How did you get screwed out of seeing NFG? Did they just not come to Omaha? Or did a conflict occur and they had to cancel the show? Either way sucks!

Well, I was living in Colorado at the time. It was on a saturday, everything was perfect. The only thing was, is that we had a school band trip around the same time. My teacher told me it wasn't on the same day, but it was so I couldn't go. I was about to buy tickets too, so Im glad I didn't. It was about the same time NWAF leaked and I was really into them too.

Chameleon is like a hallway... combined with a shithole.

Sometimes, they only let under 21"s on the balcony. Depends on the show. After the changeover, they started to do that. So far, only GWAR has let under 21's on the floor when I was there.

As long as you have no plans to run around, crowd surf, or have a good time then you'll be fine. If you do any of the above actions, you'll probably get kicked out. Security there is fucking awful, but aside from that the place is pretty small and intimate. I saw FYS and SYG there back in December and they were kicking kids out left and right.

That show in Denver got canceled due to the blizzard. I was planning on going to that as well.

I'm pretty stoked about this show as well especially considering the following:
- The last time NFG played here was in 2004
- It's a headlining show (no DC!)
- Slowdown has THE best sound in Omaha and holds less than 1,000

Slowdown is no doubt the best venue in Omaha. Regardless of the 18+ waiver rule. It's smaller than Sokol Auditorium but a little bigger than Underground, but it doesn't seem like it. The set up is awesome and the sound quality is damn near perfect if not perfect. NFG will be fucking SICK there.

The Slowdown is by far one of the best venues I've ever been to.. named 2008 Esquire magazine as club of the year.... and capacity is 470. Sokol's capacity is 1300, Sokol Underground is 315.. can't wait to see Billy Talent at Sokol Underground as well!

I realized yesterday that I know much less of NFG than I thought.

I know for a fact they played (in no specific order at all):

Don't let her pull you down
Listen to your friends
47
Truck stop blues
Hit or miss
2's and 3's
Tip of the iceberg
Boy crazy
something off From the screen to your stereo 2
Understatement
My friends over you
Something I call personality
Head on collision
Forget my name
Intro
Failure's not flattering
This disaster
All downhill from here
Familiar landscapes
Truth of my youth

Definitely left out some, but hope this helps.

First band went on at about 7:30. Title fight around 8, 8:15, and New Found Glory came on around 9:20, I think.

The first band was awful, but Title Fight and NFG killed it. The crowd was kinda sucky during Title Fight and a fight broke out right near me. Some kid with a cast punched another kid in the face with said cast. It was a bit bloody. Overall, I had a great time, and yeah, don't miss it if it comes near you.

Everything I didn't like on the set is because I have listened to the latest album and I can't stand it. Coming Home is their best album, easily. They should have carried on down that route. They've become a joke trying to get back in with the kids with this new album.

Easily.

I'll go so far as to say Coming Home is underrated, especially "make your move", which is certainly their best "ballad" type song to date, it is certainly their most experimental album and they really did some interesting things, from Jordan's lower-pitch vocals to the slower rhythms to the abundant use of keyboards, but the single biggest problem with the record, IMO, is that the majority of the material doesn't translate well live and NFG is all about the live show. And their live show is all about the energetic rocking songs, Understatement, My Friends Over You, etc.

and that is what the new album "fixed", IMO. sure, Not Without A Fight isn't nearly as ambitious as Coming Home and it certainly re-treads familiar territory, but that is what their die-hards wanted. I've been listening to NFG for 10 years now, i'm 29, i've been to over a dozen NFG shows, and it's all about the anthems for me and many of their other older, hardcore fans. we love the fast songs, the energetic ones, the sing-alongs.

Coming Home has it's place in their cannon for sure, as perhaps their most ambitious album even, but it has its faults, mostly on the second half of the record. Material that just isn't what people go to NFG for, material that doens't translate well live, and material that was just a little too sugary and sappy for their fans. Sure, NFG have always predominantly focused their lyrics around relationships/girls, but Coming Home was a bit much. Take the chorus to "connected" for one, or the over-dramatics of "boulders" and "when I die", or the over-board use of piano on the whole album (i mean, did "familiar landscapes" really require that piano-line?)

so that's where i, and many of their fans, have to disagree with you. Coming Home is a great "headphones" album, a great album to put on to chill out to. But NFG is all about the live show and Coming Home is their worst album to translate live and there you go. Not Without A Fight was the return to their roots that many of us had been longing for, even before "catalyst", which was in intself a relatively experimental album that had a lot of material that didn't translate live, with all the synth and over-production. the S/T and S&S is what drew the majority of their fans to the band, it is the material that dominates their set, and NWAF was a throwback to those two records, that is why we love it, and that is why the album is being embraced by their existing fans moreso than Coming Home.

The best time I have ever seen New Found Glory live is on the Coming Home tour. They still played all the old stuff, the energetic stuff, and they also played the best tracks from Coming Home too (On My Mind, Oxygen, Hold My Hand, It's Not Your Fault, Too Good To Be). I saw them on the self titled tour, not the sticks and stones tour, then again on the catalyst tour. Catalyst is their worst album in my opinion and that was definitely the worst time I've seen them play all but for the last time on the Not Without A Fight tour. There are too many songs and way too much filler on that album. I mean they didn't even play its best song in Who Am I?

Not Without A Fight is exactly what you say it is. A throwback. Maybe that's what people want.. some poor excuse to relive their youth and for the current youth to pretend they were there when they were doing that sound well. I for one was happy that they had done the fast pop punk stuff, matured into a great pop rock band and could throw together a set with pacing and different feels to it instead of just the hundred mile an hour one dimensional thing it once was.

Who else out there has anything that sounds like Coming Home? It was a great album and their best. Of course it is my opinion, I never stated it as fact.

I feel embarrassed to watch a bunch of 30-something year old men act like teenagers filling their sets with songs that were released years ago. I guess I must be the only one though, so I'm sure they'll continue their career for a good while yet reliving past glories.

Bollocks! Wanker! now this is an assholish statement if there ever was one.

So Jordan is 30 and isn't allowed to do "hit or miss" anymore? hey i'm 29 and have been listening to NFG for 10 years, am I supposed to stop going to their shows cuz i'm "old"? am i re-living past glories, you have everyone all figured out, so mature and experienced at a whopping 20 years of age..

There's an expiration date on having fun and playing music? Band aren't allowed to play the songs they wrote when they were 21 when they're 30? what kind of shit is this?

and you have 182 in your name, I guess you feel the same about Blink182, they probably should call it a day with Hoppus pushing 40 and all, how dare they play "dammit" live anymore right?

yes, i guess NFG should slow down and play some shoe-gazing boring shit since they'er so fucking old.

Sorry to hear they "embarass" you. "reliving past glories", like they're some over-the-hill band past their prime, are you kidding me? NFG have never been tighter or better live, and Chad is fucking 27, wow, so old, you'll be there yourself in the blink of an eye .

even though you were shitting your pants 10 years ago and lied about seeing them on the S/T tour, i was there for real, and can honestly say they are tighter and more energetic now than ever before in terms of their musicianship and live performance.

Bolded is The one part of your argument that I agree with. I don't think they should stop playing Dammit as it's their first hit, but they dropped most of the songs they are playing now before they split up because it wasn't them anymore, they're doing them now for god knows what reason (money) and that is embarrassing to see. Having them sing When You Fucked Grampa and Blowjob is just atrocious, truly atrocious.

Oh yes I lied about when my brother took me to see them in 2001 at the Birmingham Academy and they had Fenix TX and RX Bandits support... How can you possibly call me a liar with that, I was just telling you how many times I've seen them and you think because you're older than me you can say oh no you didn't do that cus you're not old enough to have. Who's ageist there prick?

I'm not ageist, I just find it odd that a bunch of men actually show some growth in themselves and their music writing ability and then decide, oh no, some people are complaining this isn't My Friends Over You part 2. Better do some more of that shite.

27, even though he's actually 28, is not old, neither is 30, or even 40 nowadays. but too old to be writing songs like 47 and Listen To Your Friends, then I would say yes.

You feel embarrassed? Really? The last Blink (a band you have in your Screen name, therefore must like) record was made in 2004. They just went on tour in the US, if you didnt hear (which Im 100% certain you did, as did the rest of the world). Every song they played was AT LEAST 4 years old, so dont say this stupid idiotic shit. Bands play songs from their catalogue when they tour. What do you expect a band to do, drop every song that is over 4 years old from their set and write 10 more filler songs that nobody else knows? Don't say things like that, you clearly didn't think about it.

Reliving their past glories? You have got to be kidding me. NFG's newest album is the tightest I've heard from them. Did the thought that maybe, just MAYBE they made a record that they actually enjoyed playing live, unlike Coming Home? Because the songs from Coming Home, like stated earlier, did not mesh well live.

Well, from my point of view, when I saw them on the Coming Home tour they were the best I've seen them. Seeing Chad jump in the crowd screaming as if he's Pete Wentz recently is not the band I once enjoyed. Their latest album for me is terrible, but then so has every album from every band I used to love recently, Alkaline Trio, Less Than Jake, AFI, even Jimmy Eat World's latest was a disappointment for me.

I just spoke about this with blink, I don't particularly care for this reunion tour, as much as I'd have liked to have seen it for nostalgic purposes the video's I've seen of the set's have been pretty cringeworthy. I'd have much rather have not heard anything from them, had an album put out, then toured and had a whole bunch of new stuff to put in with the hits placed around them. I've seen them do Going Away To College, Carousel and Josie.. I want to hear what they can do now, not what they've done over ten years ago.

It was a REUNION tour. That's what you do on a REUNION tour. Face it, if Blink played NO old songs, no one would go to their REUNION tour.

Okay. Soooo we got ripped off tonight at Northern Lights. NFG played 15 songs MAX, literally half of what everyone else got. And they played THREE covers instead of two. This ALWAYS happens at Northern Lights, but I thought tonight would be different. No This Disaster, Truth of My Youth, Atleast Im Known for Something. None of those staples. I'm sure it's the venues fault and not the bands, but I'm still really bummed. Great performance though. Just wish that SEVEN of the songs weren't NWAF/covers. Never thought I could walk out of an NFG show this bummed.

that's weird...I only saw NFG do a "short" show like that once as well, but tickets were cheaper than normal, so I assumed they got paid less and thus played less...it was a last minute annouced show at a small venue in New Orleans w/ Cartel opening. I wasn't sure what happened, but they played an awfully short set (this was on the Coming Home tour), anything less than 18 songs for an NFG headlining set is "odd". It was weird cuz Cartel played for 30 min which seemed normal, but then NFG only did 45 minutes....which was weird.

I can only imagine that either A. something went wrong (one of them wasn't feeling well enough to do a full set, equipment malfunction, etc.) with the band or B. something went wrong with the venue (curfew, venue told them they couldn't play a long set or maybe they weren't paid enough?)

well glad you're embarassed about 182 because I am too, I went to said "reunion tour" and it sucked so much. they were sloppy as hell, possibly drunk (not cool when you're charging $40 for tix), telling dick & fart jokes like it's 1999 and yes, it was truly atrocious.

second paragraph, OK, I believe you

third paragraph/fourth, I agree that "NWAF" is a reactionary album, they wanted to do something the majority of their fans would find palatable, an album that would go over well live and an album that might grab them some mainstream appeal again since Coming Home singles flopped and at the end of the day, NFG is their job, so i see where they're coming from. I agree Coming Home was different and showed growth, but dude, the lyrical content was no better than NWAF, if anything it was worse. "hold my hand", "on my mind", "too good to be", "connected", "when I die"...these songs all have very cringe-worthy sappy-tastic lyrics. and the musical growth wasn't that great, all they did was mess around with some slower rhythms, thanks to Cyrus being a dynamic drummer, and some different guitar tones and vocal pitch, but that's about it. wow, they threw in keyboards all over the place. I guess I just didn't consider it as much of a step up as you do, I just thought it was different, but same formula underneath, not really any better or worse than their prior work or NWAF, other than the Coming Home stuff didn't sound so great live while the NWAF stuff kills live.

ok, 47 has bad lyrics, but this is NFG, if you think Connected or Hold my Hand are better lyrically than 47 then...OK. i disagree. "listen to your friends", while treading familar "breakup song" territory, to me is a little more original (hospital imagery, the narrative verses, it's actually a bit more creative lyrically than many of thier other breakup songs).

my only complaint w/ NWAF is thta they left off "im the fool", which is easily the best song from the sessions.

i'll throw out there that i consider "truth of my youth" to be a staple. "this disaster" and "at least i'm known for something" are certainly not "rare", but I wouldn't necessarily consider them staples.

But "truth of my youth" is a staple. I think they've played that song at easily 80% of their shows since Catalyst came out. "all downhill from here", "failures not flattering" and "truth of my youth" are the 3 staples from Catalyst IMO (and "intro" i suppose).

The Halloween show in Milwaukee last night was so fun. FFTS and Title Fight both played about 25 minutes and were really solid live, especially FFTS. The FFTS drummer was Spider Man, singer was a cow which was funny, one guitarist was Macho Man Randy Savage, and then another guy was the guy from Wayne's World. Title Fight was dressed as KISS and kept announcing their songs as Detroit Rock City and Rock and Roll All Night and Party Everyday. New Found Glory was dressed in a Karate Kid Theme.

NFG said that their tour with Saves The Day would be in February. Also, they are releasing a special edition of their self titled album which will feature 7 new NFG songs.

New Found Glory played all fan requests except for the first two songs and the last two.

New Found Glory Setlist in order:

Understatement
Truck Stop Blues
Second To Last
All About Her
Something I Call Personality
Hit Or Miss
Ballad For The Lost Romantics
The Story So Far
No Reason Why
At Least I'm Known For Something
2's & 3's
Tip Of The Iceberg
This Disaster

Failure's Not Flattering
The King Of Wishful Thinking
All Downhill From Here
Sincerely Me
Oxygen
I Don't Wanna Know
Dressed To Kill

Wow, awesome. Nice to see a good amount of self titled in there. When I saw them live, that was the only album they had out at the time, so I'm happy to see they are still up for playing a good chunk of them (it's my favorite album of theirs).

Did Title Fight open w/ "Youreyeah"

They didn't take requests in Newport.

Also, Title Fight is pretty much playing all of their songs now, I missed the first couple of tunes because I had to get a ticket to my friend, but the bass player said they always finish with Memorial Field.

EDIT:
From altpress.com
"Hot on the heels of the news that Dashboard Confessional had canceled the tour that New Found Glory were to join them on, NFG guitarist Chad Gilbert revealed that the band have plans up their sleeve. New Found Glory will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their self-titled album with a tour along with Saves The Day. No dates have been revealed yet, but we'll keep you posted when they do."

I'm so bummed that tour got cancelled, but I heard they're planning a tour with Set Your Goals. I don't know when it'll be though. Hopefully soon.

Where did you hear that? (Legit) rumors are going around about SYG doing a spring tour with Motion City Soundtrack and with NFG already having an early winter 2010 tour lined up that doesn't leave any room until summer for that tour to happen. I don't think tours are planned 6-7 months in advance.

My bad, it's actually Saves The Day. I read the article a day or two ago and mixed them up. I edited the earlier post with the AP article about it.

Haha. You saw me? That's crazy. This was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Every band was just full of dudes who are playing music because it's what they love. No bullshit gimmicks. So so so good.
