View Full Version : Wanna Be A Mod?

Ok, so with the expansion of the forums into these separate genre forums, we need more moderators here at AbsolutePunk.net. This is how it's gonna work: we have 9 new forums (Punk, Emo, Rock, Alternative, Acoustic, Pop, Electronic/Dance, Hardcore, and General Music), so we need 9 new mods. To apply, give a brief few sentences on why you want to be a mod and why do you want to be a mod of this specific genre forum (if you like hardcore, apply for hardcore, not pop). We want mods who won't be dicks for no reason and will contribute positivity and good discussion in their specific forum, as well as the other forums. I will be taking "applications" until next Tuesday (4/18). Then, the AP.net staff will vote and select the 9 new mods. So good luck!

This thread is to specifically apply to be the Pop Forum moderator. Please post your applications here.

FAQs:
1. You will only have mod power for your specific forum. We are not looking for any new General Forum mods.
2. You can apply for more than one forum to moderate, but you will only get one of the forums to mod.
3. Please do not PM me your applications, please post them in the application thread in the forum you want to moderate.

Thanks, hope this clears up any confusion.

I'd love to be the Pop Forum Moderator.

When I see a Moderator or Staff Member's name in color, I automatically think of respect. Respect for bands, and respect for other AP members. Respect is one quality that is more important to me than any other. Since Pop/Pop-Punk/Pop-Rock is my genre of choice, I believe that the moderator of this forum in particular should be someone who will do everything in their power to keep it respectful.

I essentially live on this website. The Pop Forum has become my most-visited forum since it's inception, and it will stay that way.

I'm not going to sit here and list off my credentials, or name off the various bands I listen to. You probably won't use that as a factor in the selection. Just know that I may not have been here the longest... I may not know the most people here.... and I may not know everything there is to know about pop, but I'm level-headed and fair, and these are things necessary in a Moderator.

If I'm chosen as the Moderator, my aim will be to make this forum as infectious as the music it covers.

Thank you.

-Adam

I would love to apply for a moderator position

first, the resume:
-ive moderated on over a dozen sites related to music, comics, games and books, since 2002

-I was a former metal/top 200 music assistant, and director of a college radio station that did not play college rock. as such, I have a broad and very eclectic (ooh, big words) taste in music, which has changed from narrow minded loves of the "scene" to an enjoyment of all things musical

-of all the genres i listen to, most of it can be called pop/pop-rock et al, so while I know a little about a lot, much of it falls under this style rather than what is commonly called "punk", "emo" and the like. In the end, pop and rock fly hand in hand, and its what I enjoy.

that said, I'm on here a lot, I talk a lot, and I make friends easily.

i guess thats what I have to offer for now...if you need more, let me know.

What is pop music? What is pop-rock? What is pop-punk?

I know these questions are on many peoples minds. I think that some good discussion could come out of these questions when we consdier all that they entail. I also think that I would be a great fit to facilitate discussion on said matters. Ever since I discovered music I have been listening to pop music. Bands like MxPx in the early stages of pop-punk's rising (Teenage Politics) to the radio bands we have grown up with and come to love (Third Eye Blind). Through the years I have followed the pop genre in all it's different outbursts. Even today my itunes is packed with bands such as said, MxPx, Third Eye Blind, Relient K, Blink 182, Ben Folds, Vertical Horizon, Brandtson, Copeland, John Mayer, Jason Mraz and even Kelly Clarkson.

I also feel I qualify as I usually spend a few hours a day on ap.net. I am always browsing the forums and reading up on the news. I am always friendly and have made a few good friends here on ap.net. Although I've had differences with people over my time here, we've always been able to work things out and I don't believe that I have any bad blood with anyone here on ap.net. I also know the responsibilities that it takes to be a mod, and know that they come before a friendship when the two clash. I believe that I would make a great mod for the pop forum. I hope this wasn't too long and thank you for reading.

I can't believe this was posted. I was just wondering this morning how I could get involved with this site--such timing.

*I would love to moderate the Pop forum. At present, I am interning at a major record label in the pop/rock marketing department, so I am continually immersed in the pop music of this label and its several indie affiliates.

*The vast majority of music I listen to on my own time constitutes indie pop.

*I'm well spoken, with strong communication skills. You'll find that, between topics and responses, I can do a lot to facilitate productive, entertaining discussion on the threads.

*I visit absolutepunk 5-10 times a day. I love this site.

*Lastly, AP.net needs some more female perspectives. :-D

Thanks so much!
Chelsea

I'd mod. Whenever arguments break out I'm generally very neutral and I know when and why a thread should be deleted, I won't do it because I disagree with a member or that I don't like them and I won't refrain from doing it if a well liked member is causing the troubles. and I love shitty pop music.

That is all.

why i should be mod of the Pop Forum

-i have been on the site for over 3 years now. the only time i was banned or gotten in trouble was Audioboxers went on a random banning spree. so i did nothing to earn that ban. so in other words i have a clean record of over 3 years. and with all that time i have learned so much on how a forum should be run and operated.(eda is a great example of a good mod). i also learned how not to run a forum(thanks audioboxers and ex-mods who went to knifeparty). i think i have paid my dues to the site and would be honored to be a mod for the site.

-ask anyone in the general forum what my favorite music is. i am known as the kid who only loves pop punk. now it's not true i ONLY listen to pop punk of course. but the majority of the bands that i listen to and love are of the pop punk genre. i would be able to keep this part of the forum happy because i too love pop punk and wouldn't bash anyone for liking less popular pop punk. for example: Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, etc... i listen to all the pop punk i can get my hands on. i don't care if their latest record made everyone hate them. if their first CD is excellent i will love it.

-experience:i have had one mod job before. i was a mod at knifeparty for awhile. i was in charge of the personal expression forum. i ran it for a few months and kept it under control and peaceful. i then left because i decided to post only on AP from then on.

-will i be online a lot?:yes. i am on AP every single day of the week at all times of the day. i think my post count shows how much that i am on and participate in the forums. i do think it is necessary for a mod to be on a lot of the time so if a problem does happen it can be taken care of quickly.

that is all my reasons i should be mod. and i have a suggestion. my suggestion is that there could be 2 mods per forum. but they would have to live far away from each other. like one in America and the other in Europe. that way there should usually be a mod around. like i said, it's just a suggestion. so if you don't agree don't hold it against me.

thank you for your time.

I'd love to be a mod of either the pop forum or the emo forum. All my friends are going on tour this summer or working for labels or having awesome internships and then there's me....who will be sitting around all summer constantly checking AP or Myspace or something every 5 seconds cause I'll be bored and want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Because I love away from college, I can't do my radio show and that makes me sad because it's the one thing were I can play the bands I love to people who know not much about them! Plus I need to be around more people who apperciate the music I listen to because being around indie snobs who think they know everything can get redundant and I hate fighting the same battle every week! Please help a sister out because I know you need more girls around....plus I love the Veronicas and will even admit to it...

During high school I made http://r2wrestling.proboards23.com. The board was designed my junior year of high school. It was made for wrestlers, parents, and fans to see whats happening wrestling wise in the region. Because the site was aimed towards wrestling in the region alone, i didn’t see as many members as http://absolutepunk.net, but it was active. you didn’t need to be a member to register so you could post anonymously, but I recently had (Most users online was 41, Feb 20, 2006 and over 700 different IP addresses) which is extremely good for a wrestling site that only regarded a small region of Virginia. (right now its off-season, so not much is going on) My site was noticed by the VHSL (Virginia high school league) wrestling website and several other sites including www.mattalkonline.com (http://www.absolutepunk.net/www.mattalkonline.com) and www.virginiawrestling.com (http://www.absolutepunk.net/www.virginiawrestling.com). Because the site was very competitive, a lot of arguments broke out and as a mod I did my job and kept things in order. In result, to the site and its activeness, i would receive emails regularly concerning dual results, tourney results, and other news. The site has been active 2 years and running now, but because I am out of high school I have began giving my powers to a former teammate of mine.

I finally got my internet running again and I have become more active than ever. I am constantly on http://absolutepunk.net, its my homepage for pete sakes. I love music and I love forums, and now that I have established a computer connection in my apartment I can post and moderate all of the time. I have also never been banned from the site for posting leaked or acting inappropriately. I am aware I do not have as much post as several people, but i am always on here and am I always checking threads and that is what counts.

Most importantly, I am a huge fan of music. All genres, but my favorite would be the one I am applying for. Pop, I love pop music, especially pop punk and pop rock. you can look at my last.fm for proof, it truly speaks for itself. Since the pop sub category has been added, I have become even more active. I spend almost all of my time on http://absolutepunk.net in the pop section. I am currently holding a pop tourney to keep the category active and for fun. With the help of drew I was able to get the tournament bouts as stickys. I plan on doing a lot of other things like that, with albums and etc. (look how much activity the pop catagory has seen so far, half the reason is the tourney. also other AP genres like alt and hip hop are doing the same as i did help set a spark) Since I am almost always on http://absolutepunk.net I will be able to remove leaked material placed by people and do what is necessary to make sure they do not do it again. Being a mod on my region 2 site and seeing it on other forums, I know they bring a diverse crowd and a lot of racial slurs and stereotypes are placed on boards. I attend one of the most diverse colleges in the country (VCU) and I have always been exposed to a diverse community so I will not tolerate behavior that discriminates groups of people.
