where has it gone since the election of obama?
nearly all of us saw a large chunk of bush's policies as despicable, and obama has not changed them in any but the most superficial of ways. so why has obama gotten a pass here?
if you tell me it's because he just started and hasn't had time to address the complaints people have previously leveled concerning foreign policy i don't buy it anymore.
why are we fighting in afghanistan? during the election we were told it was better then fighting in iraq because that's where the terrorists are...but is it really? i know i haven't seen any sort of well sourced intelligence reports claiming afghanistan is still a central base for al queda recently...in fact everything i've heard recently indicates pakistan has taken on that role.

Reread those reports. Al-Qaeda is still very much present in Afghanistan, especially in the Khyber Pass (which is on the border of Afghanistan/Pakistan). Didn't you follow all the unrest due to the elections recently?

the unrest during the recent elections was largely attributed to the taliban....but please fill me in on the khyber pass.
my position during the bush years was that running around the globe killing (mostly innocent) people doesn't change minds and i still believe that.
on a historical level the only consistent way to stop movements from resorting to terrorism has been to bring them into the political fold and thus give them something to lose.....for some reason they always stick around as long as you try to forcefully silence them and shut them out of the political process.

Meant to say Taliban.

not that i have much to contribute, but i've wondered the same thing.
why is there no outrage over afghanistan? thousands and thousands of civilians killed. the world doesn't want us there, the afghan people don't want us there, troop levels increasing...where are all the anti-war protesters that were so loud when bush was president?

didn't realize how much of a non-issue this has become.

Afghanistan is an utter quagmire.
I don't understand why he didn't release the photos. We know what they show, just release them. It won't embolden them anymore than they are already are.
Not sure why we still have massive bases in Qatar, UAE, etc, etc.
The tribunals for the detainees being reworked to be slightly less unconstitutional/against international law.
We continue to give a lot in foreign aid.
Only thing I've agreed with is his slightly harder than typical approach with Israel.

what do you think about this just announced presidential interrogation team?
to me it reeks of expanding powers, and on a domestic political level, pure foolishness.

I heard about it, didn't read much about it.

that's some change we can believe in, right?
People need to stop holding politicians to their obviously POLITICALLY-motivated campaign slogans. I don't get pissed when the big-mac I'm eating doesn't quite look as good as the one on the commercial. Get over it.
