I'm really liking the new song on their Purevolume.
Yeah. It's getting better with each listen.

I'm getting a new Hundred Hands feel from this. I hope this is better than last year's album. I was so disappointed with the tracklisting last year. It was way too short.

If you're talking about the Interludes, those weren't supposed to be songs really. They said they are just "experiments in pitch and frequencies".

The new song is pretty incredible.
Also i strongly, strongly encourage everyone to look at their influences in the "Culture" section of their website.
You will deffinately learn a thing or two.

Last month or so when they updated their website, I saw that huge list of their influences and have only heard half of that list so far. It blows my mind. I just pre-ordered their upcoming album with a free t-shirt last week. I am really looking forward to this.

He's on Skullflower and he's on one other song. That's what I heard, but I find it slightly unbelievable. I was hearing that each (three, I think) vocalist had two songs apeice, however the album is thirteen tracks long. So I dunno. Can't wait for this to drop, though; it's gonna be one hell of an album.

And who are they?
Them, Rich Balling, and Matt Embree. Though I don't think they have songs to themselves.

As far as I know, Rich Balling (The Nightingale), Anthony Green (The Skunk ), Craig Owens (don't know the animal yet), and Keith Goodwin (don't know the animal yet) do vocals. Matt just plays guitar.

I just finished streaming their entire new album. It does not suck, but it is the most disappointing, most anticipating album this year so far. I am pretty upset about this compared to Tiger and The Duke.

For those wondering:
Lover, The Lord Has Left Us... is the follow-up album from progressive rock amalgam The Sound of Animals Fighting, whose 2005 Tiger and the Duke was a milestone on the road of experimental music. Lover's expansion into alternative genres, alternative sounds, and alternative media qualifies TSOAF, further this time, as a major pioneering entity in the search for new modes of musical expression and meaning. New (the Ram, the Penguin and the Wolf?) and returning (the Hyena, the Nightingale, the Walrus, the Lynx and the Skunk) animals alike add their own infusion, sensibilities and particular steps, each given a day to complete their piece of the final structure, working remotely and adding subsequent layers of their own invention to the highly organic project. The result is a candid, ubiquitous concert of musical talent, inspiration, spontaneity and collaboration that lets the taste of each artist combine and marinate, adding a complexity and a depth to each track that would not exist without both complimenting, and being complimented by, the other tracks on the album. Lover, The Lord Has Left Us... was produced and spearheaded by returning animals the Nightingale and the Walrus, who guided the project between a slew of sounds and people, steering the craft of Lover into waters outside of those of Tiger, employing and manipulating classical elements against the more inventive ones. A blind order begins to appear in the map-less improvisations, and a veil of seemingly chaotic sounds is shed to reveal subtle harmonies of ideas and style.
A chorus will shine even brighter against a background of looped kitchen noises, the tired and tireless vocals of the returning Skunk sway earnestly to and fro, climaxing in desperate, haunting peaks, and ancient Sanskrit vocals dance over an undertow of raspy, electronic beats. The entire album, in fact, is built from the drumbeat up, a method that creates a profound contrast between vocalist and beat, a beautiful push and pull that surfaces in tracks like "This Heat" featuring the vocals of the Penguin, augments the ethereal melodies of the Wolf? and ties a softness and warmth to the aggressive heights of the Ram.

personally, i really enjoy both albums
but i can't believe how many people who once loved this band have turned their backs on them already
just because they didn't enjoy this album as much
whatever happened to a bit of loyalty to a band?

04/23/06, 12:48 AM

as in when a band puts out one sub-par album
a lot of people jump ship and hate on them all of a sudden
despite usually owning and loving the rest of the bands albums
i just don't get it

I haven't turned my back on them. They're still one of my favorite bands. I guess I just don't understand half of Lover... I enjoy the tracks with Anthony, Keith, and the guy from the Autumns.

And I've said this once and I'll say it again--I'm all for experimentation, but this is just taking it too far and almost crosses the line between what is music and what's just...noise.

TSOAF are one of the most intelligent bands out there right now. I can understand not liking them but they NEED to be appreciate. With influences like Merzbow, Zorn, and This Heat. This band can't be bad.

This isn't supossed to sound like every other band dickbite. I mean they made that pretty clear, some of this album is noise, but that's the beauty in it.

No shit it's not supposed to be like every other band--I could tell that from just listening to it. Just because a band is "original" doesn't make them amazing or at-all accessible, and too many people including you think that is the case.

ive heard almost the whole album and let me tell you. it is weird as fuck. I am missing 2 tracks from it, and i really only like one song which is horses in the sky with craig from chiodos. The song with keith from days away is okay. It is completely different from tiger and the duke. it is all techno with drum beats. A little too progressive if you ask me.

I really don't like a couple of songs (the two acapella ones with the girl, and the last song, even though I understand it's point), but the rest of the album, minus some obnoxious noises here and there, is rpetty good. It keeps growing on me, but I'm in love with 5ish songs. Maybe the rest will keep growing on me.
i hate chiodos so anything with their singer are the songs i won't like.
