What is the (one of) most depressing song(s) to you? Why?
And to try to keep this from being one solid emo thread, what is one of your favorite songs to lift you up during rough times.
Over all most depressing/uplifting artist to you?

My number most depressing song that comes to mind is The Starting Line -Island.
Blink182 -Wendy Clear always seems to cheer me up.

Armor For Sleep is my meloncolie depressing band.
And Bomb the Music Industry is a band that never fails to get my mind off the BS.

Definitely agree on All of This.
But for me, one of my most depressing songs is 'Lover Dearest' by Marianas Trench.
They're not well known internationally, but up my way they are, and it's an amazing song.
or Anberlin's cover of 'Creep' by Radiohead, always gives me chills.
As for a depressing band, I've gotta agree with the one who said Brand New.

Island? Really? I mean, I read the description, but really? wow haha It makes me so...cheerful

My song would have to be The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows by Brand New...the video adds a lot to that
The two songs that always pump me up are And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman-DGD and Creatures For a While-311

Scary Kids Scaring Kids is the band I listen to when I'm down...specifically The City Sleeps In Flames album.
A Day to Remember is definitely one of the most up lifting bands ever...they sing so much about friends :)

Uplifting- Chemical Calisthenics -Blackalicious. haha it is a rap song about chemistry, how can you not smile?

Yes. This times a thousand.

Several of The Ergs! songs get to me. Specifically: Books About Miles Davis, Everything Falls Apart & More, Stinking of Whiskey Blues, and Upstairs/Downstairs. Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Dresden Dolls' - Delilah. Holy fuck.

Yup.

I think what one would consider a depressing song is unique to them, because certain songs have emotional ties to parts in their life that may of been rough. For example, I always get really sad when I listen to +44- Weatherman, due to the fact that I listened to that song alot during a rough point in my life.

most depressing song i have ever heard = I Love Creedence by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone...

I listen to Periphery or After the Burial to get me in a good mood.

For some reason everything in it's right place by Radiohead depresses the hell out of me. I don't know why.

I guess these are more exquisitely sad than depressing, but:

The Format - On Your Porch
Leonard Cohen - If It Be Your Will
Brand New - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
Averi - Goodnight, Goobye
Motion City Soundtrack - Hold Me Down
Paramore - Brick by Boring Brick
Jim Croce - Lover's Cross

And the most obvious choice:
Billie Holiday - Gloomy Sunday

Here are mine:

Type O Negative (this band have penned many depressing songs, so I'll list the tracks:

Bloody Kisses (A Death In The Family)
Suspended In Dusk
Red Water (Christmas Mourning)
Die With Me
Anaesthesia
Nettie
September Sun

And more or less all of the album 'World Coming Down'. So unaccessible.
Album was inspired by frontman Peter Steele's personal issues.

The title track from that same album is epic:

JN_BlF9Vtvw

Also other depressing and sad songs:

The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
The Smashing Pumpkins - Suffer
Stevie Nicks - Landslide
Paramore - We Are Broken (live version)
Candlemass - Of Stars And Smoke
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
The Offspring - Gone Away
Black Sabbath - Changes
Pink Floyd - High Hopes

Dashboard Confessional - Plain Morning
Dashboard Confessional - The Best Deceptions (very personal to me)

I'm surprised no one had mention I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie. That's one song that'll bum you out.

agreed. when the first line of a song is "love of mine, someday you will die"...it tends to be depressing.

for depressing i would have to say Deftones acoustic version of BE QUIET & DRIVE... idk if its the slick strumming or chino's icy voice but it just gets me.

for uplifting i would definatly have to say Mara & Me by SA
