M Shadows in an interview was very open about his disgust for emo, how they arent it and how he hates it.

I cant speak for all of their gigs, but when they played birmingham in the UK there wasnt one guy or girl there without a pair of VANs and a floppy fringe covering their eyes. So id hardly say their shows a pure metal...

Additionally Shadows stood onstage and said how he fucking hates anyone who talks shit about their fans...Yet since the majority of the fanbase currently present were "emo kids", the person that has talked the most shit about his fans, is him!

its always cool to see a band from your area make it. Its not like they came from nowhere like most of the mainstreem acts. i remember the days of them playing Chain Reaction. those were some of the wildest shows ever there. Sure it seems like they are a parody of themselves now, but they are making a decent living off it. They're 15 minutes of fame will be over soon, but they had a pretty big following before MTV so I think they will be around for awhile making music.

I agree totally, I love the new CD, but id have to say Waking The Fallen is probably my favorite, i could really care less what they dress like or say in news articles.... I listen to music because its what I like, All the people following this trend of hating on this band either dont listen to their music at all (Because if you did, you'd realize how talented this band is) or just think its cool to pick on a band cause thats what everyone else is doing.

ya know. Hate em, or love em, no one can deny that they are talented. You may not like a band, and you may not like the fact that they wear makeup, but if a band or even certain members of the band are talented, and creative songwriters, you cant deny it.

In this case, I believe this band is extremely talented. I admit, they may be cheesy, and try to put out the "metal" thing a bit too much, but they work hard, and are talented songwriters.

Actually I have this album and I did enjoy it for quite a while, I just got very tired of it and then really tired of them as individuals. They have some talented musicians involved, but they aren't that amazing and they are supreme douchebags.

City of Evil wasn't terrible, in my opinion. Was it amazing? No. But save for the vocals, I did play it quite a bit when it came out, the band's image aside. I missed them live at Warped, and they're not coming here save for an awful nu-metal/radio rock festival in Miami with Rob Zombie or some shit, so I won't be seeing them live--although I did hear they're not bad in person if you can put up with some of the fans.

Image is one thing. Music is a separate entity. A band with a shitty image can still write decent music. It doesn't happen often, and I'm not saying it's true with Avenged Sevenfold, but it is possible. I try not to use the image to hate on the band unless I already dislike the music. For example, I loved and still do love TTTYG, despite the fact that Pete comes off nowadays as a fuckstick. I just won't ever see them live again unless I'm forced to because those two times were both awful experiences.

The "awful festival" you're talking about wasn't sponsored by a radio station, it was called Global Gathering and was primarily a techno festival. Coheed was there too, which is the only reason I went.

well see the problem with that is the singer CAN'T scream anymore. he had to have throat surgery between waking the fallen and city of evil...therefore, thats why his voice sounds different and thats why he doesn't scream anymore.

my point wasn't that their music was good or bad (i personally like them...but thats me)...the point was, people are bashing them for their image and all the extra stuff that it shouldn't be about. i don't care if people don't prefer a bands music, fine. thats your deal...but don't say you hate on them because they wear eyeliner, have stage names, and think they are badass or something dumb like that. if you aren't into the 80s metal thing, thats a better explanation than "those guys are assholes".

brittany spears fucking sucks....she's wear she was because its the popular thing, same with n*sync, backstreet boys, fall out boy...
i know they can play solos and whatnot. but to say thier excellent songwriters is not true. and even more, if they were such amazing songwriters they wouldn't need the gimmick, plus...comparing them to bands of thier style...they're not that amazing.

its like this...okay..kelly clarkson, a formally trained singer, can sing better than most punk bands right, but does she have any kind of unusual singing talent that makes her better than any other popstar? no.
avenged sevenfold can play solos, but comparing them to almost any 'metal' or even 'hardcore' band out there do they play any better, or...more importantly...different than any of them? no.

so where's this talent?

you talk about a bunch of "artists" if thats what you can call those pop singers that dont even remotly relate to Avenged Sevenfold.... If your talking about metal and hardcore bands sounding the same.... You can pick on their first record: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet because that is mostly screaming.... but City of Evil?? I dont see what bands your comparing them to.... the talent and songwriting in my opinion is top-notch on this album.

Reading these 6 pages was one of the most frustrating things I've done in a while. In hindsight, it was a terrible idea.
