I had never seen them and my car needs a new radiator so i was stuck in the house all day, so i thought "why not?"

Holy shit, they were a lot better than i thought they were going to be. They always seemed to be advertised as just a slasher gore porn but they were so much more.
The plot was amazing and all the twists had me guessing until the very end. I'm dissapointed i didnt give them a chance before.

Pretty stoked for saw 6 now, anyone else?

The first Saw movie was an amazing low-budget suspense thriller. Not much of a horror movie, but they just kept getting worse as the series continues. To know there are going to be 9 films in all sickens me.

So you watch one decent film and 4 shitty sequels that beat on a dead horse longer then it needs to?

I've only seen the first one. And by reading the comments in this thread. I shouldn't go any further.

I'd say go for it.
It really does get more plot based as it goes. Saw 3 is pretty fan-servicey though.

I've seen all of them. They get a little bit more ridiculous as the series goes on, but I like them. The 5th is way too ridiculous though. Just a big pile of shit basically.

Hardly. I loved 2 a lot more than one. The amanda plot was crazy, i would of never guessed.

I agree, I feel like it was kind of cheap to have hoffman apprentice for jigsaw in the very beginning out of nowhere.
But I did love the ending scene, how everyone thought it was that other guy.

Eh, I felt that series never lived up to the originality of the first one, it became too much about how many gross out moments they could cram into a movie.

Definitely for three. Like, is showing a whole brain operation necessary? But 5 was pretty tame compared to the others.

And idk, the vast majority shares the same opinion as you, saying the first one was the best. I think they got better every installment minus 4.

But one did have that raw original feel, like 28 days later compared to 28 weeks.

No offense, just a differing opinion, but that actually totally killed the movie for me. If the idea was more hidden maybe I would've enjoyed it, but they showed every step as it happened and you could totally tell what was going on (the whole cell phone thing), which ruins that element of surprise that was so key in all the films.
Also, one thing I absolutely hated about II was having to watch Donnie Wahlberg the whole time. Makes me cringe.

this.

I've seen 1-4 and I couldnt even tell you what happens in 3 or 4 cause they got so redundant and you had to keep thinking back to the previous movies and I couldnt even remember by then who half the characters were.

Terrible movies besides the first one. And the first one, looking back, isn't that good either

Saw I and II were both quality horror flicks because underneath all of the gore they had fairly good plots. Then they just kept killing the franchise after them and continued to focus more on the gore and less on the plot. Though I never watched Saw V.

i absolutely despised 4, and i can barely even remember the events of 5. 3 was pretty good, but for me the first two are the best.

edit: i cannot believe they are going all the way into a ninth installment. why!? so pointless!

I come for the gore and stays for the twists, saw 3 is my favorite. At least the series knows what it is...

i've seen them all, but i was only really impressed with the first one. i saw an extended preview for VI when i saw district 9 on friday and people kind of laughed afterwards at the absurdity of there being 6 of these shitty movies (and 7,8 are in preproduction) but i bet some of those people in the theater will contribute to the 30mil opening weekend this movie is guaranteed to have come october. thus, the financial appeal of sequels. i'd much rather pay money to see a unique scary movie, like the descent, or the strangers or even D9 than pay money to see any more of these. people say they want new and different, but these movies have and will always continue to make money (see the endless stream of bring it on/national lampoon/american pie spin offs-sequels).

I've only seen the first one, I vowed to never watch another after that because I hated it. A couple weeks ago I watched it again to see if my opinion changed and I enjoyed it more than the first time but I'm still not a huge fan though.

Not sure if I'll ever get around to checking the rest of the series out though.

I actually like the plot of saw, i'm pretty excited to see where it goes.
And the strangers was pretty good, but I would hardly consider it unique.
I wouldnt consider saw unique either though.

Yeah, I dont get all the hate for these movies. I'm not holding them up as high to say they're the best horror movies ever, but they're pretty good.

I wouldnt even really consider them horror, more like...crime drama.

Saw IV & V deff had a huge "crime drama" feel going for them. I really liked the duo of Danny Glover and that asian dude.

really? hm, i'd consider them both unique. strangers wasn't your typical slasher movie at all and don't even get me started on the descent. and yes, i think saw was unique in that it brought some thought to the horror genre (thus spawning 'american' torture porn as we know it, it may have also started with hostel and some others i cant think of at the moment). and call me a sucker, but i definitely didn't see that twist coming at the end of saw I, and it blew me away. so yes, i would consider those i mentioned before unique, but thats me.

I did this about a month ago, although I didn't have the stomach to do it all in one day, it was more a week long endeavor.

I can't say I was exactly as thrilled as you were. One is a good film no question, and 2 was decent, but after that its pretty much all down hill. 3 and 4 seemed like your average DTDVD offering, but 5 was pure unwatchable crap...even Tobin Bell seemed annoyed to be involved in that one.

I loved the strangers, it was a refreshing breath in terms of the other horror movies that were released that year, but i the concept of killings with no explanations isn't really unique. But thats one of my favorite things about that movie, there was no backstory to the killers, and of course liv tyler.

And i kind of forgot Saw came before hostel and all those other types. For some reason i thought hostel came first.

And I guess Saw does have a pretty unique theme and killer.

I didnt really care about the characters in one. I thought they were both annoying and I didnt care if they died, well, i did want the doctor to live since he had a family and shit. And jigsaw being in the middle of the room the whole time is pretty ingenious, but other than that i wasn't a huge fan.

The second one was awesome though in my opinion. I had no idea that amanda was in on it the whole time and the twist with the son at the end was so crazy, it left me speechless. Its deffinitly my favorite out of all of them.

Yeah the son part was pretty wild. I guess I just liked the first one more because sequels usually ruin things for me. I kinda saw the Amanda thing coming, but it wasn't bad I guess now that I think about it.
