View Full Version : Hit the Lights: worth the hype?

Honestly guys, I can NOT get into Hit The Lights. I see no comparison to "take this to your grave" other than they could be placed somewhere in the same genre in music. The vocals are terrible, like if the singer of mxpx got a cold. The music IS catchy, I'll give them that, but its not anything amazing. The hype on this band is ridiculous, in my opinion. Also, the lyrics are somewhat boring....pretty cliche. I'm sorry, but what is it you people like about this band?

Ya I'm not sure if they deserve all the hype. I thinks its a pretty good cd with some really catchy songs.

I never considered their album anything close to TTTYG. That's a classic and I don't expect any pop-punk cd to top it for a while in terms of fun. Hit the Lights are good, but I think they are more similiar to New Found glory or MxPx. It's a good album though, my fav. song not on the ep is Three oh Nine.

I can't get into the second half of the cd...and it's lost it's staying power

AP (i think tate) said this would be the next take this to your grave. Vocally, i can not see any connections what so ever. Lyrically, i do see some simularities, but not many. This album has the same ttyg feel, where you put it in on track 1 and keep it in from start to finish. I also think its as catchy as ttyg (as of now) i dont know how much of a everlasting effect it will have. I know i have been playing 'bodybag' since it came out on pv.com and i have found it still very entertaining.

right now my fav tracks are
-three oh nine
-the call out
-bodybag

the new versions of the ep songs are awesome too

the bonus track lyrically reminds me of take this to the grave

ex.

But tonight I'll wait until I know you're fast asleep
to poison you with memories of you and me
I pray you die slowly so I can be the last thing you see

So when the blindfold starts to slip
and the rope starts to rip
and I slowly start to give
and girl, you know I'm sorry

I promise this won't last long
I used to be your biggest fan,
you used to say I was your man
Now if I can't have you no one can
I'll be the last boy you hang up on

She's losing consciousness
I'm gaining confidence
It's starting to make sense
She's covered in finger prints
From her lips to her hips
All I wanted was one more kiss

Hmmmm...I really like em, I've been listening to their EP since I got it, and their LP is insane. It was on repeat this last week. I think they deserve it just because there's so many other bands out there that are in this genre, but they really stood out for me.

Ugh, why do people put numers in their usernames? It's getting confusing

I actually enjoy the last few songs on it, and the staying power i somewhat agree with you, we'll see more in due time.

When it first came out, I was all over it. Now, it's the last thing I want to hear

When people are comparing this album to Take This To Your Grave they aren't saying that is sounds a lot like TTTYG, they are saying that it is the next great, somewhat innovative, straight-up pop-punk album.

And I think they are totally right; I can't stop listening to 309.

It first came out two days ago.

It's been on here for way more than 2 days. And I agree, I've already lost interest in it.

The album leaked like two weeks ago. And I haven't listened to it too much since I got it.

HTL isn't very good. Punchline is a much better pop-punk record.

I agree Punchline's CD is better, HTL is pretty good though.

I think HTL's live show got me into them, not necessarily their EP... I dunno. Try and go see them. It might change your mind.

i've been listening to their full-length pretty much non-stop since i picked it up on monday. it makes me feel like summer. i definitely think it has a similar vibe to to 'tttyg' due to the energy & some of the lyrics, but it certainly isn't equivalent.

oh yeah, is anyone having issues ripping the album onto their computer? i tried the whole pushing the shift key thing, but it didn't work. my mp3 player needs to be in on the htl action.

I don't see the Take This To Your Grave comparison. They remind me of older New Found Glory, if anything.

They are a local band who put on a good live show. That's why they're worth the hype to me. Not to mention the guys all have been nice and down to earth.

To each their own though.

I think 100% the opposite. I can't stop listening to Hit The Lights, and I can't even make it through the new Punchline...

"This Is A Stick Up..." has only 2 good songs: "The Call Out" and the new version of "Until We Get Caught" (the EP version was better though)

the only bad song on that record is "its all the rage"

the rest are pure pop punk genius

I forgot to mention, the bonus song is sick.
