would mccain have had to face accusations of being a muslim (while dealing with a controversy over his CHRISTIAN pastor)....and is being a muslim such a bad thing that it should automatically disqualify you from being president?
would mccain have had to deal with the batshit charges that he wasn't born in the united states 6 months into his presidential term?
would mccain's political standing be causing an almost unprecedented increase in militant, racist movements?
would mccain be faced with accusations that he's taking our country away from us?
edit)i'm not prone to race baiting but has any other president ever been confronted with this sort of nonsense?

And if McCain won, Palin wouldn't have received any sexist remarks (just talking sexism here, not anything regarding her being obviously unqualified)? She was the target of many sexist remarks on these forums (and i think it's fair to say there is a higher intelligence among AP.net regarding politics than the general public).
McCain would have caught shit for being too old (which, similar to the race topic, does very little to gauge how effective a leader he is).
I think a bit better of a comparison would be Clinton in 92, when he was being criticized for having extra marital affairs in Arkansas. Or some of the stuff Bush caught was uncalled for (his intelligence for instance?)
It's just a lot more apparent when it's nonsense that challenges your viewpoint.

the only thing i can see as being discrimanatory would be some of the palin stuff.....the lady really is an idiot though.
no wasp president would ever be accused of being a gold durned muslam (while simultaneously being hounded for something his christian preacher said), no wasp would have to deal with the idea that he wasn't really born in america after providing proof of birth country. i suppose a wasp would see a rise in radical groups in an economic recession.....but i really don't see the whole "he's stealing our country" thing.

1 - No, but mostly becasue he didn't have a Muslim stepfather.

I didn't want to answer the "Is being a muslim is bad thing in a President?".. because I think it's pretty clear if he was an open muslim, he would not have even gotten through the primaries.
And the pastor thing is irrelevant in MY opinion.. I think Bush is a pretty good example of a fake-Christian running for President.

I'm not saying McCain deserves these crazy birther theories, but if a presidential candidate DOES deserve them, it's him. Since he technically wasn't born in the United States and there's evidence to prove it. I know he was born on a military installation and I know that technically makes him a citizen but still, he seems like easier fodder for conspiracy theorists than Obama. It's pretty obvious that the birther nonsense is rooted in racism since McCain didn't have to answer questions like these.

I didn't say he shouldn't be a citizen of the US. You can be born in another and eventually become a citizen of the US. It happens all the time.
What your saying is like denouncing a mexican immigrant who is a US citizen for still holding onto their culture. Are they dually allegiant? What is the US but a nation of immigrants.
I didn't think anyone expected the racists to go quietly. It was their plan all along to hide behind manufactured issues that questioned Obama's legitimacy.

I feel like for the most part, the shit that Obama is catching is from the far right wing. I'm not 100% sure, but to take into consideration that a lot of the people protesting at these Town Hall meetings are wearing Lynard Skynad shirts with Confederate Flags on them. That's just what i've seen. Also from Glenn Beck, Grasseley and Palin, they are all very much christian conservatives. I think that is where the hatred stems from with the "birthers" and such.
Also, how many people are skeptical of the place of birth of Obama? I remember the "truthers" being nothing more than crazy conspiracy theorists, but it seems like the "birthers" are straight up normal christians. I guess it all depends on who is looking for a fault in who.
I also think the sheer fact that he's the first black president is causing problems for conservatives, after all it is called the White House.
People would have just hated McCain because he's old :shrug:. There's always something to find in a president to be critical of, and some idiot will stoop to that level and cause a movement.
The issues should be the concern.

- 1st off, the issue of him "being Muslim" is A NON ISSUE. Aside from the fact that he isn't, it is stupid to base one's vote on religious affiliation seeing as our country was founded on a freedom of religion. I personally can't wait for an athiest president! I think it is time that we had somebody in office with a logical perspective on existence, leaving their policies unaffected by the idiotic standards and ideologies of a made up religion (this goes for ALL religions).
- 2nd off, the questioning of Obama's presidential legitimacy as pertaining to the validity of his birth certificate is a completely made up issue! Do some fucking research before you believe to the ignorant news that you hear on Fox News.
-3rd, the fact that you are totally closed off to any "liberal ideals" shows that you are an unintelligent person. Any person whose political beliefs follow party lines can not fully benefit from the wonders that a two party system of government brings.
I put in hours and hours of work to get Obama elected, and as of right now I am dissapointed with the results. Yes, he has completely changed the mood in DC, along with the world's perspective of our country. edit: I just skimmed through the Wiki article on Socialism and it does a decent job of giving a very broad outline on socialism as a concept. One of the biggest things to remember about socialism is that it's not a monolithic idea; there are a TON of different schools of thought when it comes to socialism. Reform vs. revolution, authoritarian vs. libertarian, etc. etc. Try reading up on socialism/communism at marxists.org

Good input. Care to elaborate?
I think it's ridiculous to assume all the negative comments and actions against Obama are because of his race. Sure, a portion of America are against him because of the color of his skin, but this negativity against him is also caused by discrimination and fear of middle easterns and the belief he is one, disagreement in policy and political beliefs, and religious beliefs.

I would suggest some of the works and essays of George Orwell. A common misconception is that he was opposed to socialism, but this is far from the truth. The Communist Manifesto is a must too. I'd also recommend reading up on early 20th century socialists like Eugene Debs. Otherwise, I'm frankly not a very intellectual socialist. I take the common sense approach and my ideas fit into the frame of socialism.

To be honest, the heat Obama is taking should have been expected. A major change occurred on election night. In a country of traditional politics, there will be adversity, but know that Obama is not the first president to endure such atrocities. He knew, being the first black president, that some would raise hell and oppose. You can't please all the people all the time. Whenever a Republican came into office, the liberals protested. It's all a part of freedom of speech, and some will use that freedom to speak in opposition of the current authority and/or what they feel is right. This is nothing new here...really.

first off, your reasoning is idiotic.
He did not receive so many votes because he was black. He received so many votes because of the political issues that he spoke about with charisma. Not to mention the fact that he's an amazing public speaker.
2nd, another reason he won was because Sarah Palin was an absolute idiot. Many Republicans didn't vote at all because they didn't want Obama OR Sarah Palin the White House.
3rd, How is he ruining this country? He hasn't passed any legislation yet that would anyway drastically change the way this country, except for the Stimulus Package which... I don't know, saved our country from another depression.
4th, Obama is NOT MODELING OUR COUNTRY AFTER FRANCE!!! you're obviously one of those ignorant, ultra conservative dumb asses, because mainly, FRANCE IS OUR ALLIE! additionally, Obama is not even modeling our healthcare system after France. France has universal healthcare, and they happen to be in the top ten ranking in the world for both health care, and life expectancy, while America stands 37, and 50 respectivly. Obama is not pushing universal healthcare (which he should because it has been proven in so many cases that free healthcare is the best and most efficient. he is pushing a government run healthcare program, that would be more affordable for the 50 MILLION AMERICANS THAT DON'T HAVE IT. that means that you can still keep your healthcare plan from one of the private corporations, that will drop you if you ever get really really sick, while I will switch to the government plan that won't bail on you because you get cancer, BUT TRY TO CURE YOU!!! there, both you're happy and I'm happy. He did not receive so many votes because he was black. He received so many votes because of the political issues that he spoke about with charisma. Not to mention the fact that he's an amazing public speaker.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
- Thomas Jefferson, Letter to the Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin (1802).
"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
- Abraham Lincoln, Letter to (Col.) William F. Elkins, Nov. 21, 1864.
"...This is not confined to some of the state governments and those of some of the towns and cities. We know that something intervenes between the people of the United States and the control of their own affairs at Washington. It is not the people who have been ruling there of late."
- Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom: A Call For the Emancipation of the Generous Energies of a People (1961).
There are cities everywhere, in every part of the land, in which we feel that, not the interests of the public, but the interests of special privileges, of selfish men, are served; where contracts take precedence over public interest. Not only in big cities is this the case. Have you not noticed the growth of socialistic sentiment in the smaller towns?"
- Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom: A Call For the Emancipation of the Generous Energies of a People (1961).
Politics in America is in a case which sadly requires attention. The system set up by our law and our usage doesn't work,--or at least it can't be depended on; it is made to work only by a most unreasonable expenditure of labor and pains. The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy."
- Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom: A Call For the Emancipation of the Generous Energies of a People (1961).
Um... could be be referring to THE PRIVATE BANK that all of our founding father's (especially Andrew Jackson) and even our late Presidents such as John F. Kennedy warned us about? Kennedy essentially stopped the Federal Reserve (CENTRAL PRIVATE BANK OF AMERICA NO GOVERNMENT AFFILIATION.Getting the picture?) with Executive order 11110 (go read up on it). Three months later he was assassinated.
TIMOTHY GEITHNER IS YOUR SECRETARY OF TREASURY. WALL STREET HAS TAKEN OVER MAIN STREET IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.
Our Presidents have been trying to warn us for a very long time, but just stay terrified and give up your civil liberties. Seems to be all the rage lately.
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government"
"1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence; (just look at the past 40 years)
8. From dependence back into bondage"
Please understand history repeats itself. If you want to take a look at what will eventually happen to a Democracy just look at ROME. That's your best example. In the end Freedom will win out. Tyranny never goes away... even in TODAY'S word. So it's time to wake up to that fact :/
"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day."
"I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."
-Thomas Jefferson
FYI - We've had the longest standing Democracy to date.

1. So he should be disqualified because he has a good speaking ability? You DO realize he lost a ton of votes because of his race. That has nothing to do with how to run a country. Just so you know, that one goes both ways very much. You can't sit and say "He got votes because he spoke well so he won." You sound like a complete tool by saying that, fyi. I'm so tired of that one. It's just a dumb excuse like it means anything. If there's people who vote based on that, fine. It's a free country, we CAN do what we want.

3. Both have a part, the government are very much helping. That's a fact that people like to ignore. And you clearly don't understand the stimulus money thing. Everyone knew we weren't going to use it all right away. But it puts money back into our hands.

1. He was elected on the issues. Many people called him "the best candidate in years". He was endorsed by many newspapers, magazines, and televisions channels because of the ISSUES. He promoted charter schools, clean air technology, healthcare reform, pro-choice, education reform in general, and strengthened foreign policy with countries like Iran, along with meetings with North Korea.
2. Palin is undoubtedly the dumbest presidential/vice-presidential candidate of all time. First off, she tried to run the entire campaign off of the "Joe the Plumber" issue (for taxing people with an income of $250,000 or more). To bad she didn't realize that he made LESS than 250,000 and wasn't even an authorized plumber. That was very stupid, seeing as she focused on this more than the ISSUES. She claimed that she had "foreign policy experience" because Alaska is near Russia. I live near Canada, but I don't know shit about foreign policy BECAUSE OF THAT. Additionally, she couldn't name a single court case aside from Roe vs. Wade, showing that she does not have a clue as to the history of our country (http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/sarahpalinvideos/youtube/palin-supreme.htm) (http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/sarahpalinvideos/youtube/palin-supreme.htm%29).
3. I see that you're not letting the truth and facts get in way of your arguement. Almost ALL of the stimulus money has been spent. If Obama did not pass the stimulus bill and did not bail out AIG and Merril Lynch, our country would be in a FAR worse situation than we are now. Obama has taken us from under 7,000 points in Dow Jones Industrial Average, to its current state of almost 9,500. That doesn't happen by luck! The "people" couldn't have kept AIG from going under, the government needed to step in and THEY DID!!!
4. If you already have healthcare with a private corporation, YOU CAN KEEP IT!!! It's annoying to listen to you speak about something you have no idea what you're talking about. With this government run plan, the 50 million Americans without healthcare will be able to get it. This way they can have a chance to live if they get cancer. You and the rest of your ultra conservative, jesus freak friends can keep your crappy ineffiecient care with the private companies! BTW CANADA IS RANKED WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY ABOVE THE UNITED STATES IN HEALTHCARE RANKINGS AND LIFE EXPECTANCY!!!! this shows that even after your uncle dies, he will have probably lived LONGER than he would have if he lived in America his entire life.
Learn the facts, and stop watching Fox News!

1. lol Settle down, I'm not saying he won because of his race or speaking ability. Just from talking to my friends around election time, it was obvious that he was the cool choice for people to make.
2. Well before the election she had one of the highest approval ratings of any governor in the States. She ran one of the most, if not the most, profitable state. And she closed the deal in securing one of the largest energy projects of all time, a natural gas pipeline, funded completely by the private sector. It seems like she is doing something right.
3. How does me saying that only 5% of the funds have been used mean I don't understand the stimulus money?
4. It may not be exactly the same as the Canadian system but the general idea is the same. We have more people than Canada and are in way more debt. How can we possibly run a better universal system?
The stimulus is a joke. Saved the country? Give me a break.
It just gave extra money to people who did not deserve it, thus giving people the idea that the government can rescue them whenever they foolishly spend their money. Obama has very socialistic policies, that is undeniable. I'm not calling the man a communist or a socialist or anything, but his policies are very socialistic. The government WILL NOT/ CAN NOT save anyone.
The government should not be giving away money it doesn't have to people who don't deserve it.

would mccain have had to face accusations of being a muslim (while dealing with a controversy over his CHRISTIAN pastor)....and is being a muslim such a bad thing that it should automatically disqualify you from being president?
would mccain have had to deal with the batshit charges that he wasn't born in the united states 6 months into his presidential term?
would mccain's political standing be causing an almost unprecedented increase in militant, racist movements?
would mccain be faced with accusations that he's taking our country away from us?
edit)i'm not prone to race baiting but has any other president ever been confronted with this sort of nonsense?
the first question. No, he would not, but then again, he doesn't have ties to the muslim world. Also he hasn't embraced the muslim faith. So that question is just stupid.
2nd Question: Christian, pastor yes, but that has nothing to do with why he was controversial. He was controversial because he said "God Damn America" I don't care what religion he was, that's simply not tolerated.
3rd Question: It's not bad if he were muslim, i have no problem with that, but the fact that he would claim to be Christian and practice the muslim faith would be contradictory, and reason to be upset (again, i think he's a christian, not a muslim).
4th Question: No, he wouldn't. He would freely show his birth certificate though, so again...kinda dumb question there.
5th Question: Really?
6th Question: No, McCain honestly wouldn't try anything to radical, but where are you trying to find that Obama is trying to take our country away from us? besides right wing nut jobs/extremists, nobody believes that.

Obama received so many votes simply because he was black. I'm not getting into this argument.
1. He received tons of votes because of his race...
I remember when Al Gore won 90% of the black vote because he was black.
And when John Kerry won 88% of the black vote because he was black.
If only there was something we could do to balance out the black majority and their stranglehold on this country. Maybe only count 3 out of every 5 of their votes. That way everybody wins.

Prove it.
The reason he won, the reason he got so many votes was not because of his race. It was because of the economic crisis, Sarah Palin, and George W. Bush. If anything, his race hurt him. See: West Virginia.

I don't think it's fair to compare the actions of one president [Clinton's affair] to what another president is [McCain is old, Obama is black]. Having an affair was his choice and he was hopefully aware of what would happen if anyone found out, especially considering his all-important position. It's not like Obama chose to be black or McCain chose to be old.

I really don't see how that supports the claim of the death panel
I am well aware of those percentages. I was talking about the huge increase in registered voters and first time voters, some only voting because he was black or a good speaker or whatever.
Totally.
There were 9 million more voters in 2008 than 2004.
There were 17 million more voters in 2004 than 2000.
Clearly those additional 17 million voters in 2004 were drawn to John Kerry and George Bush's abilities as black men and great public speakers.

What the hell is the point of posting a link if you don't bother to read it yourself?
"The pranksters behind Eisenstadt acknowledge that he was not, through them, the anonymous source of the Palin leak. He just claimed falsely that he was the leaker..."
The story wasn't made up, the guy taking credit for the leak was.

But why do you think they're voting for him because he's black or because he's a good orator? Today's youth is very liberal and have frequently went for Democrats in recent years.

Those "death panels" were made up things to scare all those real Americans (which, by the way, is a term liberals have been using lately and it's been infuriating me, but I digress) into thinking Barack Obama was going to go and kill Grandma Josephine with his bare hands. I don't even know how it got construed as a death panel.

Today I was at Subway ordering me a footlong. A young black girl is in line infront of me. She orders, and says kindly "Extra lettuce please" The guy acts like he doesn't hear her because he dabs on lettuce. So she repeats louder "Extra Lettuce Please" and he gives such a horrible body language of disgusts. So she apologizes for the mishap. She then says extra "Sweet Union Sauce." He again pretends to not hear it so I stepped in and said "she asked for extra Sweet Onion Sauce!" And he goes "oh i'm sorry, there you go". She kindly smiles at me.
So it's my time to order. She leaves and I say to him "i know you heard her, why would you be so disrespectful" And he says "they always come in here and make it difficult." And that point i'm livid and say "have some damn respect you low class sandwich maker! Make my sandwich the way i want it and I don't want any damn body language or stupidity" He was so embarrassed because there were quite a few people sitting and eating as it was lunch time.
Damn sometimes i'm embarrassed about the way White People behave.

bottom line. the people of America no longer have any respect for any political leaders white black yellow female whatever.
reason: the media has completely humanized all politicians and made them more like local celebs equivalent to paris hilton than leaders of our country. All of the hype and rumors about personal lives. I mean since when is people mag, star, and ok so interested in politics? They have turned the 3 branches of government into a 3 ring circus. This type of propaganda has been detrimental to americas sense of nationalism.

power in the american media is pretty concentrated. that probably is a big reason we rank so low in terms of freedom of the press.
