Well, i think it's obvious that this band really hasn't been doing much lately but, I guess they never really did anyway. They had a few songs that put them on my favorite band list and then I kind of tossed my mix tape into my drawer. But, last night I pulled it out and half-heartedly listened while thinking, what happend to these dudes. I want to hear an amazing comeback show. Have they had any recent shows or recordings that slipped by me or is this band dead?

Well, they stay busy actually. MxPx is always doing something. They released Secret Weapon just a year ago, "Ultimate Collection" a bit before that, On the Cover part two came out earlier this year and over the summer they did a career-spanning anniversary show (I think it was their 17th) online where they let fans vote for the set list. They also released a new DVD back in March. They aren't a "cool" band by any means and they aren't exceedingly well known, but they are always creating activity and giving their fans more to chew on.
As far as whether that makes them "relevant" or not, I just don't know how many people outside of their hardcore fan base are paying attention.

i think if they faded out and broke up, the world wouldn't care for more than a day. i wouldnt say they are relevant, but they are a fun live band and i enjoy some of their albums.

agree with G apostrophe Ra. it seems to me like MxPx has been making the same songs for years, but that's not me basing it off of listening to every single album, just some random songs from time to time. not my type of music, but they are still around.

I love mxpx very much but, unfortunately, I don't think they are very relevant in the music world anymore.

this is a good point. Here's the thing, they're not relevant to the "scene" anymore because they're still playing the music they did in the late 90's. They haven't adapted to what's popular and they're not this new fresh band that people can hype on. It sucks to me that they aren't more popular because they deserve it, but it's also good in it's own way. They still make great music, it's just not what everyone else is doing.

completely agree. i think this is one of the thousands of examples that a lot of the music industry is chance. mxpx is one of them, along with many more innovative bands that will never really be noticed by the general public, while bands like hit the lights and all time low get big, even though they all sound the same.

mxpx is an interesting band to discuss actually in terms of relevant or not. They were a product of the skate warped tour punk of the mid 90s to early 00s...and they were always KINDA BIG during that entire stretch into today. MXPX never really reached the status of other bands from this era like NOFX, Rancid, RBF, Pennywise, Bouncing Souls etc. But they were always there..and they always drew a pretty big crowd and pretty big reception when it came to their albums. They were always the poppiest out of these bands, but their best material came out before bands like NFG and drive-thru came along so they never really got to tag along for long with the mests of the world. And now n' days with skate punk being totally dead, they just have no where to go in today's scene.
But most people know who MXPX is (most people 19 and older) and they've been around recently, like it's not as if htey've been on a big hiatus or something. Plus their albums are always just mediocre to me...it's been a while since a new mxpx all-time great came out.

they are much better than the 90% of the "scene" bands of today ..

I really, really like Before Everything & After. I think that album is sorely underrated. But for whatever reason, I cannot get into their last couple albums. I didn't even buy On the Cover 2
