I just got through Unfortunately We're Not Robots, and was thinking how good both the intro and outro were. What albums do you guys think begin and end with a bang?

None of those albums compare opening and closing wise with...
Circle Takes the Square - As the Roots Undo
Intro - A Crater to Cough In
The whistling tune in Intro shows back up in A Crater to Cough In played by the guitars and then things just explode at the end. Awesome stuff.

damn, you're right. whenever i put "Same Shade As Concrete" on a cd, i make sure to put "Intro" right before it no matter what.

Definitely Pink Floyd's Meddle album...
Opening with One of these Days with the double tracking bases and haunting distorted vocals by Nick Mason...and then ending with one of the most epic songs in history, Echoes...23 minutes of pure musical genius.

Muse - Absolution
You have that nice little 20 second Intro of soldier's marching with the German chant being said faintly in the background. Then straight into more stomping and a awesome piano bit. Then it ends with a beautifully played piano which leads to a very climatic finish.

Unless in the mood, you can pretty much just go back and forth between those two songs for hours, haha.

Forget What You Know sticks out to me ... and any of Metallica's early material, especially ...And Justice For All which opens with "Blackened" and closes with "Dyer's Eve". Awesome and epic.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Opening with: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
-A great instrumental intro. I love Billy's piano playing, and it's just the right mood for the album.
Closing with: Farewell and Goodnight
-One of my favorite TSP songs...a particularly great closer. Very soft and easy going, perfect to fall asleep to (ironically, and positivly).

In the Flesh? is probably one of the best openers of all time...but, while Outside the Wall is great, it's not amazing.

relient k's mmhmm has a sick opener and closer.
1. "the one i'm waiting for" - ultra fun, fast paced, raspy-ish vocals, written in a sort of ADD fashion, just basically pop-punk the way it is supposed to be done.
2. "when i go down" - like 5 key changes throughout. goes from an acoustic opening to adding some electric guitars which blend and empower the mood a lot in the second verse/second chorus. and then they totally turn the tables on you and have this long bridge with a lot of backing vocals and acoustic pinch harmonics and xylophone, and emotional singing, and the atmosphere is just so great and mellow/soft. and then they kick electric guitars back in, and then have just piano/vocals, and then they form one of the most SEAMLESS transitions back into the original theme of the song, and then they end the song on a totally different key than they even used in the rest of the song. like wtf how do you do so much in one song haha. definitely a really sick closer.
