Tool (www.toolband.com)'s new single "Vicarious" hits radio on Monday, but has just found it's way onto the internet. (http://www.echoingthesound.org/phpbbx/viewtopic.php?t=16947) It's great and, as always, totally worth the wait. 10,000 Days hits stores May 2nd and is going to blow away everything else coming out that day (in sales and otherwise).

I'm just glad the first reply wasn't some emo kid telling me the new Thursday album is going to be the greatest piece of music ever composed and that I can take my love for Tool and blow them.

It's wonderful to hear the return of one of one of the greatest bands of the 90's (I know lateralus came out in 2001)...but either way, such an awesome song....prog-metal at it's best.....should be, as expected, an amazing CD.

for once i am actually glad that a band released the first track on the album as the first single. i doubt this will leak more than a few days before street date and i am going to wait and buy it to listen. i'd much rather hear the song i know right at the beginning than in the middle of a bunch of songs i am hearing for the first time.

Tool never edits their singles for radio. They're so popular that most stations play the full song due to public demand, sometimes (usually after a few months) stations make their own god awful edits. "Schism" is 6:27 and "Lateralus" is 9:24 and both received HEAVY airplay in unedited form. "Parabola" got played quite a bit and it's about 6:05. The "Schism" video is even longer than the song and it was played constantly on MTV and MTV2 without edits.

if thursday fans are as terrible as you say then the only thing worse are tool fans. this song is generic tool, it could have very easily fit anywhere on lateralus and you all know it. tool is not as great as everyone thinks, and honestly not like im the biggest fan of thursday or anything, but thursday has me a lot more excited from that sampler than tool does from this song.

good, I'll definetly be getting into this album. Couldn't really get into Laterallus or older Tool as a whole (just like a few songs), though i really liked Aenima and both APC albums.
Whenever a Tool or Nine Inch Nails album comes out, I feel myself aging.

I respect the hell out of Tool, but just cannot get into them. I'm into epic and long music (See: Sigur Ros), but there's just something about them that keeps me from liking them instead of just appreciating them. Maynard has a killer voice though...
...And Thursday will be awesome. :)

Why do people think of tool as if they somehow transcend the concept of a band. They release a cd every five years. They only have two landmark cd's (which I think are pretty amazing for he record), but saying they are real music and a band like thursday isn't is ridiculous. Thursday lives for their music and i dont see how it isnt real. This tool song is boring and sounds like a lateralus outtake. tool fans are such a cult its ridiculous. Get over them

for the record, i wasn't insulting thursday, i am a huge thursday fan and will be buying their new album may 2nd, as long as i like it when i download it. the first single from it is, without a doubt, the worst thursday song i've ever heard and if the record is like that, i will not be buying it.

worst thursday song? really? i'm not trying to be insulting or anything, but I love that song, the lyrics are quite inspirational and I just think it flat out rocks.
Oh, and Tool is fucking awesome. I still remember the day Lateralus came out and I went to buy it, got home, threw it on and just fell in love with Tool all over again. I kinda like that they only release albums every 3-5 years or whatever, it's fine by me because they're always well crafted masterpieces.

I'm not a huge thursday fan or anything but I don't dislike them. When I heard the new single, I was just confused. It sounds nothing like them, not even an evolution of a band or anything It was even wierder when I heard that other new song that sounds just like their old stuff.
And yes, most tool fans are pretty dumb, which is why I stayed away from them for years. I agree their definetly not the greatest band of all time, but I really appreciate their place in music culture, even if it means a bunch of fat "goth" kids wearing tool shirts all over the place.

As opposed to skinny punk kids wearing Ramones t-shirts?
At least Tool fans have different hair cuts.
