Just got back from the Taking Back Sunday (http://www.takingbacksunday.com) show in Indianapolis. My show review below.
Having not played in Indy since July 2004, Taking Back Sunday did not disappoint. Full of energy and bravado, TBS gave the sold out crowd an amazing show. With a good mix of TAYF and WYWTB songs, as well as 4 new ones, TBS never took a break and just kept the hits coming, and the crowd was crazy. Adam Lazzara is one of the best frontmen in the game, with his mic skills and powerful stage presence overtaking the show. Fred, Eddie, and Matt played very well and kept the energy level high and Mark was a beast on the drums. The highlight of the show was when TBS came out for an encore and played "You Know How I Do," which was amazing, I've never seen them play that song live, post-Nolan era. Overall, I always have a great time at a Taking Back Sunday show, as they are my favorite live band, I'm never disappointed when I see them. Also, one more thing, a message to crowdsurfers: you deserve every bruise, bump, cut, and ass grab and every shoe lost because you truly ruin the show. I hate getting kicked in the head, and yes, that was me who ripped off your shoe and threw to the other side of the venue. Stop it. So, other than the annoying crowdsurfers, this show was great and worth seeing, so get your tickets now. Cause mics are for swinging, not singing.

It was on the set for the first couple of shows I've seen posted plus yours. I so dig You Know How I Do, so this excites me. I heard it's a twist on the normal version, but not sure how. Word? I agree about crowdsurfers. They nearly ruined the Say Anything show I went to and there was this group that believed they were the main act and that all eyes should be on them. They launched themselves feetfirst onto people's heads and hung onto pipes from the roof of the venue. I'm sure a lot of people were pretty hurt. Sorry to break it to them, but they're not part of the show. Keep your feet on the ground.

Really, that's cool, cause I've never seen them play it since Nolan left. :shrugs:

And they slightly changed how they play "You Know How I Do." The first verse is quiet, slow, and almost sounds acoustic, but then they kick into full gear at the first chorus and then it sounds the same as usual.

Yeah, they opened with it when I saw them at Warped in 04.
However, when I saw them last year with Jimmy Eat World they did NOT play it, as well as Timberwolves at New Jersey, my two favorite TBS songs. I was really disappointed. So I've never heard the 'new spin' to You KNow Now I do...Oh well.

glad to hear the band is going strong, i'm really excited for the new album. i have to disagree with you on the crowdsurfing; i agree that a lot of people are assholes when they do it (escpecially guys who take runnign starts from the pit and throw themselves on top of people), but as a music fan who weighs under 170 lbs., i like crowdsurfing and also know the fun, respectful and safe way to do it. there's an etiquette to crowdsurfing, and sure,a lot of people act like they're part fo the show, but i speak for the group that knows how to do it without ruining the bands for everyone else. don't take my shoes, i have very soft, unprotected undersides to my feet!

i agree, TBS is AMAZING LIVE, but.. Adam still hasnt progressed as a better singer live. So many parts during the show, he pulls the mic away from him, while FRED hits all his notes and sounds 100x better. But i still love Adams stages presence. TBS still is bomb diggity. im just a negative nancy.

i drove almost 3 hours each way from Columbus, it's nearly 5 a.m., and i remember seeing that goddamn shoe fly all the way across the place in the middle of the show. it was honestly probably the best sounding TBS show i have ever been to, dating back to early 2002 when i saw them in a little ass bar. my only real complain is that This Photograph Is Proof was a terrible way to end the regular set. but i completely hate that song, so i'm a little biased. one last thing. Drew, i've only seen them NOT play You Know How I Do at one show since John and Shaun left, so you've been getting the shit end of the stick for a while, my friend.

you should've been at one of the shows they played with The Starting Line and The Early November when Adam's hip was too hurt for him to stand and they were playing acoustic. maybe the best TBS set i've seen considering they played Your Own Disaster AND Ballad Of Sal.

Mmm, since this was slightly pre-album and a lot of big fans were buying tickets, it would have been sweet if some of the lesser played songs were on there too- Your Own Disaster, Slowdance, and maybe even slipping in a reworking of Head Club (since they evidently don't like the released version of it) would have rocked. Still nice set. I'm excited.

dude why did they close with "This Photograph Is Proof".......that it the worst song they have ever recorded. Such a POS song. Its a total downer too, last time I saw them live and they played it, its like the energy of the entire building was sucked out. terrible song.

I don't think that they played it on their headlining tour in 2004 because they didn't play it when I saw them. But I wasnt at every show so I don't know that for sure. I thought that it was odd that they didn't play it though.

Hey Drew,
Ball State buddy, JC here - just want to throw something out there, you can send it right back if you'd like...
My experience at the "TBS Show"
As I approached the Murat in Indianapolis, I saw Fred run across the street (ooooo, Exciting! It's the little things that do it for me). I stood in line and counted all the Taking Back Sunday shirts that came to the show and I continued to count them into the theatre despite the ones who were putting them on as they purchased them at the merch table. (You know, just so I can have my own little private joke based off the absolutely brilliant criticism derived from the movie PCU starring Jeremy Piven and David Spade) I began noticing the totally underestimated fan base of Suicide City (Could I actually expect great things from them? Well, the bassist is hot, so yea I could.). I get into the Egyptian Room at the Murat and, oh boy, I'm so excited they have alcohol. Sadly, they were so expensive - one was enough. Then... the show begins!
I can't believe you didn't mention these guys in your post. Seriously, like no one would care, pish! Suicide City tore up, man. I thought that was the most energetic of all three sets. Energetic from the band, the crowd was definitely more hyped to TBS. Much love to Taking Back Sunday, but Suicide City kicked it off superbly. Sad day that they got yelled at for cursing at the crowd. But the screams of "I want to eat your brains", the jumping off the amps, and the beautiful and ridiculously tough bassist got me psyched. (I loved it when she verbally ripped an inconsiderate audience member a new asshole) They are the AFI replacements if AFI gets too soft in their old age. Had to get my picture taken with the bassist. Had to get a great picture of the singer - he was charisma-galore but a little too creepy-flirty with the fourteen-year-olds.
I met some girls who apparently knew the fellas of Tokyo Rose. I believe they were roadies who didn't know they were roadies. The absolute best part of a band has to be that you can literally have girlfriends all over. Well, they're story was that a majority of the songs on the new Tokyo Rose album were actually written about a girl they knew in their high school days. Whether or not that's true, I have no idea. I believe it though, some girls can be real sluts when they find out a guy is in a band. "Goodbye Almond Eyes", one of my favorites, was one such song written about this girl, I assume, obviously. Tokyo Rose put on an amazing set as well, in my opinion, though it was the least energetic. And I have also come to the conclusion that Asian is in. And the Asian Fall Out Boy is Tokyo Rose. Asian rockers are totally under-rated from Home Grown and Red Panda to Jupiter Sunrise to Tokyo Rose to those wonderfully harmonious girls of Kill Bill fame and Cingular commercials. (NOTE: All the members of those bands except the latter are not totally of Asian descent, and I know its probably not PC to refer to them as such but there it is.) I got crushed with my friend in the Tokyo Rose Leaning Pit, it was fun - we lost a shoe, cleared the crowd to find it, found it, then cheered when we did, and later cheered again amidst our little space for "Teamwork" in the pit. We didn't last the entire set though. There's only so much sweat and crushing you can take (P.S. when you're as old as I am) unless you really like pain which I expect a lot of "true" punks and emo kids do. Bottom line, TOKYO ROSE = RADICAL FUN. (oh yea, I went there, I said "radical") Oh yea, let's not forget the special guest appearance by Fred of Taking Back Sunday in the Tokyo Rose set.
And lastly, you said it about Taking Back Sunday, great show. Excellent set list though those who go to multiple shows are going to see the same stuff over and over again. (Repition has been proudly associated with TBS for ages now) I realized how similar it was when I had previously seen the "What's It Feel Like to Be A Ghost" video on MySpace. Fred said "Are you having a good time tonight?" exactly like he did. I think he's got something there though - a little trademark cliche line to get the crowd pumped. He screams it very distinctly. Very "I'm Fred" style. Loved the encore, loved everything about it - I think I'll make a compilation disc based on the set list.

I was just wondering how long the opening bands' sets were for this show? The doors here in Chicago open at 5 so I'm assuming that Suicide City will start around 5:30, Tokyo Rose around 6:30 and TBS at 7:30 (or maybe closer to 8?) is that about the right timeframe for anybody who's been so far?
Edit: I just saw on the HOB website that the show actually starts at 6, but still does anyone know how long the openers sets are, I've got to get there as late as possible cuz my friend who's coming with me has his family Easter celebrations and such.

Suicide City and Tokyo Rose probably played half hour to 45 minute sets - the entire show probably actually did start closer to 7 - TBS started in around 8:45 or 9 or so, including encore the whole thing was done after about three hours.

I hated this venue(Egyptian Room) so damn much and the first 2 bands to play...Suicide City and Tokyo Rose...didn't grab me at all which is a bummer since their is alot of hype around Tokyo Rose. So, after being somewhat pissed the whole night, TBS turned my frown upside down and made the show all the better.
