View Full Version : Entertainment Forum's favorite movies of the decade

Since we only have a bit over 4 months remaining in this decade, I thought this would be an interesting thing to see what everyone on here would consider to be their favorite movies of the decade. I've been trying to formulate my own list lately, and was wondering what other people might think.
Try to make an ordered list of your favorites (think top 25ish), because if we get enough posts, I might try to make a cumulative list of the forum's favorites.
Oh god, its crazy to think how fast this decade went.

No kidding. I'm having some trouble making a list, though Lord of the Rings would be the clear number 1 for me...

good idea, but I will not be making mine until the end of the year
EDIT: I would also like to add that I think it would be interesting to pick your top ten favorite films from each year, use the number one from each year, make a list that way, and then compare it to this list.

We should structure it more like the golden globes and less like the Oscars, that way Zoolander can make it

For a similar idea, see this blog (http://thepopcorntrick.blogspot.com/2009/08/what-is-defining-movie-of-2000s-part-4.html) which is trying to find the movie that best 'defines' the past decade.

I won't finalize mine until the end of the year (I don't normally even think about year end lists for movies or music until the last week of the year), but I figured I'd get mine started now for a couple of reasons, 1 being that I need some time to think through all the movies I've loved over the decade and get them into a real ordered list, and 2 because I know there are a lot of great movies out there that I still haven't seen.
Agreed on the year by year list idea. That sounds interesting.
That and Dark Knight
I'm sure The Dark Knight will be high on many lists, though it won't be making mine. Good movie though it is, it is heavily overrated. Still, it's impossible to deny the importance of the film in this decade.
Almost Famous, hands down.
Probably making my top 3.

My year by year list (attempted)
2000: Finding Forrester/Almost Famous/High Fidelity (going to be hard choosing between those three for me)
2001: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002: The Two Towers
2003: The Return of the King
2004: Eternal Sunshine
2005: Sin City
2006: Casino Royale/Brick
2007: Zodiac
2008: The Wrestler
2009: Star Trek (probably, but I haven't seen so many things yet, that I'm not even making the statement)
The few lists that have been posted so far are making me realize just how many movies I missed and still need to check out, particularly from the beginning of the decade. Some great choices though.

I think the best movie made in the last 10 years would probably be The Dark Knight.
However, and I hate when people do this to a film as new as this, I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching a film in my life as I have with (500) Days of Summer. No movie has ever spoken to me so.
i'm so sick of the dark knight praise. it was a good movie, but not even the best from that year.
in my opinion, the best movie from the last decade is eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. charlie kaufman is a genious screenwriter, and michel gondry perfectly captured how dreams seem to work. it's crazy how well he was able to do that, i can't even describe my dreams right and he did AND put it on film.
also, jim carrey, kate winslet, mark ruffalo, and elijah wood are really, really good in this.

kiss kiss bang bang wasn't very good either. it was kind of funny, and mildly interesting. the best thing was the acting, but that doesn't make a good movie

it just depends on when you start your decade, if that makes sense. Take the 20s for instance, 1920 would be consider apart of the 20s but 1930 would most definitely not be. If you started this decade at the end of the 90s (2000) then this is the last year of the decade as it is the tenth year.

essentially 2000 - 2009 is considered a decade, but I agree I don't think anyone should be making lists until the end of this year beginning of next year

The Dark Knight really wasn't very good. Probably not even in the top 25 films of last year, and loses points for being hopelessly overrated. Eternal Sunshine is fucking incredible though. Definitely making my list.
Then let's just say "favorite film's of the 00's" and not use the word decade incorrectly
I consider the 00's a decade, just as I consider the 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's, 50's, 40's, 30's, and 20's decades. This decade ends at the end of this year, not even really sure how that's debatable.
As for the people who don't want to make lists yet, that's fair enough. I wasn't planning on finalizing mine until the end of the year anyway, I was just hoping for some conversation on what you expect your favorite films of the decade to be.

List threads:
4 movies that are decent, and is possible that I've enjoyed
3 movies I definitely didn't like or see, but am adding to let people think I'm cooler/smarter than I really am
3 movies that are so blatantly awful that it shows where my tastes truly lie.
also, this decade ends on December 31, 2009. You guys are retarded if you think otherwise.

Anyone else like 500 Days Of Summer enough to put it on one of their lists? I'll be interested to see what people's lists look like. I'm having trouble thinking back too far...I was like 6 or 7 in 2000...

And when you count, do you start with the number zero? I didn't think so.

When you refer to a decade, do you call it "9/10's of the 90's, and 1/10 of the 00's"? No, I didn't think so. Everybody, from major entertainment publications to most of the people on this very site are going to make their decade lists at the end of this year.
Back to the topic, Inglourious Basterds is sure as hell making my list.

Your argument doesn't even make sense. When I refer to this decade, I call it the millenium, because that started in '01. I call it the 90's, but it ended in 2000. Why? Because I count from 1 to 10, not 0-9. And because the 20th CENTURY ended with the year 2000, NOT 1999.

Well then you'd be technically incorrect in calling it the 90's, wouldn't you? If you don't want to participate, fine, just get the fuck out of this thread.

It's a vicious cycle that can only end with you, really.

Now that end of the decade lists have begun to pop out from various publications, I wondered if maybe it would be a good time to bump this. I'm still interested in making a list for this forum, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's beginning to come up with there own list.
