View Full Version : Pleasantly surprising enjoyable movies
What movie caught you off guard and you ended up enjoying a lot more than you thought you would. You happen to watch it somehow but you really weren't even going to see it, but were glad you did because it was much better than first anticipated.
For me i'd have to say:
Martian Child
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415965/
Danny the Dog AKA Unleashed
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0342258/
I'm sure there is more as this has happened before but I just can't remember right now. Those are two off the top of my head that I can think of. Any other underrated movies out there that are worth checking out that have been overlooked...

Troll 2... nothing could have prepared me. It moved me-- touched me in ways a movie shouldn't, and left me in the alley, feeling dirty, abused, but strangely satisfied, maybe even guiltily pleased.

Coraline. I was seeing it because my friends wanted to see it but it ended up being a lot better than I expected.

Seems to be darker than the typical animation movie not exactly just for kids that's for sure I might look into it. Thanks.
I did really enjoy The Incredibles which I could actualy add to the ones that pleasantly surprised me. It was really good. I def need to check out more pixar films they tend to be overlooked by me anyways just for being animated which isn't a good enough reason especially now that they have gotten so good.

"Fired Up" Didn't know what else to rent from the redbox but it actually became one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. haha man, I love that movie.

It's funny that you mention Fired Up it doesn't surprise me that you enjoyed it. I've heard that for what it's worth, it's actually not bad supposed to be a pretty funny movie.
It makes me think of White Chicks...what a dumb movie but it's still pretty enjoyable to watch it def has some funny moments in it. Again for what it's worth I thought it was pretty good.
One that I forgot to mention which I can't believe I failed to remember is Grandma's Boy that one was A LOT better than I thought it would be.
oh also Mean Girls is not bad even though I probably wouldn't see it again it was better than expected.

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra was actually surprisingly good, seeing as blockbuster summer movies are normally shit these days. Quite the change of pace. Maybe it's only because I grew up on the show and the action figures.

"Started for 10" with James McAvoy. I watched it on HBO late one night, didn't seem like the type of movie I would like but I really knew nothing about it. Watched it because McAvoy was in it and ended up really liking it alot.

Cool. Have you seen Wanted? That one starts off really strong IMO slows down in the middle and picks up a little at the end, overall it was pretty good around what I expected as I had heard that it was a decent action flick. I don't know much about James McAvoy but i'd say it's worth checking out if you're a fan of him.

Yeah I've seen it. I thought it was pretty good for that kind of movie.
Equilibrium and Harsh Times two great Christian Bale movies which now everytime he's involved in something I almost def see it. Some of his other greats besides the obvious ones are The Machinist and also Rescue Dawn.

Speed Racer.... really had ZERO interest in this, but caught it on HBO one day. Not a great movie by any means, but I think it got a bad rap. People expect too much out of these cartoon to movie adaptions.

I've actually heard that was really good and deeper than what most people caught. I never watched the cartoon as a kid, but my friend was just telling me the other day how this movie was like all one big metaphor for some shit (was it oil wars? something like that).

Just Friends is really funny and has some great chemistry between pretty much all the actors involved, despite it being a silly formulaic romcom.

I went to see this movie with such low expectations and came out smiling and thinking that was the best piece of entertainment for a long while.

completely agree with this, my brothers and I rented it because we had heard so many bad things about it and ended up buying it the next day
The Girl Next Door, Crank, Shoot Em Up.
Hahaha oh my goodness, I loved Shoot Em Up. That movie was awesome.

This. Except I would see it again.
Also, The Proposal. I went into it (with my fiancee (girlfriend at the time)) thinking it'd be an incredibly cheesy chick flick. It was actually pretty funny.

Smokin' Aces looked pretty corny, but the action scenes we're really entertaining and overall, an entertaining movie.

Into The Wild.
I watched it with a friend was like, OH JOY. Thought it was going to suck but turned out to be pretty awesome. And the fact that Eddie Vedder did the soundtrack was awesome.

Hitch and The Devil Wears Prada. I feel like I shouldn't be able to respect myself for liking those, particularly the latter, but fuck it, I had a good time.
Also The Rocker. By the numbers, but that movie just hits me perfectly for some reason.
And I didn't want to see We Own The Night at all when I watched the previews, but jesusfuckingchrist was that movie intense. I was pretty much sweating during the scene where Joaquin wore the wire into the drug house.
The Devil Wears Prada.
I second that and the person that mentionned Just Friends.

two kind of sappy ones
Garden State
I Heart Huckabees
and this george clooney one called "Solaris"
i also kinda think that The Ring was a sweet modern horror/mystery film
I sort of have a penchant for liking movies no one else likes & vice versa.

I happened to buy my now favorite movie on a whim because Best Buy was doing a 2 for $15 sale. I decided to get Grandma's Boy, and I saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and thought "wow, this has some legit actors in it, I'll check it out."
Turned out to be really enjoyable and I laughed a lot.

That movie could of been a little better if they got rid of that fat awkward kid. He just brought the movie down so much for me.
