I noticed that there are alot of GOOD directors named David. Out of these, who's your favorite?

I would have said David Cross, but now I have to go with David Fincher.
It was between lynch and fincher, but lynch has done a hell of a lot more.

Fincher hands down.
He generally has some of the best cinematography in film today.

Fincher.
Se7en and Fight Club are both cinematic materpieces.Haha I wouldnt throw around the term "cinematic masterpiece" unless talking about films such as The Godfather or Citizen Kane. It just makes you look very uninformed. I assume that anyone voting for Fincher has never seen a Lynch film. Plus Fincher isn't even a writer. No fucking contest.

A film doesn't have to be old to be considered a masterpiece.
Se7en was one of the top films of its decade along with Pulp Fiction, Fargo, and others.
And, it's partially opinion.

And, it's partially opinion.A phrase like cinematic masterpiece should be saved for the greatest films ever made. It doesn't matter when they were made. Shawshank, Schindler's List, The Silence Of The Lambs and yes, Pulp Fiction are examples of 90's masterpieces. Fargo and Seven are great films, but not masterpieces by any respectable standards. I'm just dissappointed in the fact that a guy that has only directed two good films is killing David Lynch, who has written AND directed over 5 great films, and a great TV series. Lynch has also earned 3 best director nods.
I would even put Cronenberg above Fincher. And way above at that.

reserving the term "cinematic masterpiece" for citizen kane is one of the biggest cliches in film. and as for the godfather, that's about as safe as calling the beatles a great rock band. i don't pretend to be an expert on the other 2 davids, i've seen history of violence and 0 david lynch films (though based on what i've heard/read i doubt i'd like them), but se7en is absolutely one of my favorite films ever.

I loved that show, when I was a kid I would watch it with my parents every week.
Did you ever see Push, NV? it was on a few years ago and was a Twin Peaks rip off. Too bad it never caught on and died after a few episodes.

When people make statments like reserve the term cinematic masterpiece for films such as The Godfather or Citizen Kane, it makes it seem like they are uniformed and theyve just watched a countdown of the top movies and thats what they were told. Im not saying that this is true for you, and judging by the other posts that youve made it isnt. It just the impression i get when i hear statements like that.

Kagemusha is a 'cinematic masterpiece' that you won't find on many top whatever lists, and is my answer to your little credibility test. I wasn't trying to prove anything with my first post other than that the greatest films ever made are the only ones that should be held in such high regard as to be called masterpieces. There's nothing 'cliche' about that.
Did you even read my second post?
