anyone trying to lose weight / lost alot of weight in the past?
In high school my peak weight was 250lb , once i turned 18 i guess my metobolism kicked in and i've been fluxuating between 225- 215 ever since.
I've been working out the past week or so. My car broke and i don't have enough money for weed so i have nothing else to do.
I went from 215lb to 206lb in a week or two. my goal is to get to 180.
i've just been eating a good breakfast and trying not to eat too much for lunch and dinner.
as far as work outs go i've been following this
http://www.twohundredsitups.com/
and i've been punching on this thing

Body mass index is kinda important and makes sense, but to me its just a guideline that i fall way underweight on, yet im still really healthy and active, its just due to my insane metabolism i was born with. Personally my best advice is to go with how you FEEL rather then the numbers you see on a scale or how you look. If you take your mind off those for a while it might help. Also running for an hour a day or so is a great way to maintain weight and by increasing your distance within the same time frame on a frequent basis will help alot too. In other words setting goals for yourself on a workout program and stepping it up every so often, the sky is the limit. Also running is a good way to clear your mind and may help you sleep better at night haha. Sorry if i sound like a doctor/trainer, my dad is a marathon runner and kind of a health expert and hes pegged quite a bit into my brain haha

BMI isn't important if you have a lot of muscle mass.

cocaine and ipecac is the best diet around
Body fat percentage is waaay more important than BMI as far as I am aware. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/blbodyfatcalculator.htm and if you are trying to lose weight, remember the food you eat is just as important as exercise. Also, doing some cardio (walking, running, biking, swimming, etc.) would really help as well (probably more so than weightlifting, if that is what you mean by working out not that that wouldn't be beneficial either though).

my body fat percentage is 25.5
i know that's not that great but last time i got it measured (around 9th or 10th grade) i remember it was at least 45 - 50%.

well in 10th grade i weighed around 190. now i know it's not that much but it was for me. the only reason i weigh 140 now is because i got really really sick.
the best way to lose weight is to change your eating habits and exercize. also try to cut out most sugars, especially soft drinks.
my body fat percentage is 30.3%
i know that's bad but last time i got it measured (around 9th or 10th grade) i remember it was at least 45 - 50%.
50%? I don't even think that's possible.
And the best way to lose weight is vigorous ecstasy-induced sex.
That along with portion control and cardio exercise.
Hey dude. Yes to portion control. 6 small meals a day (except Breakfast. You can eat a man's breakfast.). Dont' eat past 8-9PM (assumeing you go to bed at 11PM - Midnight) Some key foods to consider:
Eggs (with yolks. Google it. They're actually good for you)
Almonds.
Berries.
Peanut Butter (All Natural)
Oatmeal.
Fruits and Veggies (obv)
Olive Oil.
8 cups of water.
Stay away from the fruit juices. Way too much sugar. One a day is good.
I recently got bored of my workout routine and joined Muay Thai. I would suggest trying something like that as well.
Hope that helps!

Actually. The best way to lose weight is simple, burn more calories than you consume. Now cardio is good, but truly WEIGHTLIFTING is best. Weightlifting raises your metabolism higher for a longer period of time afterward. Also it increases Testosterone which is helpful in muscle gain, and fat loss. The two combined is fantastic for weight loss, cardio is good for your overall fitness.
You should find out your Basal Metabolic Rate, and figure out how many calories is recommended for your goal/body type. Protein, believe it or not is essential to fat loss. You need protein to protect your muscles from wasting with the weight loss. That way protein will be used instead of your muscles for energy since you'll be in a caloric defecit.
My advice to you is to go to bodybuilding.com. They have loads of training and diet articles, also calculators that help you out with figuring your caloric needs. Protein, Carbs, and Fat needs. Also great workouts as well. If you need any more help. Just drop me a line and I'd be glad to do so.

day 2) 300 to 500 jump ropes, 1 to 2 mile run, wii fit strength training and yoga for 30-45 min(leg lift, situps, obliques, toe touches all till about to vomit, repeat 3 times)
day 3) 300 to 500 jump ropes, 6 mile bike ride, lowers lift, abs work out (leg lift, situps, obliques, toe touches all till about to vomit, repeat 3 times)

well you as a grown man can probably eat around 3000 calories a day, if you do a little sport, probably even 3500.
Whereas girls can 'only' eat like 1800-2000 calories a day. That's a big difference.

Hey man, I read a very interesting article in Time magazine which talked about exercise and how it's not as influential in losing weight as many people thought it was. It turns out that if you want to lose weight, you want to concentrate a lot on your diet as well as exercising. What the article talked about was how hard exercise leads to the secretion of a certain hormone (I don't recall which one it was), and that certain hormone tends to make you crave "tasty" foods such as pizza, chocolate sundaes, etc. It did sound a bit far fetched, but I definitely know that the only way you're going to lose a significant amount of weight is if you exercise hard, and eat foods which are high in protein and low in fat.
Also, I didn't look at that work-out plan thing you linked us up with, but just so you know, you can't try to lose fat from a certain body part/area. What happens with fat deposition is that your genetics play a huge influence in putting this fat where you are most genetically inclined to have it build up.
I hope some of this helps. If not, damn; I just spent like 10 minutes writing it. Hahaha.

wow, yeah. same with me. I'm just not hungry when I just got up. I have to be awake for at least 1 and a half hour until I can eat something.
im currently in the process of trying to loose weight. its not as easy as i thought it'd be, though i must admit, im not doing it hardcore. im just doing some exercise, eating less crappy food, i cut out soft drinks and energy drinks completely out of my diet, and using low fat versions of things like milk and butter and stuff like that. ive gone down a couple notches in my belt which im very pleased about :-)
If you REALLY want to be healthy, then follow the food pyramid/triangle. NEVER drink soda/energy drinks and never eat fast food. Also, i know you like weed, but you should stay off it cause its giving you the munchies to get bigger.

Thanks for the link about the running. I'm definitely going to try this out.
I hate sports though, except biking. But I bike a lot and doesn't really lose any weight, so I have to try something else. I do eat rather healthy, I'm a vegetarian so lots of fruit and vegetables. The only problem is that I love pizza and I could eat one every single day haha. But of course I don't do that. And I eat way too much cheese. Perhaps I should start eating breakfast. During school I never ever have breakfast, I'm too lazy to wake up earlier to eat. And I basically have like 3 meals per day (sometimes only 2). It's not like I'm extremely overweight, but I do feel uncomfortable in my body, so I have to do something about it.
Two years ago I basically didn't eat anything for the whole summer. I just smoked a lot of cigarettes, drank a lot of water and ate an apple or two per day(or some other fruit and shit). I lost A LOT of weight, it was amazing. But I was kinda sick by the end of august, constantly dizzy, not being able to do anything... I had no energy at all haha. I still wish I'd do this 'diet' again. It's amazing how skinny can you get.

this is very good advice. also, there's a fantastic free program online called Fitday that allows you to track your calories, weight, exercise, moods, BMI, etc. It's a little tedious at the beginning to add every food you eat in, but once you've added them, they're there permanently. it's at http://www.fitday.com . You'd be amazed at how little or how many calories you're eating when you're not keeping a food diary. This program even breaks down the percentages of each nutrient and carbs, fat, and protein.
eat all naturally as much as possible. the best and easiest way to do it is if you read the food label and you see more than 5 ingredients - don't eat it or if there are any ingredients in the list that you could tell your (hypothetical) great grandmother and she wouldn't recognize from her kitchen, don't eat it. processed foods and anything containing high fructose corn syrup should be avoided at all costs.
good luck :)

My peak weight is a gross 165 pounds. I am ashamed to even say that. Since January I have been going to the gym regularly, though I regret to admit I haven't gone in the past 3 weeks. I just started my new job after being unemployed for months and months and was trying to get my body used to getting up at 6:30 Monday-Friday again and managing my time. Starting Sunday or Monday I plan on going to the gym again and going 3-4 times a week. But for the majority of my diet so far, for 6 weeks, I have been calorie counting like crazy. Only two or three days have I gone over my peak. I eat about 1200 calories a day. It is hard and I feel myself attempting to eat more junk and go over the 1200, but I have lost a solid 10 pounds since I started calorie counting. I know once I get on a better workout routine plus my calorie counting, I can lose the other 35 pounds much quicker.

I'm 5'8 and about a year ago I weighed 210.
I've always been the fat kid so I decided to be more healthy and watch my calorie input/output.
I tried to get about 1,500 calories a day (no sodas or candy) and walk for about 45 minutes 3-4 nights a week.
In mid November I decided to try being a vegetarian for a week as a goal, and ever since then I just decided to stick with it. I'm sure that helped a lot also.
I weigh 145 now and still trying to go down to 135-130.
The only two things pretty much holding me back is that I started drinking about a month ago and I discovered Little Caesars.
It seems a lot harder to lose weight now than when I first started in general.
One problem on my side is that I don't take any vitamins for anything I could be lacking from not eating meat. So I have a feeling that a lot of that weight loss could be from muscle loss instead of fat. My arms, legs, and face are skinnier but I still have a decent size gut left to take care of.
Well that's my weight story.

Congrats first of all on all the weight you've lost. :-) And second of all, I chuckled at the Little Caesars comment. I have discovered that if you just plan ahead, that you can fit even pizza into your daily calories if you just eat really healthy the rest of the day. I love Jimmy John's and their #6 is like 640 calories but if I try to stay away from junk and eat small calorie snacks like fruits and veggies, I can fit one of those sandwiches into my 1200 calorie diet no problem.

It's pretty normal to get distracted for like a month or so especially after changing lifestyles. But good luck with getting back on track.
I never heard of Jimmy John though haha.
Taco Bell's crunch wrap was my favorite since it was 560 calories (less without the beef?) and really filling.

Yeah, I used to live in Chicago... I biked EVERYWHERE. Then, I moved to Pennsylvania and gained 80 pounds.
I didn't mention this, but I was manorexic for a while I lost my first 20 pounds in an instant. Then, at 208, I stopped eating again. (I was embarrased at how fat I was when I met Alkaline Trio LOL) and I dropped to 188 in a couple weeks. I went to rehabilitation when friends found out.. after that, I shot bact to 192. Now, I'm losing a pound or so a week, and excercising daily.
175 this morning.
It's been a rollercoaster, I'll tell you that.

Checked my weight today, i'm down to 140lbs. This is bad cause i'm 5'11", my knees, feet and back get sore easily and i get pissy pretty easily. Anyone know how to put on weight healthily? I only need about 15 pounds or so to get back to target weight.

if you're in a serious relationship get out of it. there's something about serious, long term relationships that causes weight gain....i've lost 30-40 pounds since the end of my last relationship and i haven't consciously done anything different.
drink lots of cold water, you quench your thirst and burn a few calories bringing the water up to body temperature.

Testosterone levels go down when a man is in a serious long term committed relationship which might have something to do with that.

I'd like to thank you for making this thread :) The reason is because I have been overweight all my life and I have never really don't anything about it. I want to, but never do. Starting off, I am going to just drop the soda which will be hard because I really like it a lot. I was wondering if Sobe Life Water is any good for you or not? My brother drinks it and I like the taste of them but I was wondering if they were like Gatorade, being that its not good for you or not. I am also going watch a lot more at what I eat. For exercise I am going to start walking. Its good because we have a treadmill in our basement. I was wondering if anyone else had any other exercising techniques with a gym membership/if you don't have weights. Thanks.

Lifting weights are the only way to go if you want to lose weight. You need to drink a lot of water. Don't buy into that whole energy drink BS. Eat a lot of protein. There are a lot of sacrifices to be made like quitting certain foods but you get used to it. No pain no gain. Don't forget to buy a Tapout shirt when you go to the gym so you can fit in. J/K about that last part.

I try and then it's like something happens and then I'm just like 'screw it for right now' and then I want to try being good and exercising and whatnot.
Like for a while I was doing really good-I had lost like 5 to 10 pounds and people were like 'oh you look good' and it made me feel good about myself and then I got sick and that threw that off for like a week and then it's hard getting back into it.
And I don't have the money for a gym pass right now and I totes don't want people looking at me while I'm being nasty and sweaty..I know everyone else is nasty and sweaty too..I had a gym pass for a semester in college and I'd always feel inferior to everyone there because they were already skinny and fit...
I'm hoping to get back into it again (I mean exercising and whatnot). I bought the Carmen Electra CardioAerobic Striptease box set and that stuff is fun :) It makes it seem like you're not doing boring exercising and I get a laugh out of it being I'm all sexy dancing and whatnot..

First, good thread! I used to be massive. I stopped weighing myself because it was too depressing. I got sick of looking like a dope and did something about it. Over the course of 5 years or so I've cut my weight way, way down. I still have another 20lbs to go , but it'll happen. My advice for starting off is just to DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT. Take a walk, a bike ride, eat differently...little steps. If your body goes from doing absolutely nothing to getting even a little bit of a work out, you'll notice it. Then build on that success.
Right now, I'm trying to cut back on my alcohol. It's been very hard, but we'll see what happens...
I totes don't want people looking at me while I'm being nasty and sweaty..I know everyone else is nasty and sweaty too..I had a gym pass for a semester in college and I'd always feel inferior to everyone there because they were already skinny and fit...
I am, without a doubt, the sweatiest guy at my gym. lol. I get what you are saying because I must look ridiculous, but you honestly just have to accept the fact that that is how your body is. I do try to curb my sweaty appearance by wearing a bandana to hide my sweat-soaked hair, wear dark colors so the sweat doesn't show as much and towel myself off all the time.

Hahaha.
i read that article, what a load of crap. and i love times magazine. if you stick to being healthy, you'll lose the weight.of course you're gooing to crave things, but it's called self control. that article made me mad sorry if i sound bitchy.

I weighed like 210 at my peak and I'm 5'10". I'm down to 155 now just from eating little meals for a long time. I'd eat literally like 1 piece of chicken and some green beans throughout the day and go to the gym pretty much every day. I would go at least 4 times a week and sometimes every day. Also, don't just run. Do chest exercises, ab exercises, and do a fat burner setting on an elliptical or something for an hour a day. Building muscle raises metabolism and helps you lose weight faster so don't just run, the weights will help you lose weight as well.

Yeah and once you've built up the muscle they burn fat too. More hungry muscles = less fat storage. Cross country and soccer helped me get from 15% body fat down to 8%. Kept it off ever since and i haven't ran since high school. I think metabolism kicked in a ton.

I weighed 228 one year ago. Now i am at 173. I am 6 foot 1 inch.
Going vegan, started controlling my calorie intake, and started exercising is what changed me.
I hated anything that involved physical activity. Sports, walks, going out, anything. Now, I get such a rush from running and cranking my music full blast in the night.
Running sucks at first., it's horrible. Use this guide, this is exactly what I did. http://running.about.com/od/getstartedwithrunning/ht/getstarted.htm
If i could do it in the middle of January with black ice and 200 ft hills in PA, you can too.
I'm assuming that you love music, since you are on the site. Just crank some jams while you run, it really helps.
Be patient, and don't give up..
Thanks for this. I'm terrible at running and really needed a plan like this. It seems easy enough.

Eat to gain weight. Work out muscles while gaining said weight. Turns the weight gained to muscle. And eat protein? I really have no idea if that works though.
As for me, I was 175-180 at my peak. Became a vegetarian, but not to lose weight. Went to China, and came back weighing 145-150 or so. Started eating meat again in China because this guy kept on offering me meat dishes and it got really annoying. Freshmen year of college went up to 160 or so. Stopped eating meat again, not to lose weight though. Now I'm around 145-150. My exercise consists of biking to get around and basketball every so often. But now a days I try to eat healthier vegetarian meals. Steamed vegetables, fruits, anything for protein etc etc. I have smoked throughout all this so it's not like I'm really healthy.

They've been trying to use BMI seriously in the Military Physical fitness test, if your BMI is over 29 you are considered obeise and had to go to this program, but they have learned that if you are say more of a body builder than your muscle mass is going to make your BMI over that anways, so now we just go by how you look in uniform if you are over BMI. Whenever I put on a few pounds, I just run everyday and then I get back to normal. Eating healthy is not always the biggest thing, also eating the right portions is key. It's funny I went to Wendy's last night for dinner and this lady in front of me told her daughter she wasn't getting a combo because she was on a diet, and then proceded to get a chicken salad... but she also got it with ranch dressing and croutons, and the chicken breaded.... that stinks, I don't need to cut down on my portion but eat healthier, pizza and burgers isn't going help me keep my 28 waist. And the second biggest problem is none of my friend wants to hit the gym, besides playing basketball. Then if i decide to work out with the girls i can only be there for about 10 minutes cause they can't go as long as i can. Time to make some more friends. On another note drinking 5/7 days isnt that good either.

All of the BMI standards are based on your age and height and whether you're male or female. Take me for example; Im 6'3, 245lbs. Army standards say I should weigh 212 lbs at my current age (23) and height. As you can see Im 33lbs over that. However, a look at my PT test shows that Im in no means out of shape, and they used this to determine whether they put you in a program like that. If I was struggling at PT, of course this would be a different story and I would be on one of the weight programs.
tl;dr, what branch are you where they judge you just by looking at you in uniform?

I'm kind of on a diet right now. I should be doing more stuff (I'm trying to lose about 15-20 lbs) but right now I've just been cutting down on portions and not eating any junk food. I don't usually drink pop so that's not a problem. I do drink a lot of gatorade g2 which only has about 75 calories in a 20oz bottle. Other than that, I eat a bowl of cereal, or a bowl of oatmeal, or at least just a granola bar for breakfast every day. I have a small lunch and usually a regular sized dinner. Any snacks during the day are things like granola bars, fruit, etc. I don't know if I've lost anything yet, but I know cutting down on my portions has been good because I can tell my appetite is shrinking.

I'm planning on losing about 10 more pounds, it's turning out to be really hard. The 50 I lost over 2 years was easy, but for some reason something like losing 10 lbs is way harder. It's even harder to keep off once its gone. I was at 180 a month ago, and its been fluctuating between 180 and 190 on what seems like a weekly basis, never below 180.

Yea right now I am pretty sure that women and men have the same waist size standards too, which is rediculous. Like Im a 28, and for a man to have a 28 waist is never good. lol. I think they are changing that here next year too. Our whole PT is changing in January.

That's just the product of people who go "strictly" by the books. If it's obvious that they're fat, that's a different story. On the other hand, anyone in the military knows Common Sense isn't so common.

I just weighed myself for the first time since last winter and was pleasantly surprised to see I lost about 20 lbs. I knew I lost a lot, but it was good to see a number that exceeded my expectations. I really re-focused my workouts and food intake. Feels goods!

Haha you got that right! That's why they are now going by how we look in our blues, because it is the most close fitting uniform. If you have a large shirt and your buttons are popping off, thats when you need to be on the program. But there are also a lot of people who aren't in trouble in the weight department, they just can't run so when they deploy that's a problem too, they are realizing this and making our PT test a little harder.

I'm obese... I won't go into specific weight, but I'll leave it at that. I have an eating disorder and I've struggled with my weight all my life.
I just found out today that since January I've lost 40 pounds, which isn't amazing but isn't bad either. Some of the things I've done/do are: completely cut out fast food, stopped drinking soda, try to have smaller portion sizes and follow serving sizes more, started drinking about 12 (or sometimes more) glasses of water a day, and trying to get at least 45 minutes of cardio exercise in everyday.

I'm 5.6 and I use to way 185 but I lost 33 lbs by exercising and eating less. my sister lost 40. I've tried many diets and failed, What I've learned is only YOU can lose wait. Its not about what exercise program you have or what diet you go by. I don't even go to the gym or have any exercise equipment. I just work out at home everyday.
I haven't eaten a candy bar in 9 months:)

I'm really fat and need to lose weight.
then do it, I did. I lost 33 lbs all by myself. No gym, no program, and no diet books or pills. just exercised at home and ate less, drank diet soda and cut out sugar.
I'm 6ft 3 and this morning was the first time I'd been under 210 in about 6 months. I'd peaked at nearly 225 and thought shit, gotta change something here. So the aim is to get below 200. Cut out the excessive amounts of crisps, fizzy drinks, ice-cream and chocolate, and joining the gym with my flatmate once were back at uni next week. Apparently my body fat is about 20%, is that good/bad? All I know is that I feel/look like I need to be healthier and lose a bit more weight.

I was scared I was going to gain weight in college but during my first year I actually lost 30 pounds. Now I'm 5'3 and 116 pounds so I don't really need to lose more weight but I want to build some muscles and tone up a little.

I definitely agree with what your saying, but I mean if his MAIN CONCERN was simply having a smaller number on the scale, building muscle isn't exactly what he's going for
The weight is just a number. The weight shouldn't be the main focus. Losing fat, should be. The more muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism is; which is necessary to keep burning off the fat. DON'T Focus on the weight. Focus on what you see in the mirror.

I was fat until my freshman year of high school. Now I'm pretty damn skinny..
Drastically changed my diet and started working out.
