Saves The Day - For me, it was a dissapointment. Some songs are great but overall i can forget about it. 6/10

Punchline - Very impressed. Catchy and the vocals are pretty impressive. This might be making my Top 20 or even 10 this year. 8/10

Moneen - Wow. This album is definitely the best of '06 so far. Beautiful. The vocals are classic Moneen, and musically they have kept it real, but yet improved. 9/10

Hit The Lights - Ehhhh. Lots of talk about this but i don't find it very memorable. "Bodybag" and "Save Your Breath" are fun tracks, but that's about it. Nothing too exciting. 5/10

I bought Saves the Day and Moneen today and will probably buy Pretty Girls Make Graves and Built to Spill tomorrow. Maybe Punchline too if I have the extra money just because I really liked "The Getaway". I hated Action though... Greg Wood might be the deciding factor.

Anyhow, I'm really happy with Saves the Day and Moneen. Sixteen dollars well spent... thank you Best Buy! I expected STD to be great, but Moneen really impressed/shocked me. Every chorus seems to soar and the music is structured so excellently. I think both of these will have staying power with me.

I forgot to mention Hit the Lights. I didn't buy it today, but recieved an advance copy in the mail awhile ago and listened to it for a week straight. It's catchy as hell. If you were disappointed with the last FOB record, it's for you.

pre-orders are worthless unless you are getting something extra for free
they rarely get them out before the release date and then you have to wait over a week for it to arrive cause the mail system will jerk you around

Saves the Day, Moneen, Hit The Lights and Protest the Hero, even though that didn't come out today. Definitely a good day for cds. I havn't bought any in a little bit so I had to splurge. Anyone else who has a Mac notice that the Hit The Lights cd doesn't rip to the computer with a Mac? I had to use my friends PC and send it to myself just to get it in itunes.

i bought hit the lights on itunes today. that's another absolutepunk exclusive that made me buy the cd i probably normally wouldn't (cartel being the other, I was buying the fold regardless)

and i bought moneen today only because i liked what i heard and b/c it was six bucks at best buy. for me it was worth the gamble. so far its sounding like it is. i also got just one of the guys at best buy for 10 bucks. that movie rules.

I got the saves the day and moneen.

Saves The Day first of all is my favorite band of all time. The new album is Stay What you Are good. I like it alot uhh it probably wont last as long as the others.

moneen - fucking brillant. I dont know if its the free health care or what but canada has four creative genius's in moneen.

04/11/06, 04:32 PM
i picked up the red tree and sound the alarm, as well as that death cab for cutie dvd. i would've bought hit the lights but alas, 'twas not there. plus the red tree was dirt cheap, a mere $9.99 canadian. i don't know the conversion for american currency right off the top of my head, but either way, it was still dirt cheap.

Saves the Day - Great, not as good as Stay What You Are

Punchline - Catchy, good pop punk, a fun album

Hit the Lights - What FOB should've one with FUCT(although I liked FUCT, just wasnt a TTTYG)

JOSH RITTER - ANIMAL YEARS ...........yet to buy it, but the ecard has the whole album, beats all the albums above me, one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. "Thin Blue Flame" is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

No its not. You've just been tricked into thinking it is because you're used to the overinflated prices of 13.99-15.99 the RIAA has been sued for charging. Anything over $9.99 isn't considered 'cheap' in my opinion.

Saves the Day - fantastic. Not their best work, but still - DEFINTELY worth the money. Buy this FIRST.
Hit the Lights - bought this CD basically just to support them...they're good guys - I'm actually more impressed than I was anticipating. Not groundbreaking stuff, but damn is it fun.
Moneen - I got to Best Buy @ 10:00 this morning (when they opened) but couldn't find this CD, and had to leave for class ASAP...so I'll pick it up tomorrow. Hearing a lot of good stuff about it, so I'll succumb to the hype.

To all the people who said they download music and don't have the money. Fuck that. The downloaders are ruining the music industry but we all knew that. And to the people that don't have money. Neither do I. But I made a decision that instead of going out on Friday night and spending 20 bucks on beers I am going to spend 4 or 5 bucks on some food and chill with my friends and play board games. That cleared 15 bucks to spend on music.
So I picked up HTL and Moneen. My sister ordered STD for me for my bday.

So my thoughts.

STD- Very good. Nothing mind blowing but definitely a very solid album throughout. I couldn't find any filler tracks, however, I didn't really find any stand out tracks. 7.5/10

HTL- Exactly what I was expecting (of course I have been listening via the Leak) so I had already solidified my opinion. Although the bass on the CD is heavier than I thought. But I enjoy that so I can blast it from my car's system. Nothing groundbreaking here, just very solid pop-punk. Great driving CD. 7/10

Moneen- Saved these guys for last. Now I have a couple things to preface here:
1) I only really listened to 2 or 3 tracks from them off their last album and wasn't too impressed.
2) Basically the only reason I picked it up was because it was 5.99 at Best Buy.
Now that being said.... Holy Crap, is this CD good. I am only 6 tracks in currently and am already blown away. It is so good that I had to come drop in here halfway through the CD to talk about it. The guitar work is excellent and the vocals fit excellently into the music. Haven't read the lyrics yet but will get to that. So, I haven't heard the full CD or read the lyrics but this album definitely has top 10 for the year all over it. I will see how the whole CD stands the test of replayability but right now A+ to Moneen: 9/10

I just about bought the new punchline cd off of itunes about an hour and a half ago. I must say I'm very impressed, its a great cd. I was also a fan of most of the action cd. A couple of the songs off of action didn't catch my ears, but this cd I'm already on the second time playing it. I'm really enjoying this cd. I miss Paul's back up vocals, but I think Greg definitly does a good job and definitly filled that space Paul left behind.

Today I bought

Saves the Day - Sound the Alarm
It is a lot better than I was expecting. I love the vocals althought Ive been hearing that a lot of you are put off by them.
Moneen - The Red Tree - Ive only listened to two songs so far and I am impressed. Unlike all of you I paid 11.99 for it at my local cd shop to support it. Best Buy is killing it

I also bought
Josh Ritter - The Animal Years
Although this didnt come out today ... AMAZING

What a great day!!

SAVES the f***ing DAY owns every band on the planet...the oral history in AP is pretty interesting I didn't realize how much they went thru to make records especially stay what you are...they have no idea how incredible they really are .....the new album is definitely their second best album and on the rise for me every song on the album is just straight out noteworthy........i bought the moneen cd and saves the day together for 15$ at FYE ...as long as you buy them together

What's with all the STD hate. I fuckin loveee that record... been listening to that non stop, and I think Chris' vocals are perfect. It's a dismal masterpiece. Just anger, neurosis, and self-loathing.... mmm mmm.

I couldn't agree with you more....

you're the best

i bought punchline and hit the lights, both i think are solid releases from what i've heard so far. punchline played an impressive show tonight at the knitting factory in nyc, i thought they outdid every other band that played by far (new atlantic, valencia, cute is what we aim for) although i am a fan of all the other bands as well. their vocals were just amazing and they seemed so excited to be there, lots of energy and a really tight set. i will most likely pick up saves the day later this week..

I went to Best Buy and they did not carry the new Hit the Lights, even though the website said they did. Best Buy is starting to go downhill in my book, not to mention I couldn't find Ocean Avenue either (I've started playing violin, so I could play along).

I couldnt buy anything because I had to work and by the time I was done everywhere was closed...
Im probably going to pick up saves the day and hit the lights. im listening to punchline to see if i want to buy it... so far i like it but ive only listened to 2 songs.

I just got paid the other day [yay for first paycheck ever in my life!] so I can afford all of these at one time! Yay I love working.

Seriously, 8 pages of replies and not one for Toby Keith....

Thank god.

I didn't get off of work until after Best Buy and the local record stores were closed. They did have it at Wal-Mart though when I stopped for some grocieries but I didn't buy it because I didn't know for sure if it was edited on any songs(they seem to actually be calling this process AMENDED now for some reason) because of lyrics. I would have loved to bought it just to support STD in the major market level but I didn't wanna risk it in case it was edited.

Id rather support a local record store and wait an extra day.

So basically Moneen is the general consensus for album of the year on AP so far?? Haven't really heard anything less than "its a good album" so far.

No, it has no copy protection on it. I easily ripped it witout any trouble at all.

it didnt read on my mac. but worked on my mates pc. i had the same problem with the new sounds record.

i bought moneen, std, new death cab dvd, and htl. they are all fantastic records. the new moneen is light years above their past efforts.

i really would like to pick up the new punchline and rookie of the year. i picked up jettie but that was released last year. $60 well spent.

The new Saves The Day album is RAD.

Other than that, I haven't checked out anything else yet.. Most of the new releases are bands I don't really listen to..

I was thinking about getting the new Punchline album, though.. I saw those guys in concert when they we're touring with Bayside, and they were pretty alright.. So I might make them my next choice.

You'd expect this from a punknews kiddie, but the Ryan's Hope CD is pretty sweet. Not quite as good as the review made it sound, but defintely worth your money.

preordered Punchline, STD and Moneen... from the sounds of it i should check out Rookie of the Year?

the sound of this Punchline disc is SO welcome. i dont miss paul at all, if i do i can go listen to Action.
that preorder came 4 days ahead of time, my std/moneen orders are STILL not here. damn you FYE.

but anyone having trouble with stuff not ripping, try pressing the 'Shift' key for like 5-10 secs right after you put the cd in the comp, for some reason that overrides whatever blocks you from ripping it.

preordered a whole bunch of stuff but the only thing that arrived this week was Saves the Day...

Wow! this album is fucking awesome! so dark and depraved, and the perfect soundtrack for that early-20's "what the fuck am i going to do with my life/who am i and what is this world?" kind of anxiety i've been feeling lately.
