View Full Version : Detroit Tigers...Fluke or no?

So far...
Their first 5 games they have outscored their opponents in the first inning 9-0.
Their team ERA 2.31, better than the Mariners and Yankees pitching.
First basemen Chris Shelton is 14 for 19 (.737 BA) with 5 home runs and 2 triples in the first 5 games.
Based on their line-up, pitching and hitting, make your predictions.

I hope they stay real hot... but I know their hitting won't stay this consistent. I think their pitching staff is young (with the exception of Rogers) and can really hurl the ball. I think they will finish above .500 for the first time in however many years, but I don't see them in the playoffs because of the division they play. But, I hope to God I'm wrong, because this is a good team.

they'll flame out. i don't see them making the playoffs.
hot start, and they're playing great. which is awesome. i just see them slowing down and the rest of the league picking up.

Detroit may be the new hotness though. I can see them being a bandwagon team for sure. Look at the ChiSox...they didn't have a single all star and look where they went. I think they may be able to hold their own.

indians have a real good chance of making the playoffs. tigers won't this year.

Absolute fluke. Their opponenents thusfar have been the bottom-of-the-barrel Royals and the annually mediocre-at-best Rangers. This will be the longest win streak of their season and they will quickly return to a possibly .500 team.

yeah, I love Chris Shelton but the Tigers aren't making the playoffs. The pitching is too thin. I do think they can finish 2nd though, since I believe the ChiSox had a fluke year and Minnesota can't hit. There's no way they keep up with Cleveland though.

yeah chris shelton is definitely gonna continue to hit .800

They're going to fade off, but they'll probably stay hot for a little while.

whether or not the tigers collapse, i'd still bank on the Indians winning this division by 10 games.

why do people think the indians and their no pitching are gonna win this division?

the pitching isnt bad. c.c going down hurt them, but jake westbrook, cliff lee and paul byrd are solid. Westbrook already took care of the Chi Sox. Plus, the Chi Sox are probably the most overrated team in the league. Everything came together for them last year, with pitching and offense. I expect Contreras, Jenks, Garland, Konerko, Dye, Garcia and Hermanson to fall off considerably.
Cleveland can win 92-95 games again w/ ease considering the lineup they have and the pitching/bullpen being good enough not to screw things up. I don't think there's another team in that division that will finish more then a few games above .500

the Dodgers started out like 14-2 last year...i think explains enough there.
another stat that i saw on espn this morning... 16hr in 4 games.... thats pretty impressive

I'm a tigers fan and i don't see them contending. my guess is above .500, which would be a great season. we're still a year, another emerging consistent starter, consistent closer, and another left handed power hitter away.

haha, bigmike hit it right on the head
emerging consistent starter: Justin Verlander
consistent closer: I'll settle for set-up man, Joel Zumaya
left handed power hitter: Marcus Thames (OK, he's right handed, but he's still a power hitter, regardless of which side he bats)

well that was just completely unnecessary.

yeah, and I recall being one of the few people defending Detroit around midseason after they continued to play well. It was the 1st week of the season and Detroit came out of nowhere ..of course everyone is going to assume they aren't legit.
