I went to the show. He played both songs alone. He ran an electric guitar with a really heavy chorus effect and used both songs to transfer into AVA songs. Sounded great and the hype is lived up 2. Great Show

He was probably doing it to fill up the quota of time and to please the fans, after all they do only have ten songs (probably unless there were b sides) that they could play anyway. When they have more songs i'm sure they won't be playing any blink or boxcar although i'm sure it would please the crowd if they did as most I presume are all going to have been into blink.

But wasn't the reason why Blink182 broke up because of the fact that Tom was taking all the credit for the band's success and he wanted to start Angels & Airwaves to try out a new sound. Yet he's playin blink182 and box car racer song's why? Maybe he's adding those songs in case of his new band doesn't succeed as well as the others did. I dunno, but this band is REALLY good. It's a great change tho.



i'm not being funny, but i thought Tom wanted Angels & Airwaves to be an airtight project, that was all about AVA...to be honest playing blink and box car songs makes it seem like he doesn't have much confidence in AVA at all..

but i think i understand what you mean about him wanting AVA to stand for its self and how hes playing those other songs. However, right now at the current state of AVA they don't have alot of songs thats been released(besides the leak which just happend) so he probably needs to give the fans something they will know and get them really interactive. However, maybe later give or take six months to a year i doubt he will play covers of his other work but maybe? As far as blink goes i don't see it, as far as box car racer however, I can still see him promoting those songs.

Personally i don't think him promoting boxcar is bad, i just think it'd be weird AVA doing blink just becuase of whats gone down. Blink was him and Mark in my eyes. But Boxcar was 100% him

I was there, def. a very different Tom. Although at times he went back to old Tom by making fun of the crowd. Right before he played Down he told the crowd he had a surprise for us. The 10 songs FOR THE PPL who dont already have the album, all seem tight. However, as we all know Tom isn't exactly the greatest singer live and he went off key a few times. The crowd was pretty much quiet except for "Down" "There Is" and "The Adventure." He talked a lil bit about what happened 1.5 years ago but stopped and say he won't tell us. Tom was very very serious about the AVA stuff. He kept telling us it is not a punk rock show, its music and how cool if we could all feel it together the same way. He talked a little bit about what he was thinking when he made some of the songs. Overall I give the show 8.5/10 mainly cause I didn't know all the songs just yet.

I for one don't like going to shows where I have only heard one or two songs off a new album that hasn't come out yet. Tom was playing these songs for the fans. Excuse Tom for being a nice guy and playing stuff that you may never hear live again.

lennon and mccartney regularly played beatles songs live after they broke up (particularly the later ones when they were pretty much doing their own thing anyway), so there's some precedent here. and before anyone points this out, yes, one of the bands in question is a million times better than the other one, but i don't see how that makes it alright for people from one band to continue to perfom songs they wrote, and not the other.

I think it's awesome that Tom played "Down" and "There Is" at an AVA show. Tom's gone on record to saying the self-titled Blink record was a "masterpiece" in his eyes, so I don't see a problem with him playing a song or songs from that record. I don't really see a problem with him playing any other Blink songs either. I thought he was pretty much the mastermind behind Blink anyway. As for Boxcar songs, I feel the same way. I mean, if bands like Incubus play covers from other bands during live concerts(Madonna's "Like A Virgin," TLC's "No Scrubs," etc) and bands like Audioslave play Soundgarden songs at concerts...then I don't see a problem with this. If I went to an AVA show and Tom played these songs or any other song from Blink or Boxcar, I would be overjoyed.

i think ill be the first to say that the ava show last night did not live up to its expectations. it was a good show needless to say however i just dont think ava lived up to its hype. the crwod was being bitches when tom was actually trying to be serious and explain the songs and stuff. crowd went nuts when they said he was gonna play an old song. so im sure to please the crowd again he would do it.

Angels and Airwaves put on a decent show. granted, it WAS their VERY FIRST show.

Tom Delonge still can't sing on key for the most part, but it's a lot better than the Blink days.

The band performs well... Tom is better at playing the guitar. The songs run together a lot, but there are some tracks that DO stand out. It was nice to see Tom step out from behind the guitar and take the mic and be the front man dancing around... kinda cool. He's trying to find his own style, respectable. Reminded me a lot of Scott Russo's (Unwritten Law) stage presence.

Angels and Airwaves is by no means a "revolution" as Tom Delonge has stated, but it's good pop music.

I didn't like the effects on Tom's vocals... made him sound too robotic.

and I didn't like how much Tom talked like he was some motivational speaker. the overused phrase of the night: "ok... just imagine that you're..." blah blah blah

it'll do better than Boxcar Racer did.

THE T-SHIRTS WERE $20 A PIECE! THE HOODIE WAS $50! RIDICULOUS!

and the opening band... The Fuschia Arachnids were silly.

This CD is absolutely terrible, please do not bother buying it. If you are thinking about it, at least download it first and then decide. Seriously, there is nothing about that it that will change rock history or whatever the hype was. It's pretty pathetic.

velvet revolver is composed of basically everyone who was in guns n roses minus axle, and slash was the writer behind most of the songs, and all of the ones that they play live now. and i'm almost positive dave grohl never played nirvana songs because that wouldnt be right. again, im not trying to piss of anyone on here my opinion is just that if AVA is toms new band that he is so confident in and it's his "rebirth" or whatever he's been saying, he doesnt need to and shouldnt have to play songs of the band he left. im just a little put off by the whole thing, and im sure we wont be seeing mark and travis playing blink songs just out of shear respect for blink in itself.

also to whoever mentioned paul mccartney playing beatles songs, after the beatles when he played in wings, they played wings songs exclusively, nothing by the beatles. it wasnt until about 15-20 years ago that, performing as a solo artist, he began to play beatles songs, and only the ones that he wrote. he also didnt choose to leave the band as tom did with blink.
