View Full Version : A Band in an Ode

The morning spills onto their city.
Clouds crash like blood-shot cataracts
falling into a blink,
Like darkness rising from a vat of mirrors' cracks
and pointing me towards the morning.
Waking the sun with a do re mi of
building mountains out of idiot corpses
dug up from assholes and devil-caked soles
using the shovel I found on Proctor Rd.

From 24C I hear the shouts between Halloweens
of people hitting reset on over-heated consoles.

I’m not implying what I’ll imply in the morning,
but you never know what would happen if I were you
or you were me beneath the future tense of the murdered car-lights.
Watching their city collapse under one identity,
Watching the sun’s yawn make their eyes water,
We are one.

From 24C I hear the shouts between Halloweens
of people taking notice of the elephant in the room.

Pushing breaths into asphalt
when ticks and tocks reconcile.

Just a thought: You should write more like this, only with your words instead of The Matches words. It's far better poetry than unnatural and sometimes awkward big words.

Haha. I've been trying!

Does it do The Matches justice?

In a sense, because it puts so much from their songs together. I can't really give a critique since so much is theirs, which isn't bad, and it's not a bad piece, but ultimately I feel like you should focus on the diction you used here more so than anything else.

Understood.

I think I'll make this a Facebook note just to introduce them to more people.

Haha. Really, though, I wish you the best of luck. Is it lack of inspiration?

I don't even know. I've written like 8 shitty poems today, but I refuse to accept any of them as finished or even presentable.

Damn. I'm sure they couldn't have been that bad. Pray for a dramatic event that will jolt you back up to the poetic stratosphere?

I might type it up and throw it on here to see if there's anything salvageable. I don't want to think ALL of everything is bad. Sigh.

Sometimes I listen to Rachmaninoff and feel like I'm wasting my time writing because he said everything I wanted to say in his music. What a fucking genius.

Go ahead. It'd still be better than anything else posted on here.

Hmm. I'll have to check him out. Never paid much thought to classical music.

WHAT?!

I didn't, either, actually, until I read that Frank O'Hara was a classical music junkie and music major in college. Bukowski also wrote a lot about listening to classical, aaand since I'm a whore, I decided to leech off my favorites to find out what's up.

Hahaha. That's what I usually do. If I see that there's something associated with something/someone that I like, I'll totally check them out.

Oh, I started listening to Elliot Smith just the other day. Me likey.

Sonofabitch. My mental lapses are the worst. I feel like my poem is ruined now.

Fuck.
