NEW YORK -- David Stern gave another warning that the SuperSonics could eventually leave Seattle, saying Thursday that the city is, "not interested in having the NBA there."
So Seattle people, do you actually believe that BS statement?

LeftWideOpen
04/13/06, 08:56 PM
looks like they are at least there until 2010, so the city has time to get their shit together. It all comes down to politics people ....vote in the reps who will fund the stadiums. It'd be a shame to get rid of basketball in Seattle because it would become just a 2 sport town.

Then again, I'm 3000 miles away so Seattle may not care about basketball for all i know..anyone from the area care to shed light on the situation?

key arena isn't very good at all. they definitely need a new arena

Pittsburgh needs a NBA team so I can finally go to a game, and root for a team, even though they'd suck. Seriously I'd rather have basketball than hockey.

The problem is, we need a stadium and there might not be enough fans to attend the basketball games. I don't see why not though.

yeah, the team has a pretty shitty agreement with seattle..they dont get any revenue from anything sold at the arena..compared to other teams in the leauge, hell compared to other teams in any other sport, it is well below par..the seattle city council doesnt really seem to want to do anything to change it either..its quite a shame

it's rumored that the ford family, detroit lions owner(s), built ford field because of a similar agreement with the owners of the Pontiac Silverdome, in that they didn't get any revenue from anything sold in the stadium. however, since the silverdome is in Pontiac, they sold the city of detroit on building one downtown to help lower the ghetto-ness.

i would hate to see the sonics leave seattle, but St. Louis needs a basketball team.

mikeford

st louis could definitely support a basketball team but seriously there are a bunch of other franchises who should be moved before the sonics.

this is really just the media blowing something up that isn't a big deal at all. they'll be in seattle for sure until 2010, and just because the legislature isn't giving them the funding they need this year doesn't mean they won't in the following years. They've got a real long time to get it together, and if it leaves seattle, it might just move to Bellevue, which is literally 15 minutes away. I can pretty much guarantee the Sonics are not leaving Washington, so all the St. Louis people can wait for the next expansion.

Its so true...Seattle and Schultz are both holding out to see which one will put up a set amount of dollars first..

Itll get done eventually

Yeah, I was just like....seriously? Not to mention the college titles UW has won, but he did say professional. It's just hilarious that he comes in and says that in a sonics thread while the Sonics already have an NBA Championship.

It was 79, and you proved yourself to be an idiot by saying Seattle would never win a championship when we clearly have won several in professional sports, not to mention our teams have reached Finals multiple times (Sonics 96, Seahawks 06) and the Mariners hold the AL record for wins in a single season in 2001. so...how is it a joke of a city again? How is it more of a joke than say, San Diego? Weak, underesearched argument.

You still said it was a proven fact that no professional team could win a championship in Seattle. That statement was clearly false.

Honestly, there is NO basis for dissing Seattle sports that way.

Let's analyze Denver (only the big 3 sports, not counting hockey or any other sports)...hmmm Colorado (denver) Rockies .. huge joke 1 playoff birth ever.

Denver Nuggets..0 nba titles. First division title this year since 1988.

Denver Broncos 2 titles, only championship winning franchise...

Hmm.. why all the shit on Seattle when their pro franchises are just as respectable as this town's ?

Or how about Minnesota? 0 Nba titles, 0 super bowl championships, 3 world series... (91, 87 and 1924) ..

There are plenty of towns very similar to Seattle but no one acknowledges their mediocrity

What about Philadelphia? They havent won anything since 1983, yet no one mentions them...

Frustrating

Seattle teams have a reputation of being weak and finesse. Thats why everyone hates on Seattle. Plus the fact that they are all the way up in the corner and have terrible media coverage.

I didn't know finesse was an adjective, you dipshit. That doesn't even make sense. Go buy a dictionary.

The media coverage has absolutely nothing to do with a city's actual merit. Get out of the sports forum before I force you out.

Scott Weber
04/19/06, 02:16 PM
and by the way, the actual definition of the word finesse is "The skillful handling of a situation" so thanks for the compliment.

DevastatingDave
04/19/06, 02:23 PM
And the sports connotation for the word finesse is not "the skillfull handling of a situation" rather it's the exact definition of the Seattle Seahawks last year. A team relying on a homosexual at running back. Ok you can ban me from the forum's now :)

Ok let's see here. The Sonics, while having a losing record, are still one of the most exciting teams to watch. Does anyone have a sweeter shot than Ray Allen or Rashard Lewis? This team has too much of a tradition to leave. 1 win in 3 finals isn't bad, especially for this city. This has happened with all Seattle teams, and it just happens to be all talk, save for the early baseball and hockey teams we had. We have a very proud fan base up here, and while basketball is my least favorite of all professional sports, I would still fight this. Look out for them next year though. One big free agent aquisition and they'll be back. It's incredibly frustrating when everyone seems to constantly hate on your city when our luck is terrible, bad calls are plentiful, and heartbreaks are constant, in all sports, professional and collegiate. But I wouldn't live in any other city.
