius, but he has been remaining level headed.

I just love the crazed rationale. The bill will not provide coverage to illegal immigrants period*. This is stated. So what the crazies are saying is that well then they will be given amnesty when we redo our immigration laws, making them legal, which would make them elligible. That's quite possibly some of the most roundabout logic I have ever heard.

*disclaimer: under EMTALA as currently provided by federal law, all people who present with a life threatening condition at the ED must be treated until they are stable. Nothing in the house bill changes this and I would presume finance wouldn't either. Nor should they.
