View Full Version : Where do you get your music from?

I'm having trouble finding places to download newer music. Limewire doesn't really have a great selection of newer, less mainstream stuff. So unless I find it on here, I don't have anywhere to download newer music.
My question is, where do you get your music from?

From music stores. Can you believe that!?

yo you're cool Genuma.
and FullCollapse, idk if you mean physical music stores or not. But where I live, we don't really have many. And if you mean digital, I only use iTunes when I get gift cards to it.
So, there ya go. =0 gamel

I actually go buy physical copies of CD's from music stores. Unfortunately it's mainly from big stores (Best Buy, FYE) so it's overpriced. Sometimes I go to my local used CD store or Amoeba.
It's shocking, I know.

If there are no record stores near you, order shit from bands/labels webstores. Usually cheaper, and they more often than not throw in some great freebies.

At first, torrents and various places on the internet. But I end up buying every CD I like.
this bird sings some pretty kick arse tunes out my window every morning.
nah i like walking in to cool shops in the city and they play like...indie experimental shiz that i've never ever heard in my life before. and then i try and search up lyrics and find the bands. rarely works.
this site is pretty good. and last.fm.
and some magazines.

Yeah I second this site. Last.fm is alright, Pandora is even better for finding new music.

Half Price Books, Best Buy, and/or Exclusive normally have the albums I'm looking for.
Sometimes, if I want a more popular album I'll order it from the library catalog and it's free. I find it funny that no one I know has figured out to do that yet.

I usually buy it if it's from bands I already know/like, but if it's something I'm just checking out, I'll get it off mediafire or something so I don't waste my money on something I might not like. If I do like, I end up buying it, going to a show of theirs, etc.

I do buy everything I like off of iTunes when i get giftcards. What i'm having trouble with is finding music I like. So i need places to find new music. Thanks to the people who got that.

At the concert
just search the album you want into google and just add ".zip" or ".rar" after it. Simple. Works every time.

Right? My new years resolution was to not illegally download music anymore, and believe it or not i haven't this entire year. It feels great. I buy a few CDs on impulse, but you can usually tell if you will like a band from their myspace, purevolume etc...
I'm not gonna hate on those that download, but it does feel good to support bands.

I use Bull Moose Music in Maine. They have a point system that allows for a future purchase at half price when you have the same number of points that the purchase costs. You can usually special order a lot new or used there, and it's a decent service. They don't have everything, but they do have the most and best selection of anything around.
I use Newbury Comics at times, usually for first week sale prices, though they often don't have the advertised disc in the store, and you can't order things there, and they never seem to care anyways.
Other than that, I frequent a number of album blogspots. Maybe ninety percent of what I look for I can find. At google, just type the band name then the words "album blogspot" or the band name, album title, and then the words "album blogspot." It will take to you useful places. from one, you can usually link to others. Always check the quality though, most of the time it's good, but occasionally there's a bad or poor quality rip.

Definitely. I mean, it's our hard earned money, of course we need to sample before we buy.

I try to buy atleast two, if not, more CDs a paycheck. I feel like I'm not giving the artist anything if I buy it used though, so I try to go with new.
