St. John's College does rolling admissions so I'll apply there as soon as humanly possible and if I get in, I won't apply to anything else. But if I don't, I'll probably apply to Georgetown, maybe SUNY Albany...I dunno, I've really got my heart set on St. John's.

Have seen all the UC's, have visited NYU and BU as well.
Why would you do NYU ED? Horrible idea unless your daddy makes seven figures per year.
I've got my heart set on it. Plus I very much doubt I'd make it which prompted me to consider ED. My parents are willing to contribute a reasonable amount to my education if I got into a reputable school; otherwise I might very well be just throwing away money for trivial things, but I'm willing to tack on a bit of money for an investment which (hopefully) will give me a fulfilling experience the next 4 years.
Go here, kick it with me.
Hahaha, UCSB is the only UC that I'm truly interested in. The rest are just there to broaden my chances to get into a reasonably prestigious yet affordable school.
Just pumped out an essay. Shit flowed straight from my mind to the paper. Hopefully it'll be alright for the common app.

What are you planning on majoring in? As a heads up, Tufts was my top choice but the kids that go there are so weird. I don't really know how to describe it, but everyone I know who goes there and everyone I know who knows someone there are basically a bunch of annoying people that think they're awesome because they got into Tufts, but they're really socially awkward and stuff. Again, not really sure how to describe it.. but meh.
Come to BU, all of you! If your family isn't rich (see: middle class) they give you a ton of financial aid. The programs are great and they love research and stuff. I basically live on Harvard's campus now (wanted to move off campus but somewhere really nice and affordable, and not in shitty Allston) and I would personally never go there. I just don't like the way they do things. However, you'll have a Harvard degree which means you won't have problems with getting jobs or anything. Also: there are so many pretty girls at BU. Not so many pretty guys (many pretty gay guys, but little attractive straight males) so.. if you're a straight male, you will get girls. This is a fact. I don't know how many times I heard girls on my floor talk about guys they normally wouldn't go for but were fighting after because "it's BU." Ladies, no worries - MIT frats are closer than BU frats and there are a ton of other schools around as well. Not only is BU huge, but Boston is full of students so you never have to worry about not finding people you'll be friends with.
Okay. Excuse my ranting. Good luck everyone. I highly recommend applying to at least one place (if possible: a safety or a good fit) early / with rolling admissions just so you know you'll be going SOMEWHERE by December/January. Most schools won't let you know if you're in or not until the very end of March, and there's little more frustrating than everyone you know being accepted somewhere and you still not having any idea for a few months.

No joke. MIT kids know how to party. It's sort of one of those "you have to see it to believe it" type deals. I think the stereotype is that they're all really smart and they know how to throw a good party, but they're clueless when it comes to being "normal." That said, girls and guys from other Boston schools all come to the MIT frats so you aren't really stuck with just awkward MIT kids.

Apply early to Northeastern. At least 30 kids from my high school (no, seriously) do this and I'd estimate 29/30 of them get in. Probably about 12 end up going, counting kids who applied and got in regular decision. From what I've seen first hand, the acceptance rate is much lower applying "normally." By that, I mean that people that are much more qualified (better GPA, SATs, etc) might get wait listed or flat out rejected whereas say.. even underqualifed kids who got in no problem early acceptance.

I hate how so many people can afford to apply to like 15 universities and go to whichever they choose, even if they are far away from home.
I applied to two, Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. Got accepted to both, but chose SFU because I was offered a $24,000 scholarship. Full-ride ftw. Can't afford to stay in residence, but at least I won't end up with any student loans.

Probably, haha. I'm originally from Franklin (MA) and I know my friend from Reading had the same results - where a ton of seniors apply and get in, no problem. As long as your grades and everything are decent, you shouldn't have a problem getting in. And in a worst case scenario, they'll defer you to regular decision.. it's pretty rare that they'll flat out reject you early acceptance.

Anyone know anyone who goes to the University of Mary Washington? The coach has been calling me a lot as of late.

Go BU! I've only been here for like 2 weeks and I love it. There's a ton of awesome people and the location is perfect. I'm probably going to try to move off-campus next year or my junior year though because I think it'd actually be cheaper to do that than live in a dorm. Other than that, it's amazing.

Well, I'm from Lowell/have lived here all of my life so personally, I'd rather (literally) jump out of a window than go to UML, but both are good schools.
I don't know how much it matters to you, but I really want to go to a school with an actual campus, haha. Amherst has that, but Lowell doesn't. There are basically two campuses in Lowell, and you have to take a bus to get from one to the other. I enjoy Amherst's campus, but depending on who you talk to, you'll get different responses. Most of the negativity surrounds around one of the dorms. It's a tower/resembles a prison, but I mean, it's a pretty big campus and there are a lot of other dorms, so I don't know what the big deal is. UMA is also known for being a party school, but it's not like you don't have the option of avoiding/embracing that scene.
As far as location comes into play, Amherst is kind of in the middle of nowhere. I'm in Amherst a lot, because my brother goes there. Personally, I like the town; I think it has a nice atmosphere, haha. Lowell's a lot closer to Boston, if that matters. Lowell isn't very exciting, btw. Now that I think about it, it really does depend on who you talk to... Some people like UMass, some don't. But yeah. Grade-wise, I'm pretty sure it's easier to get into UML. Lately it's been getting harder to get in UMA, actually. So far it looks as though I'm going to end up there, though.
Sorry if this wasn't helpful. I'm a big rambler.
Where else are you applying? Is there a reason for the east coast schools?

I've got my recommendations, resume, two essays (need to do a couple more), and like 85% of all my applications done. But like someone else said, I'm clueless about this financial aid business.
Also, I still need to visit a ton of schools. But I have no car/no license, parents who are working/out all the time, and friends that are applying to completely different schools so have no interest in driving me/going with me. So yeah, haha.

Right because OSU is a bad school. The average ACT score there is 26, hardly poor compared to most state schools and some private schools. And it isn't particularly cheap either, so that argument doesn't work.
They aren't lazy or poor just because they want to go to Ohio State.

Is there a reason why U.S. students apply to so many universities? Here in Canada the most anyone ever applies to is like five. Is there not an application fee for American schools?
I'm applying to/have applied to:
Saint Francis Xavier - Antigonish, NS
Saint Mary's University - Halifax, NS
Carleton University - Ottawa, ON
University of New Brunswick Saint John - Saint John, NB
University of King's College - Halifax, NS
Word. DC would be a kickin place to live
yeahh i used to live there actually. apprently ive been to the school alot i just dont remember it. what does the early decision 2 mean?

What do you guys think of this for my personal statement, "I don't give a fuck whether you accept me or not." I think it will set me apart from all the other applicants, but is it too edgy?

Is this a serious question?

Yeah I originally wanted an actual campus but I kind of got over that when I realized how awesome it would be to spend my college years in a city. I don't find out until like april because it's early decision two... my deadline to submit the app isn't until january. Sigh

I was accepted on-site to Rowan University. I have applied to The College of NJ, Montclair State University, Rutgers University, and will soon be done applying to NYU. That's all so far, haha.

Temple gave me my decision 24 hours after getting my transcripts. Got accepted. Stoked.

Well, from what I've heard, very few graduates end up really doing anything with their degrees. Can't say I know first hand though.

I can't speak first hand of the quality of the school since I don't go there but I have an opinion on it.
Full Sail, Devry, ITT, etc may well have a decent enough program (to my knowledge they aren't really great in any one program compared to other schools) the degree won't be respected as well as from a more traditional school with a similar quality program.
Also, some of what they offer can be taken at a community college or local branch of a state school for a pretty substantial savings.
I never really looked into them though since I was always set on the degree path I am now. (Majoring in Marketing with a minor in Business Mgmt, perhaps law school.

Added Drexel and University of South Carolina to my list last weekend. Frantically trying to write the USC essay right now because I'm going away in...4 hours...and the Honors college essay is due the 15th.

On top of that all of the above colleges usually end up being as or more expensive as a really really good private university.
