View Full Version : AP Tip of the Day

I'd just like to remind all of our users of AP's thread subscription feature. It seems many of our users aren't aware of it. You can subscribe to a news thread by clicking on the "+" icon underneath the article, or any thread by selecting "Thread Tools." You can also set your options (http://www.absolutepunk.net/profile.php?do=editoptions) to subscribe by default to every thread you reply to. You can then view all your subscribed threads by accessing your user control panel (http://www.absolutepunk.net/usercp.php?) (which has recently gone under a major overhaul). This lists the most recent threads you're subscribed to, so you can keep track of all the responses people have said on any given thread you've posted in. By hovering your icon over where each topic says "Replies," you can see who posted last in the thread. By clicking on the arrow/page icon next to the replies link, you can go to the first unread post. This is an extremely useful link that I constantly use, as it skips you to the point in the thread where you last posted, or to the comment that you last viewed. To view all the threads you've subscribed to, simply click on the "view all (http://www.absolutepunk.net/subscription.php?do=viewsubscriptio n&folderid=all)" link. Hopefully these tips will help your posting expierence here at AP, I know I have learned to love the control panel and I couldn't operate without it! This feature makes it easy to keep track of where you've posted and it encourages discussion. The control panel can be found under the "Tools" menu at the top of the page.

It needs to go back to the old style though. It was better when you could see when the last reply was and by who.

- Jeff i agree. i dont really like the new format. its confusing to me. i liked the other set up better. especially that you could delete more than one thread subscription at a time instead of having to do it one at a time.
i dont subscribe cause i hate getting a million emails everytime i subscribe to something you can definately set it where you dont get emails in your user options.

I used that joke once.
"Every time I click on the 'Tools' link I expect to see a picture of Scott Weber pop up"
Not that I don't like him, he's just the member of staff I feel most comfortable joking about/with.

And I hate how it doesn't take you to the last page of the thread anymore. That came in handy for when you tried to view some of the larger threads. So I kind of hope the layout now is temporary.

That's my biggest beef, plus I just don't like the way it looks.

i've never had that problem personally, it's not hard to change.
go to tools, change options, and change your default thread subscription to "no email notification."

Uh, you can definetly select and delete more then one if you want ... click the box, go down, delete. Easy.

You can.
Did you change it since last night? It does look different, but it's still not as easy and convenient as it was before. I do like how you reorganized the links when you click Tools and along the left side though.

It's even easier, and more convenient then before - there's nothing on the new version that wasn't on the old.

Haha ok, thanks for making my opinion for me. I like how it bolded threads that had been replied to that I hadn't been to (much like if you go into a forum, it bolds the threads with new posts). The box-inside-a-box-inside-a-box layout is awful, too.

Tate, I have another question about the friends thing. One day all of my friends were wiped out, and now it says I have like 30 requests, but when I go to confirm the requests it brings me to a page that's like "There's a problem with the AP.net database."
It's been like this for a few weeks, I don't know what the deal is.

Read where it says "Important Bug Notice" on that page in bold and red text. That's why ...

It still does that ... I don't know what you're talking about. And there's one box - so you're stupid, blind, and an asshole. Go make a better website so no one can visit it and I can make fun of you for it ...

Oh wow.
Sorry, for some reason whenever I go to that page it automatically scrolls down. So I never really bothered to look up. Maybe its the browser. I feel stupid now, sorry. hah.

Your insults just keep piling up. I form an opinion on your web site and try to offer advice and you tear me down. I don't care if you like or agree with (or even see) my opinion, just don't tell me what I prefer or call me "stupid, blind, and an asshole." Can you stop being a dick to me, Jason? Seriously.
