I used to really like bands that are composed of mostly screaming but I am now starting to dislike many of them. I just wanted to ask what you guys think about them, and when they are or aren't acceptable.

Some bands do it alright. Avey Tare and Black Francis are two screamers who come to mind who I adore. Jerome's Dream did some cool stuff too, back when the guy's voice still worked lol

I really used to listen to all sorts of bands with screaming. But as of now, bands such as Underoath (and that similar style) I can't really stand to listen to. I really like stuff like This Is Hell and Verse, and if you count the ole mewithoutYou stuff as screaming. I dunno, I just want to hear what other people think about it as a whole.

Depends, most screamed stuff sucks, but when it's used well it's fine.

Blood Brothers are great.
Depends on what kind of screaming. La Dispute is mainly screaming I guess, and I love them.

It depends, like Alexisonfire I could listen to them all day because they know how to mix regular singing vocals with screaming. Its like both rough and smooth.

Screaming is as broad a term as singing. By some people's standards, Jesse Lacey screams. By others, they think Spencer Chamberlain is "real" screaming (whatever the hell "real" screaming is anyways).

You live in Tallahassee and you listen to some of my favorite bands, who are you!?
Underoath is one of the only bands I can listen to with screaming vocals. Maybe Memphis May Fire too but that's about it.

Any sound in music is "acceptable" and can be done well. Screaming included.

I only like it when it's very limited and used effectively.
Example: Take This To Your Grave

most screamers have nothing worth yelling about.
Love it if it's done right, which doesn't happen too often.

Like I said, Avey is one of the few who can pull it off and not sound like ass.

depends on the scream
i don't like the real unnatural screaming. I like when it sounds natural (cobain, black francis, etc)

Bands like Glassjaw and Dillinger Escape Plan do it really well, but recently screaming in bands has become just plain awful. Take Brokencyde, for example, how on earth can anyone sound that bad?

Overused. I used to think vocalists screamed when they actually felt something, were caught up in the moment. Now it's just a style.

see for me its not really the sound of the screamer its all about delivery... like if the screamer doesn't have the ooomp to it i just picture a guy/girl screamin in an empty room and i find that shit pretty weird..... i dislike bands who arrr fools (brokencyde...)

I like screaming the way Jesse does it. Kind of like.. hoarse yelling, or something. I've gotten kind of bored of bands where all the vocals are screamed. I like when it has emotion behind it.

I have never cared for bands that just scream all the time. I personally prefer to understand the lyrics being sang.
Rise Against! It's not like incoherent screaming, but he def. is straining his voice like in "Give it All"...which is an sick song.....what I find more amazing is how good he sounds acoustic....or how Aaron from Underoath can do that...and then have such a good strong voice in The Almost...those peoples vocal cords are crazy....

I lke screaming vocals, but only in a minimal quantity.
I can't stand those bands with 90% percent of screaming vocals, unless that band is Every Time I Die or, maybe, Underoath.
