My school has a good number of International Students. Some of them say they hate america/bush/whatever...I find this extremely hypocritical, since they are here as guests of this country, to recieve an education. and if it is a public college, our tax dollars are helping to pay for that education. I was curious what the opinions are of the international students at other colleges?

I'm not sure how they feel, but I do know that many people at my school are against the war. I personally don't know any foreign students, so I can't say. I'll pick up the school paper tomorrow (possibly the most libral news I have ever read) and see what's going on.

everyone is entitled to their opinion, do i feel it is hypocritical, not really, they are coming to this country to get an education, not because they agree with our government, i have talked to one international student who was actually born in iraq, she was sharing some horrible stories about the trauma her family went through while living there

it is hypocritical because they are using this country that they hate to give themselves more oppurtunities. they should be thankful to this country that they are given that chance. that isn't to say that they have to agree with everything the US does, but they shouldn't hate the country that is giving them a chance at a better life...

They most likely don't hate America as much as they probably hate the Bush Administration. And since the Bush Administration is not America, they arn't hypocrits. They don't have to love or even tolerate our president, just as the average American citizen doesn't have too either. And if they say they actually hate America, someone better educate them on the fact that America is not at war with Iraq - the President is.

dose anybody else find it ironic, that the united states, a country which prides itself on "equal" rights dosn't feel that that international students should have the right to complain? The great thing about equal rights is that they apply to everybody. Not just a select few.

i didn't say they didn't have a right to complain... but why would they say "I hate America" if they want to come here so bad? Would someone who "hates" france want to go to school in Paris and then complain all the time he was there?

The reason they go to america is to get a decent education, to better their lives, and those of their countrymen, not nessesarily because the love america so much.

But how can we offer such great things if we're such an evil country? And if there countries are so great why cant they offer the same things?

while i won't act like i know why they come here and then complain, i will suggest before we get to far in that direction, that the united states is hardly the only counrty that offers great educational opportunities, and that does include the middle east. two of my professors who have big time credentials, as far as their education goes, were offered jobs in middle eastern countries that they both strongly conisidered.

i think that far too often, especially on this board, we think that america is the only country that makes certain offerings and that's not the case.

now back to the topic:
i personally don't see their opinion as being a problem. we're all entitled to one. and the discussion that those opinions, when well thought out, can lead to at an institution of higher learning are part of what makes the experience great.

Thats not always true, most of the 9/11 bombers were educated in america, because there backwater countries didn't offer the education they needed to learn how to fly. And they hated america.

Yes, america isn't the only country that offers good higher eductation, but we are one of the few countries that has such easy accuses to it, there are very few requirements that we have to meet, unlike in europe, to go to college.

look, i never said they didn't have the right to complain, everyone has the right to their opinion. and if what they really mean is that they hate our government's policies, they should say that, they shouldn't say that they hate a country that is giving them an oppurtunity for a better life. they come here, go to our schools, enjoy all the freedoms that americans are entitled to, yet say that they hate our country...it just seems hypocritical to me. like i said before, if I hate the french, i'm not going to go to college in paris and walk around saying how much I hate the french, i'd find a different school to go to in a different country.

That was a pretty good read, although there were parts that i didn't agree with and that would be hard pressed to prove (although it was mostly in one paragraph).

I personally think that the Muslim religion has more to do with there hatred of us, rager then there education.
