Lately I've been listening to Valencia and The Dangerous Summer. I'm not normally into that kind of music but they are very good. Can anybody suggest some similar bands that are really good?

If you're looking for bands that are comparable to Valencia and TDS, Jimmy Eat World and The Starting Line are the first places to start. I'm honestly not a fan of TDS, and Valencia's last record was somewhat of a letdown for me, but the sound that Valencia put into "This Could Be a Possibility" lies between the JEW/TSL sound and that of early New Found Glory; plus, I know that TDS has been compared to TSL almost endlessly since "Reach for the Sun" released.
If you're going for TSL, "Direction" and "Based on a True Story" are gonna be more of what you're looking for than "Say It Like You Mean It"; SILYMI is more well known, but it's a different sound than the others. For JEW, try "Bleed American" and "Chase This Light". Not necessarily their best, but soundwise it's the closest to what you want.
Other than that? Motion City Soundtrack, early The Juliana Theory, The Jealous Sound, some Mae, and some Saves the Day. If you've picked up Valencia's first album, New Found Glory would also be a good choice.

haha, yeah i know... but the bands they mentioned are pop-punk so i wasn't sure if that's what they were looking for.

I'm trying to slow it up a little bit because I don't want to burn out on it. I just grabbed 3EB and Mutemath's new albums, so I'm going to throw those in with the Jakes. I've done a lot of switching between the Jakes and Phoenix for the past month.

You definitely won't be disappointed with the new Mutemath, I've been listening to it quite a lot since I bought it. Haven't really listened to 3EB yet, but I really like what I've heard so far.

I heard the new Mutemath is nothing like the old one. I did love the spotlight EP, but I'm interested to see how different it is from the first release. I just got an early review of the new 3eb from a close friend of mine and he described it as "right out of the gate sounding like the album is going to be the best thing you've ever heard until the first third of the album is done at which point it sinks into a mellow representation of subpar 3eb material." I'm definitely not vouching for his description as I haven't heard it, but it makes my expectations pretty low as of now.

It's really not, but it's really, really good. I loved the Spotlight EP as well, and I love the full length. And dang, that sounds like a pretty rapid change. The most I've done with that one is put it on my computer, so I haven't actually listened to any of it yet. I hope that's not the case, but I guess I'll be prepared now if it is. If you happen to listen to it before me, let me know what you think of it. I probably won't get a chance this week, so if you hear it before Friday, I probably haven't heard it yet. Classes and work take all of my time now...

Ok, so new mutemath - INCREDIBLE. I can't get enough. Exactly what I was hoping for and more. As for 3eb... I really don't like it. I'm trying to give it a chance... but it's just not doing it for me. Have you listened yet?
Wow a weird definition of pop bands right here in this topic :-|

I know, isn't it?! I can't even count how many times I've listened to it. It's at least once a day, so good! And yeah, I did listen to the Third Eye Blind cd. I mean, I like some songs, but the majority of it I just skip over...I feel like I kind of wasted my money.

Me too. I'm glad I supported them, but can't believe it took this long to put this out. I just picked up another set of albums, so those are now in m queue of things to listen to. I'm just alternating new stuff with Mutemath and phoenix now!

I know! I have pretty much the same situation right now. I bought a bunch of albums last week because I got paid, but I've been so into that one that I haven't really listened to any of the new ones yet. I need to work that out!
