Everyone knows this type of person. The typical "EMO SUXX" dashboard hating slipknot listening prick. Either that, or you know some "musical genius" know-it-all that listens to underOath and Panic! at the disco and claims dashboard is "girly emo." Some facts about Carraba:

-He is a better lyricist than 99% of the terrible musicians in this "scene." He came before all of this academy is panic at the disco cartel crap, and he did it better.
-He was in further seems forever, automatically elevating him to musical greatness and infamy.
-There are FEW acoustic project that are lyrically as strong as Carraba's work. I don't see Jack Johnson catching shit, and yet, I look at Jonhson's lyrics and laugh.
-His work is enjoyable by all ages.

I wish this scene didn't exist and it was still dashboard, sunny day, at the drive in, further, and saves the day. Back then, people took pride in listening to good music, and didn't bash something because it went "out of style" or "out of the underground" 4 years ago. I remember my first day of highschool, walking around with my gigantic CD player listening to a compilation of carraba's work. Back then, everyone regarded him with respect. Now I just want to stab these fuckers that act like they''re too good for this music when either they didn't know of it or loved it 5 years ago.

Well, I went off topic, but I think Carraba along with the other artists I mentioned CREATED the music these ungrateful kids listen to today and they pretend like they're too good for it, or like it's bad music.

Honestly the only people that can talk down to/about Carrab's work are middle-aged adults because they grew up with the Beatles, Cure, Smiths, Lennon, and Pink Floyd and they are some of the few artists to supercede Carraba. I think 10 years from now, Carrba's work will endure, and people will still be listening to it.

In my mind, Dashboard compares to other great musical projects, its timeless and it really hadn't been done before, not to mention enjoyable by people of all age groups.

In short, Carraba is a God.

P.S.: Yes, he did sell out, and the last album was dogshit. But I am looking forward to future work that goes back to his roots (if you don't count the last album as a terrible attempt at a FSF ripoff).

I'll respond more fully later to this later, but I don't see his last album as a sell-out album. His acoustic work was what made him popular and to do something else with his music was a gutsy move (that didn't pay off all that well).

I wouldn't call him a "God", but he makes incredible music.

i like everything he's done...i personally feel that dashboard captured a moment for alot of people, meaning when they change it upsets alot of people that can only relate dashboard to the specific time when they first heard it

Agreed.

"The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" is one of my favorite albums.

You think Dashboard's last album was a FSF rip-off? Have you ever listened to FSF?

lol... no comment.

it was an FSF rip off if you take into account that he left FSF to do his own acoustic project, and then when it took off, he did the exact thing he was doing with FSF, and made the same style of rock music.

this is basically like that article about how Dallas Taylor or whatever his face is left underOath, and they posted his new band, and it sounds EXACTLY like underOath. That's what I was talking about. i don't care about technicalities. it's the big picture.

FSF sounds nothing like anything Dashboard has ever, ever done. Even his last album - just because they had the same vocalist at some point doesn't mean the bands are similar - was Circa Survive a Saosin rip-off? I'm just sayin'.

I thought Several Ways to Die Trying was one of the best songs to come out of Dashboard Confessional ever. Rapid Hope Loss, As Lovers Go, I Am Missing, Bend and Not Break, and Ghost of a Good Thing were all very good songs as well. I *believe* that if Chris did the MMBS album under any other name, heck, even FSF like someone suggested it sound ripped from, it would have been more well-received. I love Dashboard.

i miss the acoustic stuff. but the last album was nice. i dont think their isnt a kid that doesnt like this guy in the scene. and by that i mean. you know in their room they are listenign to it. and on here they are bashing it just to look cool. i honestly love it still and there isnt a week i dont go by without listening to remember to breathe. i remember the exact moment i first heard DC. sitting in my friends kitchen . and he puts it on. and its screaming infidelities. and i fall in loveeeeee.

but im rambling.

i just think everyone (maybe i am wrong) would love to see him be solo, or at least all acoustic again.... i love the full band sound on "saints and sailors" and "again i go unnoticed"...it would be nice to go back to that sound...

but, i will support whatever projects he creates...its natural for songwriters to evolve...i don't think it has anything to do w/ "selling out"....i think its just chris' way of experimenting w/ a new sound and a new producer (i wanna say alan moulder did mmbs, but not sure)......

I find it ridiculous to say that he sold out. Sure he made the new album w/ a full band, but he himself said that maybe one day he'll be back w/ just him and a guitar, but right now he's enjoying the full band approach. Not to mention the new album was great.

I love Dashboard, and every album he's ever done.

Chris is one of my favorite musicians.

P.S. He added a band, but Chris writes everything for Dashboard(the new album.) He even did all the percussion.

So... technically it is a solo project still. ;)

I was just about to say this. I'm glad at least someone said it.

also, I think it's unfair to label someone who doesn't like Dashboard as a scenester who listens to shitty music. I really like(d) The Places you have come to fear the most, but I didn't enjoy aMaMaBaS or the new one at all.

oh
and
Aaron Weiss could write circles around Chris Carraba. Just sayin'

Don't get me wrong, I love myself some good ole acoustic Dashboard, but what I think a lot of people forget is that Chris himself has said that Dashboard was never meant to be completely acoustic. Back when he started, all he had was himself, and his guitar. I mean, he toured part of "Places..." with a full band, so its not like this "full band" thing is some new terrible thing.

Oh, and...

I agree he is an amazing lyricist. I agree the fact that he was in FSF elevates him to infamy. But seriously, to compare him to Jack Johnson? They are two different artists. Sure, if Chris wrote lyrics like Jack, I probably wouldn't like it; however, Chris also doesn't play guitar like Jack...nor does his music really sound like Jack's. I think Jack Johnson's music matches his lyrics really well, just as Chris' lyrics match his music.

And to say that the only people who can talk down upon Chris' music is stupid. Anyone can say whatever the fuck they want about it. Who gives a shit. And plus Beatles and Floyd were 60s and 70s, and Cure and Smiths were 80s'...thats a 30 year span of what you consider "middle-aged".

And...no, Chris did not sell out. Sorry, I don't usually flame like this.

Now, to flog a dead horse.
Sure, he is a great musician and lyricist. There's no denying that.
But quoting opinion as fact? That's a bit silly, to say the least. Everybody's entitled to an opinion. Sure, you have yours, but that doesn't make somebody else's wrong.
You mentioned Jack Johnson's lyrics? His are different, but that doesn't make them poor. They are a different style.
Also, before you start having a go, I'm a big fan of his, I'm just trying to put a bit of perspective on this.
That's my two bits worth.
