View Full Version : Roommate Dilemma

I'm going into my third year at college and living off campus for the first time. And I just found out that my one roommate is planning on bringing a gun to the apartment, or her boyfriend is always going to be carrying one around, or both... I don't really know I didn't get the full story yet. My other roommate and I are one hundred percent against this, because really you think if someone comes into our apartment two girls and a gay guy are gonna be able to get a gun out and shoot someone?! And I really don't like the idea of it being there when we are all drunk. Me and the guy are gonna talk to the girl who is bringing it, so what do you think we should say/do you think we have reason to be concerned/pissed?

What makes me more mad is the girl who is bringing the gun has yet to even tell me, and i've already told her that I feel like she doesn't tell me anything that has to do with the apartment and I feel out of the loop.

Here is my best advice, passed down from my uncle, about dealing with bad college roomates :OUT WEIRD HER.
Seriously, bring like, shopping carts in the living room filled with trash, and dance around them while blasting moby and sting AT THE SAME TIME.

Ok- so get a stuffed animal of a cat, fill it with fake blood, and when that bitch walks into the apartment, take a huge knife, cut the stuffed animals throat, and pretend to drink its blood- then scream about how the wind goddess is INSIDE your head.

Fuck his gun. Is he a "free stater"? I jacked some kid in the teeth this past winter for bringing a gun into my friends party in an effort to, "exercise his rights".

I have no idea he's a theater major at one of the colleges near Pitt? He probably thinks he'll be all hard carrying a gun around. Haha and for real bringing a gun to a party is so incredibly stupid.

Yeah, some things aren't worth arguing over, but this is not one of them. Having a gun in the house is a pretty serious issue, and one it is totally ok to be uncomfortable with. Check and see maybe if your landlord has a rule about guns. Or get your other roomies together to say you just aren't comfortable. If she doesn't agree, kick her out or something.

That's a good idea to check the lease. I'm not sure we'd be able to kick her out I've never really heard of people doing that before the lease was up?

yeah i'd go with the ultimatum idea. tell her to get rid of the gun or to find another place to live. and if you're other roommate is by your side on this its even better. aside from that i hope it all works out for ya, good luck!

It is a give and take relationship. I just moved in my college dorm and already me and my roommate had a fight, about which carpet we should put down, my yankee's or his mets. We solved it by driving 4 hours to Canada and getting buffalo for dinner.

He's going to carry a gun around on a college campus? I go to Pitt and I'm pretty sure that's like a huge no-no. Unless he's living in like mckees rocks or something I'm pretty sure the neighborhoods around Pittsburgh's schools are pretty safe.

Yeah I don't agree with guns for protection. Odds are most people are not going to have any idea how to use them, and I just don't like the idea.

Yeah, I don't quite know the specifics, the boyfriend doesn't go to pitt he goes to point park.. unless he just plans on carrying it around when he's not going to classes?

Try to snatch the gun away from her or him when their in arms length and point it at them just to get them scared. Then put it down and say "How do you think i feel?". That will show them. If they try to put up an argument and say something along the lines of "but you know me, I would never do something like that" than you say "Well you know me too, Did you expect me to snatch the gun and point it at you guys?".
If all else fails, fuck her boyfriend, Then she'll really want to leave since you stole her man.

however i would never go near him, he's too nasty/girly/annoying
because really you think if someone comes into our apartment two girls and a gay guy are gonna be able to get a gun out and shoot someone?
i didn't know being homosexual made you less adept at wielding arms.

Or being a girl, for that matter. Maybe it's because I live in a hick-town, but pretty much every girl I know (excluding myself) is pretty good with a gun.

Get the gun out of there. If you really want to defend yourself against intruders, all you need is a baseball bat and wasp killer.

Jeez, some people just have no concept of what's appropriate when you're living with other people.
One of my roommates junior year starting dating this guy, and within the first week of the semester he'd moved into our apartment. Dude was an illegal Mexican immigrant, didn't speak a word of English, was around all the time when she wasn't, and would steal her car to get drunk when she was sleeping. Like seriously, how do you think this is a good idea?

as long as she keeps a trigger lock on it and does not keep the ammunition near it
it should be fine
No one drunk can open those damn locks
they are hard enough to open sober
i think you have a very good reason to be concerned.
