This is the first time ive ever seen a show on a college campus...and now i know why. Before i talk about the actuall performances, i have to say that every single type of person that i hate at shows was there...the big dude who came with his friends that 'just wants to mosh', the 13 year old girls who are at their first concert and refuse to let go of each other, the dude that keeps hitting you with his camera because he needs to take 20,000 pictures to prove to himself he was there, the asshole who crowdsurfs during slow songs and his older brother, the asshole who crowdsurfs at least twice during every song, the drunk girl who gets pissed when you bump into her, the girl who wants everyone to know that she has the leaked album by putting lyrics from it on a homemade shirt, the asshole who makes 'clever' comments to opening bands (ie. 'this is our last song'...'thank god!'), the 'really funny' guy and his group of friends that get so excited when they start the slow clap...they were all there
as for the performers...a comedian named BJ Novak, who apparantly is on the american version of the office came out first, and was quite hilarious although the crowd really wasnt that receptive to a comedian.
then, a band i had never heard of out of san francisco called facing new york came out. these guys suprised me because for the first five minutes they sounded like a typical 'emo' band, but then out of nowhere came keyboards, synths, and extended jaming including matt rubano coming out at one point which had the band slaying with a double guitar, double bass, keyboard assualt. needless to say, the crowd wasnt into them. they were a great band, really nice guys, and put on an excellent show. go check out their myspace or whatever
tbs came out and was amazing as usuall. adam's mike tricks really impressed the crowd, since it seemed like none of them had seen a tbs show before. i hadnt seen them since their tour with fall out boy and matchbook so i was curious if their live shows were still amazing...they are. here's a setlist
