Does anyone else have ridiculous summer assignments?
I really haven't complained in the past, but this summer I was supposed to read 6 novels, and complete various essays/projects on each.
All but two were good reads, but it really bugs me.

For my AP english class we were given four books that we're supposed to read, but they're actually due throughout the year, so I'm only reading the book due in Sept.

I had to:
- Read The Cider House Rules and do a reading log with one entry for every 10 pages [book is 580 something]
- ReadBrave New World, reading log
- Read Lord of the Flies and prepare a PowerPoint presentation comparing and contrasting the characters of Ralph and Jack
- Read The House on Mango Street and write, in essay form, about the themes of the novel
- Read Kaffir Boy, and write, in essay form, about an article from recent news that is similar to what happened in the novel
- Read The March of Folly and write, in extended essay form, about the novel.
- Notes on 70-something pages of AP Euro History stuff
AND college application essays. Shit.
I am pretty sure they made this illegal in my province a year or two ago, which makes sense. Summer is for being outside, not school :-)

Do you go to a private school? Cause I'm pretty sure this shit wouldn't fly in public school.

Still can't believe some places give summer assignments. Absolutely blows my mind.

Mine is usually pretty bad since I take honors/AP and whatever, but this year at the very last minute some of the books on the list got taken off because they were deemed "inappropriate" and so we got off the hook with just choosing two books off a list and then essays for each of them, and then another book for AP English and weekly assignments for that. Not bad at all.

read 5 books
essay comparing three of the books
book review of one of the books
nothing on the other book
respond to 5 new york times articles
could be much worse...i hate writing over the summer and some of the stuff i write just doesn't feel right but i'm too lazy to try and change it
my only summer assignment is this horrible AP government book. I tried starting it a few weeks ago, got about 30 pages through and can go no longer. Soo boring. I really doubt i will finish this book in time for school on the 2nd.

I never really got that much summer work in high school. It was usually just reading a book and answering some questions on it. Senior year we were allowed to choose our own book and half the class did Harry Potter. Some kid didn't even read it or watch the movie and just made it up on the spot after hearing other people read their reports to the class :-d

I have to read four books, and they'll give us the assignments once school starts. Either that or quiz us.

I have to read...
- Pride & Prejudice
- The Kite Runner
- Cry, The Beloved Country
- Prey
And also, code a program for AP Computer Science (I have no idea what I'm doing).
And make two chapters worth of flash cards for AP Psych (They are long chapters).
And read Epic Journey: The 2008 Elections and American Politics and outline it.
AND do a math packet for Calc.
Uhg. I have a week to do all this.
